I’m the assistant manager of production at Emitec Technologies Gmb. We develop and manufacture innovative metal substrates and emission control solutions for automotive and non-automotive industries. We serve major global manufacturers with engineering, testing, and production services.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Meghware Solutions LLP?

We manufacture auto components with engraved ID markings on metallic cylinders. The issue was double-stamping — components going through the marking process twice — resulting in overlapping or duplicated engravings. The defect is visually subtle on a metallic reflective surface, and even our trained QC operators were missing them under normal inspection conditions.
Our specific objectives were to detect what an eye was missing. We needed a machine vision system sensitive enough to identify double-stamped engravings on reflective metallic surfaces under production lighting conditions, consistently and at line speed. Our goal was to ensure no such part reached the customer.
Additionally, the inspection had to happen inline, without creating a bottleneck in an already fast-paced production environment. Defect visibility varied with lighting, shift, fatigue, and operator experience. We needed a system that performed the same at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

What were the goals and objectives of this project?

We hired Meghware Solutions LLP to design and develop an automated vision-based quality inspection system for detecting double embossing defects on our production line.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Meghware Solutions LLP provided the following services: 

• Core Defect Detection Algorithm — The image processing pipeline that identifies double-stamped engravings on metallic cylinders was built entirely by their team. This was the hardest part of the problem — handling reflective surfaces, variable lighting, and subtle mark overlaps required custom logic, not an off-the-shelf model 
• Inspection Decision Engine — The pass/fail logic, threshold configuration, and sensitivity tuning were developed and calibrated specifically for our component geometry and defect characteristics 
• Operator Dashboard — The UI used by our floor team to monitor inspection results, view flagged images, and pull shift reports was custom-built for our workflow 
• Line Integration Module — The interface between the vision system and our production line controls — triggering the rejection mechanism on defect detection — was written specifically for our setup
