In order to onboard an important customer, our company needed to launch a range of new features. Our in-house engineering team couldn't have finished everything on the customer's desired timeline. We used Mallow to create an online portal where our clients could create works requests, which went through an automation process to offer the work to appropriately qualified freelancers. The same portal could be used by the freelancers to claim the work, and to invoice us for it after completion. The same portal contains all of the admin functionality required for clients and freelancers to manage their accounts and their relationship with us.

We had detailed user stories which formed a comprehensive scope of work and we were able to closely monitor delivery progress against estimates using these. We also had a full suite of metrics to monitor user adoption and business impact as parts of the development went into our live environment.

Our main product is the Trygg platform, which digitises security and logistics structures within client organisations. Trygg is a best-in-class, multi-function system that allows firms to provide the maximum level of remote oversight and support without compromising the privacy of their personnel.

Mallow tech have been our tech team sice day one and their initial key deliverables were to build out an integrated system comprising web, iOS and Android elements to our specifications and functionality requirements. Instead of taking a year to meet product market fit - it has literally taken less than three months to deploy requested features. Mallow has been tremendously flexible as we reprioritize development as we hear from customers and prospects.

Because of the time difference, we have heavily relied on Slack for timely messaging and coordination. (though we have had a handful of calls) Also, Mallow has started later in their day to overlap a few hours with our staff to full coordination on ongoing stories or help with deployments to Production. This has been invaluable!

When we first engaged with Mallow in January 2021, they did not know Tailwind CSS, but over the course of a few weeks, they had become experts in the framework, and now I believe it is their CSS framework of choice. It is amazing how they adopted and became fluent so quickly!

None. I am 100% pleased with Mallow. They have become a true business partner that I can rely on to perform without worry and deliver without hesitation.

I was looking for a software company that can create iOS and Android applications and that has a good background on how to build a good backend in the cloud. Mallow has the expertise and the know-how. We established the first steps together and it has been successful since then.

They developed the backend on Ruby on Rails. They create applications on iOS and Android. They made the iOS portion on Swift and Objective-C and Android on Java. They have been working on connecting with many different platforms. They have a special PHP team that developed PHP products or output. They’ve been connecting with a lot of platforms using many APIs. They have created their own APIs on how to connect different clients and different applications to the backend.

How did you come to work with Mallow Technologies?

At first, I saw them on Upwork. We’ve talked together on Upwork. It was an hourly based contract where we asked about a specific request and they provided after confirming a certain time of hours. Eventually, we shifted from our previous practice to a dedicated hours orientation where we have dedicated resources all month long. Controllex is not only a product. It’s more of a platform where we plan to connect many hardware types to the platform for both home automation and security. We asked them to have dedicated recourses all month long.

How much have you invested with Mallow Technologies?

We have invested $60,000 to $100,000. Up to now, we’ve reached $60,000 and I’m planning a bit more development by the end of 2017.

What is the status of this engagement?

I think it was in October 2015 that I delivered a few small tasks to them.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

I don’t have numbers or any type of indicator that shows how good or bad the product is. In general, they’ve been matching the standard of Apple and Google in terms of client development. In terms of backend devices, they’re working well so far. I think they have a good understanding of the industry and a good amount of depth in terms of understanding the projects that they’re developing. They have a good background and their teams are experienced. I’m only a startup. I’m not the one to evaluate whether their practice is good or not.

They’re working to match iOS and Android standards. We’ve been working together to develop on many platforms on iOS, not only the iPhone but the Apple Watch and the Apple TV. We plan to launch on Apple Car as well. Same thing with Android. Our current existence is on nearly all the platforms and we plan to expand to all the platforms at the same time.

How did Mallow Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been very good. Any project will definitely have turbulence. In general, they’ve been delivering good effort in developing my projects. However, we did have a few challenges, but in general, they’re always taking initiative towards solving an issue.

What did you find most impressive about Mallow Technologies?

The way I identify if the company’s service is good or bad is by the output. They’ve been delivering a good output. I had a few experiences where freelancers or companies ditched the project in the middle of it. When they start developing and we’re half way through, they stop working or stop delivering on time.

Mallow Tech has been focused. I like that about them. They are increasing the amount of resources and they’re fulfilling any gap very fast. I think they’re better than other freelancers on the internet like on Freelancer.com or Upwork, or any platform where service providers are providing services. They’ve been really good. I’ve been rating them with complete satisfaction of their work.

The only thing that I find challenging with Mallow Tech is that their pricing is very high compared to the market. Overall, they’re trustworthy.

We are a startup based in Amsterdam, developing a platform for proximity mobile engagement. It's a Software as a Service cloud platform hosted on Amazon Web Services. What was the scope of their involvement?

Mallow Technologies provided initial consultation regarding what platform would be best suited for our company and our use cases. We also considered scalability and client management. Ruby on Rails was chosen as the best technology for our software, given that it provides faster development times and is easier to support.

I created a list of action points and communicated to Mallow Technologies the features that we wanted them to build. I approved designs, and we proceeded with development. We initially used DigitalOcean, but have moved to Amazon Web Services for hosting our backend.

We have worked with a designer, a business analyst, and 2 developers from Mallow Technologies.

How did you come to work with Mallow Technologies?

I searched for developers on Upwork and spoke to a few of them. My specs weren't completely clear-cut and nailed down, so I had a few questions on how I should approach the work. Most developers didn't take a lot of time to review the requirements the particular project, but Mallow Technologies had an honest approach and gave me straight answers. I felt that Mallow Technologies was more serious in responding to my request and that they would be capable of doing the work. Mallow Technologies' CTO [Chief Technology Officer] was very involved in the initial process of defining the project, and they provided the best value for the money.

The total cost of our project with Mallow Technologies was between $10,000 and $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Mallow Technologies in 2015, and the project had a 15-month run. There was a period of customer testing in which Mallow Technologies wasn't involved, but we came back to them when we needed to develop new features.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Mallow Technologies is very good in terms of engineering expertise, especially backend development. They have a very experienced team, able to follow some of the most complex requirements from our side.

How did Mallow Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Mallow Technologies was very good at communication and responded promptly. One of the most important things to consider about freelancers is that they tend to overpromise and under-deliver. In Mallow Technologies' case, we were told upfront about any additional time required to develop a feature.

We have used Basecamp for project maintenance and management. Mallow Technologies followed-up on all milestones and comments we entered. The whole team on Mallow Technologies' end, including the project manager, collaborated with us on the platform. They were also available on Skype.

What did you find most impressive about Mallow Technologies?

Other companies could have delivered the same type of work as Mallow Technologies, but they stood out in terms of honesty. Development and testing hours were clearly logged, and we were billed according to a budget set for each phase, which was almost always respected. Mallow Technologies told me in advance whenever there would be a need for extra hours for a particular task. Humility and honesty are crucial in choosing a freelancer, and were present in Mallow Technologies' team, from their CTO to the developers.

I asked Mallow Technologies for more testing on the code before delivering it, and they quickly rectified this. Everything is thoroughly tested now.
