What challenge were you trying to address with Made by Porter?

We hired Made by Porter for their web and app design services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve worked with Made by Porter on a few websites. Our teams have done everything from pure marketing websites to full-fledged web apps. Our internal team handles the development of the websites and interfaces with the end client, while their resources take our requirements and produce viable designs. 

They’ve also helped create our website, in which we want to convey succinctly who we are as a company. Our call to action encourages customers to book a consultation with us. As a result, we’ve asked them to design a website that gives us confidence in terms of securing customers. To do that, they’ve used strong language and design themes.

We work with three designers. 

How did you come to work with Made by Porter?

Made by Porter has had a longstanding contract with our company even before I joined it. We selected them for our recent projects because they were good. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested more than $50,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started doing business with them in January 2017, and the engagement is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

If we’re doing an internal project, I measure success by checking whether or not I like their designs. If it’s for one of our end clients, I check whether or not the customer likes their outputs. So far, the quality of Made by Porter’s work is perfect. On top of that, our website — which they’ve helped develop — has a 70% conversion rate. 

How did Made by Porter perform from a project management standpoint?

We manage everything, so they don’t do any project management tasks. Meanwhile, we communicate via Slack. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their creativity is impressive. They can take instructions and develop something visual from there. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Made by Porter’s design ability outweighs their project management abilities. They generally hit deadlines, but we sometimes have to rework their outputs and trim down their design. In other words, their designs are fantastic, but they don’t always perfectly hit our requirements. This is an ongoing battle between design and development, so I’m not overly critical of them about this.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be specific in your instructions. On top of that, decide how much control you want to have versus how much you want them to contribute to the final outcome. If you want to have a lot of control over what the end design looks like, you may want to look for another team. However, if you want to leverage Made by Porter to do what they’re good at, they’re a great team.
