I'm the head of product at Tiba, a think tank in Brazil. We're currently providing a buy now, pay later solution. At the end of the day, we basically provide loans through Pix, a payment processing company here in Brazil.

What challenge were you trying to address with Luby Software?

We didn't have an internal technology team as such; we only had two software developers. Therefore, we hired Luby Software to help us build our main product.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Luby Software has helped us develop our main solution, which is a banking integration for loans and buy now, pay later transactions. This solution consists of a mobile app for iOS and Android and a web platform.

Initially, we provided Luby Software with a requirements document detailing what we wanted to build, our business information, and some rules and diagrams for the product. Additionally, we provided them with a layout for the app. Our internal team of designers had designed the entire app, so we provided Luby Software with those files.

What is the team composition?

We've worked with four members of Luby Software's team, including the CTO, who helped us refine the idea of what we wanted to build. On a daily basis, we work with a technical leader who provides reports, defines delivery dates, and lets us know how the project is going. Additionally, we work with two support members who provide advice and knowledge regarding the app's design and features.

Still, this has been a very big project. At its peak, around 20 teammates from Luby Software worked on it. However, they completed the main project in four months. Since then, we've switched to a much smaller team that provides support and helps us build small features.

A friend from another company recommended Luby Software to us.

We've spent around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them around July 2022, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our engagement with Luby Software has been successful. When we finished the main project, we launched the app, and our customers started interacting with us more. This has ultimately improved our service.

How did Luby Software perform from a project management standpoint?

We've had some delays, but those haven't been significant. The one I remember was when we missed a deadline by a week. As for budget management, Luby Software gives us a budget for every new project, and they've never changed that budget along the way.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I would like to give a shout-out to Paulo (Software Solutions Architect), who is our technical leader and the main teammate we work with. We trust in Paulo whenever we request something technically challenging or want to solve something.

I also want to give a shout-out to Henrique (Software Developer) and Ádrian (Backend Developer). They're both great engineers who we trust to solve day-to-day basic problems.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Overall, Luby Software has delivered what we wanted from them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be great if they asked for more information about what their clients want to build and created a model to manage that information so that they could better understand their needs. It has taken us a lot of meetings for them to understand what we want to build, which is why small delays have happened.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Provide them with a lot of information about what you want. For example, create a document with specifications and diagrams so that they truly understand what you want to build. If you don't have enough information about what you want, don't try to build a product just because.

I’m a software architect for a health technology company. We’ve built an app for a Brazilian health insurance company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Luby Software?

We implemented new health modeling for users. In this health model, we wanted direct integration via Bluetooth with IoT devices like smart bands and other devices to monitor blood pressure. Overall, we wanted to make it easier for our customers to use these devices and synchronize the information with our app so they don’t have to insert the information manually.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Luby Software was responsible for integrating APIs into our app so that it communicated directly via Bluetooth with devices. They integrated Google Fit and OHealth.

They already knew how to do the process, so we didn’t have a research phase. Lub Software worked 2–3 months and gave us the documentation at the end.

The React Native plug-in was built using JavaScript, Objective-C, Swift, and TypeScript.

What is the team composition?

We had 4–5 team members, including the team manager and 3–4 developers.

How did you come to work with Luby Software?

We initially searched for enterprises that collaborated on IoT. We found a large company in Brazil that sold these devices; they got white-label products from China. They recommended Luby Software to help us in this process.

The contract was for 112,000 Brazilian Real (approximately $21,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from October–December 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We haven’t launched the model with our customers. We simply deployed it in production for a limited percentage of the users. It’ll be 1–2 months before we decide to launch for 100% of the users, so we don’t have numeric results yet.

Moreover, Luby Software met our expectations. We found some bugs after the release, but they gave us 2–3 months for testing and giving feedback. We missed some things, but maybe we’ll contact them in the future to make some adjustments.

In general, the project and release were excellent.

How did Luby Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Some things took longer, but it wasn’t over 1–2 weeks. We communicated through WhatsApp and emails and did weekly sprint reviews. Additionally, they made phone calls to show the progress.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

The team manager was excellent. He always helped us when we had issues.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Luby Software did what they could to solve our problems. Some parts of the project were in Chinese, so they needed to contact the Chinese team. Although it was a complex process, they were flexible. The team members made the app for iOS and Android simultaneously.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t have anything to improve.

The concept to be presented refers to the creation of the game "Master of Business”. The objective of the game is to make an interaction into reality virtual with the players, where they must “cut” the day-to-day difficulties of an entrepreneur. To do this, we are based on creating a game similar to Beat Saber, where the player will have two “lightsabers” in their hands, which will use to cut the blocks that will come sequentially to your direction within the environment. What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We're about to review the platform's front page that Luby Software is creating, and if there are minor changes or adaptations, they'll address them. The team has everything well defined and measured so far and delivered everything with high quality.

How did Luby Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Luby Software uses the Agile methodology to define every step of the project before every sprint. The team is also punctual without any delays and flexible and precise in adapting the budget based on our changing and expanding requirements. Regarding communication, we use Slack, but they're flexible enough to adjust to my preferred platforms: Skype and WhatsApp.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review? 

Our experience with the whole team involved in my project has been remarkable. Nonetheless, Paulo and Luis are my main points of contact.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Luby Software is the best-organized company I've worked with by far, and I think that's the key to the project's success. The way Paulo organizes everything is unique.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't think there's anything they can improve on. We keep trying to improve every day, regardless of a request from our side, so everything has been going smoothly with them.

What challenge were you trying to address with Luby Software?
We needed help implementing a mobile app and other custom solutions we were looking to create. We wanted our partner to create these solutions from the ground up.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?
Luby Software has helped us develop a mobile app from scratch using React Native. Now, they're also developing the backend using Node.js and Next.js. This app is being developed for both iOS and Android devices.

Initially, we discussed the requirements with Luby Software and showed them our vision, including some basic designs for the app and the admin portal. That initial meeting was held in Luby Software's offices, during which we met their founders, their CTO, and some engineers. After discussing the requirements, we also told them about the technology that we would be using. Then, they defined the team members who would be assigned to this project.

From there, Luby Software established Agile as the methodology they would use to tackle this project. We also defined the number of sprint cycles that would be necessary to complete the project milestones 

Thus far, we've completed eight of those sprint cycles. This app uses geolocation and integrates with NFC technology. The app will also be able to read barcodes. There's also an API environment to be built in order to provide B2B integration.

What is the team composition?
We work with five teammates from Luby Software in total, including a technical coordinator, two backend developers, and two frontend developers. From time to time, we also work with their designers to adjust the Figma designs. We also meet with their CTO occasionally, who checks with us to see how things are going, assess our priorities, and see if we need some changes.

We've spent close to $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?
We began working with them in September 2023, and we’re still working with them. The project should be completed by March 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our main result is the number of features we've deployed within the number of hours we've worked with Luby Software. Thus far, the project is going really well, as the features are being deployed as planned. We've had very few changes; less than 5% of the features have had changes after deployment. Overall, Luby Software has shown commitment to the project and demonstrated that they deliver good quality work. 

How did Luby Software perform from a project management standpoint?
Luby Software is a great partner. They have great skills to manage the project and get things done, so we're really happy with what we're achieving. The team delivers on time, and their communication is very transparent, which I appreciate a lot. Frequently, these kinds of projects face challenges, but Luby Software is great at discussing those roadblocks and offering great solutions to make them less stressful.

We use Jira and phone calls to collaborate. Additionally, we have a daily 15-minute Scrum meeting to touch base and go over everything that's going on. If needed, I have no issues in communicating with them if I find a problem. Overall, we've developed a great relationship. I've worked in technology for 30 years, and Luby Software is, by far, the best team I've worked with.

What did you find most impressive about them?
Luby Software is very dependable and experienced; I really like working with them and would like to congratulate their whole team. It's very clear that they love what they do, so it's always nice to see the passion for their work — it really makes a great difference. Other providers might only do their work but not provide any additional input or recommendations.

In addition to that, Luby Software is also very hardworking. One time, we needed to have something ready by Monday, and they told us that they would work over the weekend to make it happen. We didn't even have to ask; it came from them. Overall, they're a great company to work with. I've even recommended them to friends who have companies developing new software solutions.

Are there any areas they could improve?
Our collaboration is entirely remote. Although this doesn't cause any issues at all, it would be great if we had an in-person meeting with all of the teammates involved. I've really enjoyed working with them, and I think that meeting them would be a great experience for relationship building.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Know the kind of methodology you prefer to use for your project. Luby Software is very flexible and can work using different methodologies and communication environments. Additionally, know really well what you want to develop and what your objectives are. Luby Software is a great development company, but they're not consultants, so don't expect them to create the strategy for your business.

Despite the generally positive experience with Luby Software, the initial stages of the project did leave some room for improvement. Specifically, the process of interviewing candidates for the development team was somewhat challenging, as we encountered several individuals who weren't quite the fit we were hoping for in terms of expertise and experience. 

However, I must stress that even though this aspect of the process could have been streamlined, it was a minor hiccup in an otherwise successful project journey. The final team assembled by Luby Software was excellent and well-integrated, which quickly offset the initial difficulties. This small stumbling block in no way detracted from the overall high quality of Luby's work on our project.

What challenge were you trying to address with Luby Technology?

We needed help with mobile development for our business.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Luby Technology is doing full stack design and development for us. The project has been going from designing the app, project management of the process, the actual building of the platform, and the deployment to iOS and Android platforms. I provided them with wireframes and a requirements document, and they took it from there.

The platform is a marketplace, so there are buyers and sellers. The enrollment includes creating profiles, the users' availability, the booking of services for these users, and the transaction and payment management for these bookings.

The target market is musicians, who are the sellers, and the people who want to hire those musicians, who are the buyers — it's like Uber Eats and Airbnb for artists. Users can see who is in their area, how much they cost, how soon they can get there, and what they do.

What is the team composition?

I've worked with approximately nine people from their team, including four developers, two designers, and two project managers.

How did you come to work with Luby Technology?

I found them through a web search. I engaged with them because of their experience building service apps, which required availability and reservation capability. Also, the people I interacted with were of high caliber.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I've been delighted with the quality of their work. They've also seen potential issues I didn’t see and are proactive in making suggestions to create an easier UX. 

We hope to publish the app in the app stores next month — artists cannot wait to use it because there isn’t anything like it on the market.

How did Luby Technology perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management is good — I'm pretty pleased with the communication. We mostly used Trello for project management, Slack for communication, and Adobe for storyboarding and mock-ups.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're very committed to providing a professional end product — their platform looks on par with any professional app I've used. This isn't an amateur deliverable; it's polished, well thought through, and above my requirements.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could document and communicate the scope of each sprint a little better.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My first suggestion would be to try them in terms of advice to get the most out of them — they're a very good firm, and I'd recommend them to anyone. I'd also advise having a documented scope for each sprint that both parties sign off on.
