The project scope includes the end-to-end development of a web platform with an integrated admin panel and a public API to support a mobile application that sends CPU and network speed measurements. The work will cover system design, backend and frontend development, database integration, API implementation, testing, deployment, and documentation.

We had an initial app designed from an agency and needed a full stack mobile development company to help us turn the design into a functional application. Initially, we had a very tight deadline of 3 months from project inception to project deadline. We were trying to co-launch the app along with our docu-movie. Upon receiving the Figma design, Krootl laid out a week by week plan along with estimated hours for every single feature of our application in order for the application to be finished within 3 months. 

Krootl developed a weekly timetable for meetings in order for objectives to be met on their side, and provided us with constant updates. The app was near completed, but our own deadline was extended. Thus, we are currently working on additional features and enhancements for the application.

The challenge is finding a single company that has this broad scope of skills, is flexible enough to trial-and-error solutions, and then has the structure to crank out product once the solution has been identified.

Krootl was introduced to me through a colleague based on their good experience. Initially, engagement was limited to a single app, but the scope grew as creative solutions and predictable outputs were produced. Since that initial app, Krootl is involved in several different projects ranging from research to well-defined product.

Initially, I created a rough wireframe of the concept. Krootl then deconstructed that into standard workflows as well as designed the UI's. During that process, they worked with me to shape the solutions and surface the details needed to code a complete product. Schedules were created, periodic reviews and (almost) daily chats held, and regular distributions to key stakeholders for feedback. In the meantime, Krootl saw the bigger picture of the product (e.g. backend services) and worked on my behalf they fit the product concept.

I work with the CEO almost every day and with their UI/UX designer frequently. When necessary, the engineers are on the call to get/share first hand information.

The products are still in development but that is due to factors outside of Krootl. I currently have nearly complete apps that are passing data and have clickable work flow to use for stakeholder testing.

My style is to do quick, frequent checks, which Krootl accommodates well, taking all forms such as email, DM and video calls. Though Krootl is in a very different time zone, Ivan (CEO) has shifted his schedule so he and I can talk in real time. Krootl also creates and updates documents such as Gantt charts, that I use for program planning, as well as required product documentation.

It is definitely the responsiveness, flexibility and skill. It is very unusual to be able to talk about your project on a moment's notice, speak with a very knowledgeable person that can make the decision, and see the result of that in short order. Because of Krootl, I feel I'm making unprecedented progress across several projects.

We were able to launch the product in desired time frames, using a cross-platform framework allowed us to save both budgets and time. Adding Firebase analytics allowed us to track the needed business metrics as well as application stability. We moved with the sprint iterations which allowed us to gradually improve user experience and be flexible in our decisions.

Krootl had timely and effective communication, the project was led through Jira however also had constant meetings offline with the team leaders as well as project managers. They upheld their responsibilities to an excellent standard and constantly met all the deadlines and expectations.

SMK is the most progressive grocery e-commerce company, however, Cooker is the number 1 start-up of the year in Ukraine based on Forbes Ukraine. As a professional company, we were extremely selective of our contractors and by choosing Krootl we were pleasantly surprised by their responsiveness, comprehensiveness and the involvement in UI, UX. Krootl never declined our requests, working over time on occasions such as holidays, weekends and during any emergency that we have faced. They worked specifically by the Scrum system with immense efficiency.

Krootl is a highly capable team that knows how to develop robust and dependable solutions. They've managed to build a mobile app with zero bugs and crashes — something that's normally difficult to achieve in any development project. Our product has been in the market for two months now, and we haven't encountered any issues or performed any maintenance work yet. We get what we pay for and more with their services, and we have no intentions of ending our collaboration with their skilled team.

We communicate via Slack and rely on Jira, Confluence, and GitHub for project management. Krootl has a straightforward and efficient workflow that allows us to achieve our goals on time without the inconvenience of having to follow up or talk to different resources.

I am the founder of Phable, a New Zealand-based company that creates AR experiences for people who want to turn a photo into a physical product.

What challenge were you trying to address with Krootl?

We were looking for a company that would help us with our AR app development. I wanted an app that users could utilize to scan their photos, and then have the AR software overlay a video. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Krootl built an Android and two iOS AR apps from scratch because, at the time, a lot of the solutions we were looking for were not yet on the market. 

Krootl was involved in the project from the beginning. We began with a discovery call to outline precisely what we wanted, and then they laid out a development plan. Krootl began wireframing, utilizing the simple user flows I provided.

Their UX teammates then improved our user flows and wireframes. They developed the app and the user flows: from the creation process to the uploading and processing, and then to the final upload to the app's backend. 

For development and the UX work, Krootl used Sketch and Figma. For the iOS app, they developed an app with photo creation and additional user features. However, we just wanted it to scan a final photo product for the Android app — we didn't want any extra features for the Android version. 

They also created a kiosk program in Flutter that allows users to use our portable photo booths and directly upload photos and videos from a mobile phone to our kiosk software.

I primarily worked with Ivan (CEO), who led the iOS development team. I also worked with an Android developer and a UX/UI developer.

They have a lot of experience in ARKit in iOS and have written numerous articles on the topic — that’s one of the reasons we’re working with them.

For now, we're close to investing $150,000–$200,000 with Krootl.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Within the first week of our launch, we had over 5,000 sign-ups; it was a huge success! However, due to COVID-19, we haven't fully rolled out our kiosks, but we should soon. 

Krootl also optimized our upload times, dropping them from three minutes to 60 seconds. 

How did Krootl perform from a project management standpoint?

Krootl's team was great at meeting deadlines, even when we changed our specs and software halfway through the project. We experienced some UI and AR issues at the beginning of the project, but they responded and resolved them quickly. 

We used Trello and Zeplin for project management — everything was very organized, and Ivan handled all project management. There was a time difference between our companies, but they accommodated us and were open to meeting at odd hours.

We mostly communicated over Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Krootl confronted development problems head-on — we had a lot of issues connecting mobile devices directly to our kiosk, but they created an easy solution that doesn't require an app download, just a web browser. 

Their team was great at making creative solutions to achieve what we wanted. So, if a third-party solution wasn't available on the marketplace, Krootl came in and developed it for us from scratch.

I can't think of anything right now.
