I’m the director of a height safety products manufacturer and seller.

What challenge were you trying to address with IMSX?

We required a custom app for system inspection for our clients. In height safety, items installation — such as anchor points or static lines — have to be certified every 12 months. As part of this work, we need to record information about those items, like serial numbers, batch codes, types of items, brands, materials, manufacturer names, model numbers, site location, installation date, last certification date, and installer name.

Recording all that information was difficult and required manual processes on paper and spreadsheets. Therefore, we wanted to find a way to record all that information quickly and easily via an app we could use on-site.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

IMSX helped us create the app system we needed from scratch. Phase one of the project focused on concept and design because we weren’t completely sure of what we needed. Once we completed phase one, phase two focused on putting together our findings and all the information to define how the product would work.

In phase three, IMSX started developing the app. Given that it was a new product, and there was no other product in the market like it, there was a lot of trial and error. Therefore, phase three took quite a long time, and we went in a number of different directions.

For phase four, once IMSX developed the product, we implemented it and made changes and tweaks as needed. Phase five focused on refining the app and making updates over time.

As for the main features, this app allows us to record information on-site and create reports and documents for our clients. In addition to developing the app, IMSX also wrote all the manuals for how to use it, and they also provided training for my staff.

What is the team composition?

I always communicated with Clive (Founder) and Odette (Project Manager & Business Process Analyst).

How did you come to work with IMSX?

I just searched on Google and started to call different app development companies. I went through three or four interviews and told those companies what I wanted to do. Clive was the first person who actually said that he could do that, so we took it from there.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $240,000 AUD (approximately $160,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around June 2018, and the partnership ended around June 2022.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app developed by IMSX allowed us to make item installation certification a fast and not-so-laborious process. Overall, I felt that IMSX was doing their absolute best to get the best outcome and results for us. They were well invested in ensuring the product was exactly what we wanted.

How did IMSX perform from a project management standpoint?

IMSX was very good at keeping us up to date; there was always a great flow of information. They always got back to us very quickly, whether it was via phone or email, so we never felt like we were waiting on answers.

Whenever there were changes, cost differences, delays, or issues, they quickly got on the phone to talk to us. Moreover, they were very flexible on how they would manage those situations, so our engagement always felt like a partnership; I didn’t feel like I was just employing them to do a job.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One of the things I was very impressed with was how professional everyone on IMSX’s team was. Clive’s industry knowledge and ability to take a concept and turn it into reality were amazing. He listened to us really well and fully understood what we wanted before going away to develop the solution for us.

Other people I had worked with before didn’t have those abilities. There seemed to be a disconnect between what we wanted to achieve and what they understood. However, Clive was very practical and immediately understood what we were trying to achieve.

Moreover, he ensured that we saw whatever he was developing, which made the whole process easy and enjoyable. Overall, IMSX’s knowledge, experience, and dedication to ensuring that the project outcome was exactly what we wanted were outstanding.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything IMSX could have improved on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a very clear idea of what you want. There are many different ways to do things, so if you don’t have a clear vision of what you want IMSX to do, it’ll be very difficult for them to deliver the outputs that you expect.

Really happy with the quality of the app and the management of the project and the proof is in the result – many rave reviews in the App stores.

IMSX communication and project management is exceptional. They took the time to understand exactly what we needed and delivered far above what we expected. They are a small team of highly skilled individuals creating outstanding results.

Are there any areas for improvement or something IMSX could have done differently?

No, IMSX provides a premium professional software development service which has allowed us to go to market with our Breze Client Mobile App. The users of the App are extremely happy with its capability and we are equally happy with the operational efficiencies this has brought through client self-service.

I engaged Clive and his team at iMSX nearly 2 years ago, working with them from the initial documentation of concept for our bespoke solution, through the design, build, test and initial rollout phases. 

They managed a two-month process to document and structure the ideas, then commenced a longer term project where they: created prototype screens based on the workflows, built the working environment and data structures in AWS, built the functional workflows, created and refined an import function to move data across from our old system, managed a log of issues and enhancements, delivered a phased implementation with specific functionality rolled out in a series of iterative steps.

Usability of the software in daily operations, enhancing our ability to manage our workload and avoid losing sales opportunities.

Excellent documentation and project management from the start, with the right people in the documentation roles. Project management has been organised and communicated regularly and we meet weekly to review, plan and implement. In the later stages, we have had "live" work going on and the occasional functional issue has been promptly responded to and repaired.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

As someone who worked many years ago in large-scale software development projects, it was refreshing to meet someone who could understand the overall concepts (even when I presented them in "old-school" language) and put the right people to work to make things happen with the most advanced technologies and techniques. 

The staff I have worked with at iMSX have all proven to be intelligent, creative and insightful, coming up with solutions that demonstrated real understanding of our business. They have taken a genuine interest in delivering on the vision and have been very responsive, agreeable and supportive in helping me to achieve a great result.

Are there any areas for improvement or something IMSX could have done differently?

I have been very satisfied and don't have any significant issues. These projects are prone to revision and update during the course of development and we have not had any serious missteps that have caused concern. We are looking at finance/grant options now, and it would have been good to look into this as part of the initial planning stages, but iMSX were able to assist us in applying recently.
