BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the CEO/Founder of OneDay (https://www.oneday.com.hk, https://www.oneday.com.vn, https://www.oneday.com.ph, https://www.oneday.co.th, https://www.oneday.com.sg, https://www.oneday.com.my, https://www.oneday.co.id) and we needed a strong technology partner to develop our web and mobile app.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Hodfords, and what were your goals?

The architecture of the system was key; although the initial launch was for Hong Kong only the longer term plan was for the whole of Asia and potentially beyond. We wanted a single mobile that could work across all of Asia rather than launching a separate mobile app for each jurisdiction we gave Hodfords the challenge of delivering a single app that had to handle a multitude of languages, currencies, measurement units and legal requirements.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We looked at a number of vendors in Asia and Hodfords was awarded the project for their strong track record for delivering successful enterprise projects. They impressed me with the depth of their experience and were able to show many examples of technology application across a spread of difference sectors.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Development for ground up an app that was tailored specifically to our needs that had to satisfy a long list of requirements that we had. In terms of the technology choice, we were agnostic and let our technology partner choose their preferred technology.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We had a dream team and during the various stages of the development life-cycle Hodfords were able to quickly bring in specific resources to lend expertise to particular parts of the project. The development phase for the launch encompassed a slightly larger team comprising a product person, front-end and backend developers, flutter developers, designers, etc.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Many of this confidential but I will say that we have seen massive growth in the uptake of our app, traffic, sign-ups, etc.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

The project was managed using the usual way using project managements systems like Jira. The delivery was great and there were times when business strategy changed (mainly because of me) and the team were understanding enough to accommodate and we were able to change course very quickly.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive part of working with Hodfords was that they feel so seamless. Having done so many projects in the past I found that a lot of other technology firms focus too much time and energy on technology and lose touch with reality and the business needs; with Hodfords I felt like I was working with a team of problem solvers rather than developers.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I felt that I had to improve more rather than them because I wasn't always able to respond quickly enough and they would chase me down.
