Project with PKP Energetyka S.A.
GISonLine provided digital transformation products and services to PKP Energetyka (European energy and utility provider) in the form of enterprise geospatial system implementation and system integration to PKP’s existing business & financial systems. Through the implementation of GRIDonLine, an enterprise geospatial mapping system, GISonline successfully addressed the needs and complexity of providing visualization, analysis, and management for PKP’s rail and utility network distribution systems. Follow-on projects included integrating the GRIDonLine mapping system with PKP’s existing asset management (IBM Maximo), financial management (SAP), documentation management system (DMS), and SCADA (CIM standard) systems for a unified data exchange and decision support environment.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the Product Manager overseeing product requirements and development
For what projects/services did your company hire GISonLine, and what were your goals?
We had the need to integrate geospatial mapping components into the existing application. The goal was to establish connection to mapping services and integrate the geospatial components into the SaaS platform that served as the base-maps for end-user visualization.
How did you select GISonLine and what were the deciding factors?
We found GISonLine through referrals and after screening other geospatial provider companies selected GISonLine based on their knowledge and experience integrating geospatial solutions into platforms to support business operations and needs.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
GISonLine developed an integrated geospatial mapping and visualization solution that utilized OpenStreeMaps, web mapping services (WMS), JavaScripting, and HTML. The goal was to seamlessly integrate the mapping component into the existing software UI and provide users with the ability to view their Areas of Interests.
Users could pan, zoom, and search the maps via address locations, and turn features (maps, imager, data) on or off. In addition, Users could use a feature to draw a polygon/box around their area of interest and the App would save those coordinate/location for future use.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We had approximately 2-3 GISonLine team support that included geospatial analyst, geospatial developer, and project manager.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Once GISonLine integrated the mapping components and connections to the web services, we were able to market and advertise the mapping features as part of the overall application. This was a significant step to meeting client and end-users requirements.
Measurable outcomes included the ability for end-users to successfully find and view their desired locations on the map with ability to save their area of interests to return to the location during future or subsequent sessions.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timelines.
GISonLine has a well experience project management methodology and trained Project Managers. Communication was great with GISonLine having a focus on never leaving questions unanswered and weekly meetings to provide status/update on the project. With the use of online communication tools (ex: Slack, Zoom, Skype), we were never out of touch or unaware of project status.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
GISonLine took the time to understand our business needs and requirements and then outlined an approach that included mockups and concepts/examples. We were able to provide feedback and collaborate together to reach an agreed-upon solution and technology stack.
After that, GISonLine moved forward with development, testing, and implementation. You could tell the process was well defined and GISonLine was well experienced in the development and delivery of the project.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Nothing stood out as requiring improvement. Great experience and delivery met expectations.
Thanks to the GISonline team's efforts, the client was able to market the mapping features as part of their SaaS platform. The software development company noted the company's project management expertise. The team understood the client's needs and managed to deliver a satisfactory service.
