I am the former IS director of a government tax department.

What challenge were you trying to address with Giant Software Limited?

We engaged Giant Software Limited to help maintain and grow our back-office application. We also needed development support for any front-office and web services we needed.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had created a custom back-office system using COMAL, AlphaBASIC, and BASIC-PLUS. It also had a SQL Server built using Visual Studio as well as online functions built in HPE OpenVMS. Giant Software Limited helped us build features to calculate taxpayers liabilities through financial accounting systems effectively. 

They created other custom tax packages to reduce our workload as well. One will enable tax authorities to gather information from agents, finance companies, and other entities about US clients with funds abroad. It will then process that information back to the US government, the EU, and other countries. 

Giant Software Limited also maintains our existing systems, making changes as new laws and requirements come in. They’re completing ongoing work with our Windows and online services as well.

What is the team composition?

Roger (Managing Director, Giant Software Limited) is our main point of contact. He leads a team of specialists, including Chris (Senior Solutions Developer, Giant Software Limited), who focuses on the HPE OpenVMS side of the work; and Tony (Support Manager, Giant Software Limited) and Jon (Solutions Developer, Giant Software Limited), who work on the Windows and web applications and the servers. 
 
How did you come to work with Giant Software Limited?

We’d worked with two of Giant Software Limited’s principals before they formed Giant Software Limited. Their team offered services and a sizable amount of resources that matched our organization’s needs.
  
What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Giant Software in 2000. The collaboration is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Giant Software Limited helped us reduce our workload and grow our organization modularly to meet changing business, pollical, and taxations needs. Due to external factors, we’re looking into centralizing our systems in the future, but we’ve been thrilled with Giant Software Limited’s work. They deliver high-quality development work at excellent value.
 
How did Giant Software Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

The team is equally comfortable working in a structured approach as they are working using agile methodology. We tend to use both, and Giant Software Limited can adapt the process to meet our needs, deadline, and budget. Despite working remotely in a rural area, they can scale quickly and interact well with our internal team. We speak daily.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Giant Software Limited’s expert coders and analysts are always willing to go the extra mile for us. They demonstrate integrity, patience, reliability, and a knack for problem-solving. They can work long hours to deliver on occasionally unreasonable expectations on our part.
