We have a WordPress (not e-commerce) website, which is 8-10 years old. We have never paid a company to maintain the website or undertake SEO; we have only paid a company to do our PPC. The website seemed to be doing its job of generating new leads for us up until July/August this year. 

When I looked at the back end, I could see the SEO was primarily flagging red on Yoast, and so I tried to update it myself but quickly realized I was out of my depth. The overall aesthetics of the website were also somewhat old-fashioned. So, I was looking for a company to improve the aesthetics of our existing website, improve SEO, and improve online performance with any other recommendations.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Improved number of users hitting our website (measured via Google Analytics), including improved conversion rate from those users, which should result in more new clients.

So, this is not strictly about PM, but it is worth noting that we asked 3 companies to quote. I thought I made it clear to all 3 companies that I did not want, at this stage, to buy a new website (as that is a longer-term undertaking). I felt the core of the website was probably okay, but it needed updating and a professional company to assess and fix SEO, aesthetics, and general internet performance. So, in essence, I wanted quick remedial work. 

Of the 3 companies I contacted, 2, at the interview stage, immediately focused purely on a new website, in spite of my original brief. Genie Crawl, however, from the very beginning, focused on EXACTLY what I felt was needed. Within 2 WEEKS, they had completed and talked me through assessments, recommended and agreed on changes with me, AND started to implement those changes. 

All scoped out in easy-to-understand documentation, talking me through each stage, clarifying areas I didnt understand, and working expeditiously and always within the deadlines.

I am the founder and editor of a small limited run culture zine in Liverpool. We are an independent news source that caters to a wide range of readers, businesses and artists. In my role I make the decisions regarding our social and website output.

At the start we really wanted to make sure our website was crawlable by search engines because though we have a decent presence on social media we wanted to be able to hit the top of search rankings. So we hired Genie Crawl to help us squeeze out those clicks only qualified SEO guru's can find.

I was recommended by a friend in the industry who by chance happened upon them and received an excellent level of service.

As a magazine in Liverpool we have a very distinct dialect, this was no problem for Genie Crawl who helped us research other Scouse websites and tailor our SEO package to these specific needs. It was important for us that we walked the line between authentic language and more widely used keywords. I think Genie Crawl's advice and research techniques helped us create a platform our customers comment on.

I only worked with one person from GC's team. His name was Brett and he was informative, polite and was reachable, which I have found to be one of the most important characteristics in someone I do business with. He was a great account manager and I would recommend his skills and insight to anyone looking for an SEO expert.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

It took a few months of tweaking but we steadily increased our traffic enjoying our busiest month in July where we saw an increase of 200% as we started to implement our SEO strategy.

We communicated via email at first but they moved onto Skype where their screen-sharing style of teaching is beneficial to those who may need someone there to give advice and feedback in real-time on their content creation and publishing.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I have never gone through my writing with screen share before and I think that is a great way to help build confidence and instil SEO ideals while you are writing. I believe this leads to more authentic copy, while not compromising the authenticity of the text.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the entire process was, even though they were Tottenham fans. I can't really hold that against them can I!

We have several phone meetings to get a feel for each other, during which I outlined my long term strategy. We established a good rapor and they helped me decide on a new web site theme. We agreed pricing etc...

Worked directly with one person from sales team who passed all my commentst etc re development of the site on to their developer.
