I’m the COO of TripleKey, a company that provides a platform for users to create and manage their own digital keys.

What challenge were you trying to address with Format-3?

We needed help with our UX/UI design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Format-3 provided UX/UI design services for some of our components and our website. We started with a discovery call, and they came back with a concept of how we would go about it. They described their thought process about what we do and how our customers should feel. The team jumped into the UX/UI and the strategy component behind what we’re doing. They worked on user mapping, role mapping, and journeys. The team interviewed every single stakeholder.

Format-3 helped us define the initial user personas, and we refined them over time.

We had two points of contact: Hardy, the CEO, and Ricardo, the product manager. We also worked with a few other people who came in and out based on the work that was needed.

How did you come to work with Format-3?

We were referred to them by someone who had worked with one of their team members before. We chose Format-3 because they were relatable and understood the scope of the project. They stated that they would overdeliver and not just be a vendor but a team member, and that was 100% true.

We spent $80,000.

We worked together from March to December 2024.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Format-3 helped us save a lot of time and money. They overdelivered on the work and exceeded our expectations. They worked faster than we could keep up with, which is the only reason we completed the engagement in December. The team finished three different iterations of how the application would work. We're still integrating everything from version one of what they did.

How did Format-3 perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered the work on time and within budget. We communicated well via phone calls, emails, Zoom, and Slack. For project management, they started with Asana and moved to ClickUp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Format-3 had a really deep understanding of who would be using the product, the business case, and the pain points that our customers wanted to solve. The team questioned the way we presented what we needed and went through an even deeper refinement. They acted like a coach and a consultant, not just somebody who was collecting a fee.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Engage with them when you're ready. They move fast, so you've got to have the expertise on your side to be able to move at that speed.

The Format-3 team helped us take a step back. They also helped us examine all the research we’ve done on this problem to date, have difficult but much-needed conversations, and ultimately develop a set of information architecture design principles we’re all aligned on.

We’ll be busy in the deep work for the next few months but this was just what we needed to kickstart our engines, get inspired and break down what previously felt like a gargantuan tsunami into smaller, manageable waves and hypotheses to test next.

I’m the associate VP of creative at a media company. We provide high-quality alternatives for conservatives across all spheres of public life, including news coverage, political commentary, entertainment, and consumer goods.

What specific goals or objectives did you hire Format-3 to accomplish for DW Ventures?

We needed Format-3 to create a dynamic, interactive website to build awareness and drive interest in the Pendragon series by immersing users in the world through engaging videos, a family tree, character bios, episode overviews, and more. We also needed them to adopt a flexible, phased site design to create tailored versions of the site to support pre-launch, during the launch, and a post-launch stage, ensuring adaptability for future updates and features, with evergreen content. Moreover, we needed Format-3 to position the Pendragon site as independent from the Daily Wire ecosystem, with the option to include links to Daily Wire content rather than full integration. Lastly, we needed them to create an email capture or newsletter signup to stay connected with users and maintain ongoing engagement through email updates and newsletters.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Format-3 was a close partner through all phases of the project, including the concept, design, and infrastructure. They produced a unique and high-quality site that was fully custom. Initially, they provided outlines and mock-ups, followed by animated demos and eventually fully built components with active feedback and tweaks along the way.Format-3 developed the full site. Creative assets were provided to them; however, they also played a key role in doing their own design and providing guidance on how exactly to make or adjust assets to create the best experience for the website.

We worked with 6–10 teammates from Format-3.

Format-3’s work had a big impact by elevating the brand and creating a unique, premium experience. Feedback has been universally similar — we’ve been surprised and impressed with the quality of the site, which brings to life a book and TV series in a unique and immersive way.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Delivered the project at an accelerated pace that allowed us to launch on a timeline of less than 100 days from the initial project inception. The quality of the work was not compromised or diluted to accommodate our rapid deadlines. 

A high standard of excellence was maintained throughout. Brought UXD discipline to a team that was completely lacking in this critical piece of the digital organization. They were able to introduce and educate the team in a way that brought everyone along enthusiastically. 

Beyond launching the product, they helped transform the culture of the organization as rapidly as they delivered designs.

Yes, items were delivered faster than any design team I've ever collaborated with, and then in keeping us on track with our aggressive goals, they would work in real-time to deliver assets within sprints to prevent our engineers from being blocked by missing designs. 

This required working on two tracks, building the conceptual framework for the future scalability of our app in one track while delivering day-to-day tickets during active development at the same time.
