I was the CTO for a Computer Vision company based in Los Angeles, CA. Our company featured several consumer facing websites as well as multiple mobile applications for both iOS and Android.

All of our consumer facing websites, mobile applications for both iOS and Android, as well as new websites and mobile applications that were under development needed UI/UX design. We did not have any in-house UI/UX talent, thus we turned to Fivecube Studio for their UI/UX expertise.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed a full redesign of all of our websites and mobile applications as their design was years out of date. Thus, modernization, updated imagery, etc. were the ultimate goals.

It was several projects combined - multiple mobile apps (both iOS and Android) as well as several consumer sites. All needed a complete overhaul of UI/UX. Fivecube Studio was responsible for wireframing, some graphic design, color palette design, etc. My role was overall guidance, requirements, and supervision of all projects.

From Fivecube Studio, only their lead UI/UX designer was involved.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Overall usage of both the iOS and Android applications increased by significant numbers. User engagement on our consumer websites increased as well. Stakeholders in the business were very impressed with the design changes to all applications.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was seamless. Fivecube Studios felt as if they were members of the team. We collaborated using Trello and Slack with no complications in communication.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They easily fit in as "members of the team" - they did not feel like a separate entity. Fivecube always felt as if they had the best interest of our company in mind and were not afraid to push back on us if they truly felt their suggestions were the right way to go.

Our company, myself included, did not have and were not experienced in UI/UX - that's why we hired Fivecube. I'm glad they pushed back because we got a better product in the end.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Continue your growth as a company. You have a great thing going and I'd love to see it continue to become something bigger!

Once we selected the Fivecube team we had our own mockups (there were 4 screens) so we gave them something like nothing. But they found a solution for us after strong research for our project, they created a few examples of wireframes. Depending on them they started to creat UX and UI Design under our PM control.

We had a very professional work process with our project manager and Fivecube Team Designers. On our project was working 2 UI/UX designers and 1 Graphic designer. It was a very powerful work process.

They provided us UI and UX solutions which were perfectly fitt our and user's needs. The Fivecube team come to us with a fully functional clickable prototype which was like the last version for our needs and successfully delivered to development team.

Fivecube team was working very professionally, fast providing high-quality results. We were working with communication tools like Slack and Trello so we saw all the work process.

They did even more than we asked to do and depending on this the result was much better so everything was as I would want it.

The designer from Fivecube was integration as a member of our own team, working with the Product Owner, other designers participating in the project, and a team of frontend developers.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have launched several new features and improvements to our software that were built in direct collaboration with the Fivecube designer. This has boosted the capabilities of our SaaS solution and improved the experience for our users.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The designer from Fivecube integrated seamlessly with our internal workflows, participating in our processes in a manner virtually indistinguishable from an internal collaborator.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Apart from the designs itself, one of the highlights of working with Fivecube has been the positive disposition, availability and eagerness to contribute for the success of the projects.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Despite the overall precision in the output, there were at times some confusion regarding which change should appear on which version. But we quickly discussed and defined a tracking process to provide clarity in execution.

The quality of their product and deliverables is always very high. All of our expectations are either met or exceeded.

They’ve grown in their project management skills. We use Trello and Slack for the project. If we need something done fairly quickly, which happens from time to time, they are very responsive, which speaks to their ability to get things done quickly.

Their professionalism and promptness is impressive. They also pay great attention to quality and detail. They’ve been easy to work with, so it’s great.

There’s nothing I can think of for them to improve. Anything we’ve had an issue with, they fix it quickly.

Feel free to give them your most complicated design challenges and see what they can do; they can step up to it.

Once we selected the vendor, we had few phone calls to discuss the main plan and strategy, project manager allocation, budgets and timetables. In the first week we have started with mockups and brainstorming, in first month we have already agreed on the structure, identity and main elements.

We had a project manager on our side to oversee the vendors work and make a changes on the go, they have provided us a direct contact to a designer as well as project manager for overall process.

The new UI we got was impressive as it was planned to be, we saw grammatical improvement on the avg. time on the website due to optimised cross-linking as well as improvement on CR because we have redesigned whole on boarding process.

It did look like a most efficient communication happening within same room, even though PMs was thousand kms apart.

They listen to our comments and always try to find a solution for both sides. That process was smooth and without any criticism or arguing.

MB i would love to see some detailed reporting on the process from their side, but apart from that everything was as i would want it

They broke down the deliverables into around 10 milestones and promised to deliver each by their own time estimation (approximate)

They delivered some items, but not all of them were on time. I faced many punctuality issues in weekly status update meetings with their developer, and I had to reach out to management until he became more punctual. After 2.5 months, they assigned a project manager. But during this time, I was deceived as what they showed me as "delivered" was mostly front end and not connected to the backend, and most of the time, there was no backend. Somehow most of the "deliverables" was a replica of the designs i made in figma, just did not work.
