We're Dark Blue, a Shoreditch-based design & technology studio crafting web experiences for 12 years. Our team of designers and developers blends research, experience design, software engineering and AI to solve problems and delight users.

We grow deliberately, learn fast from emerging tech (AR, VR, AI) and partner with startups, global orgs and agencies—building lasting relationships and measurable, creative solutions.

What Sets Us Apart

Led by curiosity, not hype

We bought a Project Tango in 2016 to experiment with AR on the web, then moved on to web-based VR. Now it’s AI. We’ve always been early to new technology, but we only recommend it when it solves a real problem, and we’ll tell you plainly when it doesn’t.

You work with the people doing the work

We’re a small team of designers and developers, founded and still run by a designer. The people you meet at the start are the people designing and building your project, so nothing gets lost in translation between pitch and launch.

Clients stay for years

Intuit QuickBooks has worked with us since 2022, and many clients have been with us much longer. It usually starts with one team and one project, then word gets round the building. We explain things in plain English and we don’t pad out scope.

Commonly Asked Questions

Most projects follow the same shape. We start with research, looking at your analytics and talking to your team and your audience, then share what we’ve learned in a regroup session before design begins. Everything is designed in Figma as clickable prototypes you can try on your own laptop and phone, with no cap on feedback rounds. We build in sprints, give you a staging link to check everything before launch, and handle content migration, redirects and DNS on the day.

We’re a small team, so you talk directly to the designers and developers working on your project. We explain things in plain English, flag issues early and share work as clickable prototypes rather than static slides, so you can see real progress. If you’re in London, we’re happy to come to you or have you over at our Shoreditch studio.

That’s where most clients are. We start with the work, not the technology: we spend time with your team and look for the repetitive jobs worth fixing. Then we build a working prototype of the best one or two ideas within a few weeks, using your real data. You don’t need a perfect data platform to begin, and if AI isn’t the right answer, we’ll tell you.

Yes, often. We’ve partnered with creative agencies including TBWA, Mother and JKR, where they lead the art direction and we look after UX, UI and development. We’re used to fitting into someone else’s process and working alongside in-house teams.

Every launch includes 14 days of aftercare. After that, we can host your site on Vercel and offer ongoing support and retained time for improvements. Many of our clients stay with us for years, so the site keeps getting better after it goes live.
