I'm the director of software engineering at a fintech company that builds financial products for Mexico. We currently have two products, and I'm in charge of the engineering teams and hiring new talent.

We needed to augment our teams with software engineers.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We're working with Coderio in a staff augmentation format. We've selected engineers to work directly with our teams who are embedded into our teams and collaborate alongside our in-house engineers. Coderio's engineers' deliverables are working mainly on software documentation and collaborating with the team. We have mobile and web applications and Coderio's engineers work mainly on our web app. The team's primary focus is working on business continuity and core systems migration.

We've provided Coderio's engineers with the same onboarding we do with any other engineer. Our approach is to treat the team's engineers as full-time employees. We've treated them similarly in the onboarding phase in terms of understanding our product, processes, and technologies. Coderio's backend engineer works on our product's backend, and the frontend engineer works on some backend and UI work for the web application. Coderio's engineers use the Ruby programming language.

What is the team composition?

Currently, we work with two engineers from Coderio: a backend and a frontend engineer. We've also worked with Joaquin (Co-Founder & Executive Chairman) and an account manager.

How did you come to work with Coderio?

I found Coderio on Clutch. I contacted multiple agencies and evaluated them. I had an initial call with all the agencies, and we reviewed the requirements. We discussed some questions, and I evaluated them based on the alignment of the requirements, responsiveness, and the type of talent they had. We chose Coderio because we use Ruby as a software development language, and they have many Ruby developers. 

Additionally, Coderio was eager to work with us and moved forward very fast. I liked those things, and I also saw the team was aligned with our requirements. Not all the agencies had the level of experience we required in terms of compliance, contract level, and security concerns of working with external engineers in fintech. Coderio was pretty open, and they had an ISO certification, which made the process much easier and faster.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend $12,000 monthly and plan to spend around $24,000 when we expand our team. Overall, we expect to spend around $150,000–$200,000 in a six-month period.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2024, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The success metric is that we're on track with our systems migration. Coderio has been fundamental to the project's continuity. We haven't experienced any major issues or delays. The team is eager to work and continue working with us, and they're very interested in a long-term relationship and not just solving our short-term issues or necessities.

How did Coderio perform from a project management standpoint?

Our collaboration with Coderio has been fluid in terms of communication. We have great communication with the entire team via Slack and Google Meet, and we have a monthly sync with the account manager. Coderio is open to feedback and understanding our needs. The team meets deadlines and works within budget, and we use Jira for project management.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Joaquin (Co-Founder & Executive Chairman) was very responsive when I first contacted the team and tried to align our requirements. He was attentive to all my questions.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Coderio has quickly provided new candidates when we're looking for more engineers. Coderio's communication and speed stand out.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Coderio can improve the quality of their talent. We're a very demanding company that is always looking for highly skilled engineers. Sometimes, Coderio has struggled to align our needs with the roles we're looking for and has taken more than expected to hire the rest of the engineers. 

Coderio's one area of opportunity is to improve their bar and recruitment process to attract more qualified engineers for senior roles. The team's junior and mid-level engineers are very aligned with our requirements.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Being clear about the expectations on both sides and putting all requirements and expectations in front from the beginning of the relationship is fundamental to having a successful relationship. Coderio is open to hearing feedback and adjusting requirements at any given moment. I recommend having any conversation or negotiation because the team will be open to hearing your ideas.

We only worked with one developer from Coderio. The team offered three additional administrative roles in case we needed extra support.

We started talking to Coderio in June 2023, and our project concluded in February 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The resource provided by Coderio had a high technical level and capacity, which was what we were looking for. 

How did Coderio perform from a project management standpoint?

Coderio had positive project management. The team made a great effort to allocate a resource with a good technical level, adjusting to our budget and offering competitive prices that matched our country's market. Our communication was smooth via Zoom and email. The team contacted me via WhatsApp for urgent matters. We communicated via Microsoft Teams with the developer, who worked under a DevOps development lifecycle.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to highlight our developer and Corina's (Head of Delivery Management) work.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Initially, I was impressed with Coderio's management and communication process to achieve the contract and provide the resources, which was very valuable. Additionally, the monitoring of the developer's performance and the search for customer satisfaction was very positive on Coderio's part.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Initially, I had to talk to several teammates from Coderio, and communication became difficult because I had to respond to the same questions three times to different people. However, they made the necessary corrections once the problem was identified and discussed with the team.

I recommend communicating to Coderio clearly what your expectations and needs are to achieve the project's objectives.

I was working on a digital transformation project for an end client as an external consultant and hired Coderio_ to develop a mobile application and a website. I was helping my client's chief transformation officer to put in order the company's digital transformation program.

We initially shared with Coderio our design idea for our mobile app, which is for iOS and Android. Coderio_ uses Flutter as a coding language and has developed a website for it, too.

What is the team composition?

We started working with around eight teammates from Coderio_, and our team has grown as the project progresses. We've requested more resources to accelerate the development of the new digital channels and have ended up working with a team of 12 professionals. Our team includes Coderio_'s project manager, who has been promoted to key accountant. We also work with Coderio_'s COO and CIO.
How did you come to work with Coderio_?

One of my end client's directors recommended Coderio_ for this project. We wanted our mobile app to be coded using Flutter language, and selected Coderio_ because they're a service provider specialized in Flutter.

We spend around $30,000–$35,000 monthly with Coderio_.

We started working with Coderio_ in July 2023, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We use Coderio_'s work to show the other areas of the end client's company how we want teams to work. Coderio_ is the first team in the company to work using Agile methodologies. We've been able to develop two new products, which is a historical record for my end client to develop this kind of project in months instead of years. 

Coderio_ has deployed the end client's new website and mobile app last month. However, we don't have impact metrics in terms of numbers. The end client's company used to have several teams dedicated to app and web development projects, and working with Coderio_ has allowed us to unify our development projects into one team. We're confident that this project will greatly impact my end client's savings. 

How did Coderio_ perform from a project management standpoint?

We've requested Coderio_ to increase the project's scope or reduce time, and the team has been open and understanding of our change requests. We have frequent communication and weekly meetings with Coderio_'s team to catch up about the project and give us feedback on what is working.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Coderio_ is always available and open when we've requested the team to work on weekends or overtime to achieve certain milestones. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing Coderio_ can improve is collaborating with my end client's company's employees to act as one team. Our goal is for the work to be as if the same team has developed it, and that's the part we need to improve in order to show we're one team and not just a provider. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I suggest hiring Coderio_ for anyone looking for a company specializing in Flutter. I also recommend requesting the team to work in Agile methodologies and mixing the team with internal resources. It's important to ask Coderio_ to help develop internal resources regarding technical abilities and knowledge so that knowledge remains inside the client's company and does not always depend on a vendor to make these kinds of projects.
