We did a 90 day sprint to take over an unfinished project and complete the project. The goals were to deliver a working web and mobile application in financial services industry. Main goals were to take api feeds from several independent providers, aggregate the data, parse the data and place the parsed data through Large Language models. 

The output would be displayed in web and mobile applications for general public use and paid subscribers. Therefore this project included UX/UI to create full working website and mobile apps.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Web application was launched live and is currently working 24/7/365. Site has been rigorously tested but users around the country and has not been taken down since launch. We have already put in production a second version and about to release a third version.

The team was continuously available on Slack, with every member logged in to the application. Project was split between engineers and UX/UI experts. Each worked on own tasks but helped each other when there were crossover issues. There was also a project manager for scheduling sprints, logging issues and meeting deliverables. Response times, work ethic, quality of work was all excellent.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Code and Cakes really focussed on the clients needs in all ways. First, we scoped the project together to set budgeting, timing of deliverables and identifying core engineering challenges to be solved for our unique application. Then project timeline and resources were set and in all cases timelines were hit, and no extra resources or surprised costs were needed to achieve the objectives. 

Finally, Code & Cakes exhibits the highest level of engineering skills to solve fairly sophisticated AI and LLM tasks. Very proud of this group.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Code & Cakes could have done differently?

They should not be afraid to ask if more resources are requested by the client in order to finish a certain task more quickly. In our case, we were very happy with the timeline, but in a bigger project maybe the client would accept more resources in exchange for faster results if that discussion were had. But generally resources that are brought in are not as knowledgeable as the current team on the project and the team I had was at the highest level of knowledge. Thus, I preferred to work with just the assigned team.

We hired Code&Cakes to help us quickly build and launch a first MVP of AiSDR, which we narrowed down to 3 tasks: 

1. create emails via GPT-4 API, 
2. send and read emails via Gmail API, 
3. get leads from HubSpot via API. 

Overall timeline to launch was 3-4 weeks. Code&Cakes did a stellar job, shipping a working product in time, which allowed us to start selling to customers. We have later extended our engagement and started working with them to integrate with LinkedIn and other data sources via API, rebuild our product UI and UX and launch multiple high complexity features. Code&Cakes always delivered high quality product in time.

The team was handed our designs from Figma and tasked with turning those visuals into a working system. They had to handle the front-end, part of the backend, and essentially bring our designs to life. The big goal was getting a solid MVP up and running. This wasn't just a basic MVP; it was packed with tons of tricky and reactive components. 

They also set up CI/CD processes, making sure we could roll out updates and fixes smoothly, very handy. To sum it up, here’s what they delivered:

• MVP: They took our Figma designs and built a working MVP with all those complex components. They implemented it exactly how we envisioned, resulting in a stable, bug-free app.
• CI/CD Setup: They got CI/CD going; updates and patches are way smoother now.
• Follow-ups and Fixes: They didn’t just ghost after the MVP was done. They’ve been on call, sorting out issues and keeping things running smooth.

In short, they did a killer job. They took our designs, made them work, and kept things tight with updates and fixes. Super happy with how it all turned out and looking forward to working with them again!

Overall, they were very reliable, transparent, and excelled in timing and project management. Code-and-cake planned and tracked progress transparently. They mostly stuck to their timelines, and it was straightforward to track progress—even when there were occasional delays. What's cool is their flexibility in quickly adjusting engineering resources as needed. They used Jira for tracking and provided daily updates on Slack.

The most impressive is how integrated they felt with our team. Working with them didn’t feel like we outsourced a task to an external agency. Instead, it felt as if they were an extension of our own engineering division.

What sets them apart is their proactive approach. They don't just blindly execute tasks. They actively engage, question our proposals, and even disagree when they see a better solution. This kind of dialogue is invaluable, and it's precisely the kind of interaction I expect from our own engineers. 

A particular instance that really stands out to me is when they recognized that a section of the code could be optimized further. Even though we hadn't raised any concerns, they proposed a refactor, realizing that their previous design could be improved. They went above and beyond, focusing on delivering the best possible product. It wasn't just about ticking boxes for them; they genuinely cared about the quality of the work, just like our own team would.

We spoke to many different vendors, and Code & Cakes proposed the best plan for the project at hand, and was able to discuss potential issues and details at a level higher than the others that we were considering. They use the latest tech, and seem very much in the startup game so understand what it means to make lean MVP products, and not get bogged down with old enterprise technologies!

We launched the first version of the backend within weeks, and added multiple new features and improvements on a weekly basis.

They were able to create a working prototype for each scope of work within days, sometimes within 24 hours. We worked on fast iterations which helped us keep things lean and add functionality quickly when we needed it. Used Slack, Trello, Loom and others to keep in touch.

They feel like part of your startup, and know how to make a lean solution very quickly. They will challenge your initial vision to make sure that you build only what you need to validate your idea, and will make each feature work within days.

We interviewed many SW development providers but none were able to give us a clear answer as to how the architect could look like to accomplish our goal. They all wanted to start with a 'clickable surface's, without being able to ensure they could complete the actual required functions.
