I contacted Citrin Cooperman to consult with partner Lucy regarding asset protection planning, after hearing her mentioned on The Diary of a CEO podcast. The firm's Private Client Services advertises estate planning, trust planning/reviewing trusts, and asset protection—aligning with my needs.

Initial contact with assistant Ian: He additionally offered tax return review and scheduled a January 21, 2026 virtual session. Two meeting links were sent (10-10:30 AM and 10:30-11 AM) without clear start time or reminder. I joined at 10 AM but was not admitted; emailing Ian clarified 10:30 start—wasted time from poor communication.

In the session, Lucy engaged directly. I stated early: I seek a "good person" first (CPA or attorney) who prioritizes client best interests over greed or selling unwanted services. Regrettably, the experience felt sales-focused.

She declined substantive asset protection discussion without my tax return (unlike other professionals). Assistants handle tax returns; limited guidance on promoted services.

Post-session communication solely through assistant John. Uploaded docs for quote: Tax prep fee ~10x my current CPA's. Justification vague ("large firm, accurate returns"). John appeared much younger/less experienced than my CPA (and me), yet fee could consume most/all of a typical refund. $375/hr for other matters.

Declined tax return services, requested 30-min asset protection follow-up—denied. Emailed Lucy and John detailing disappointment with communication, pricing transparency, and approach. No response from either.

This raised concerns over communication (assistant-only follow-up, no direct from Lucy), pricing value given experience level, and match to advertised services. Potential clients should verify expectations carefully.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Frustration, dissappointment, waste of time

Poor communication. Lucy never communicates via emial. her two assistants (Ian and John did. She doesn't reply to emails even I sent her one. They did not resond to my need at all they tried to get what they want and I said no.

How poor the communication I had with her assistant Ian to book a virtual consultation, no confirmations, no emails about the change of time,

They do not offer what they say they offer. Only tax service no Private client services (estate planning, life insurance, trust planning, reviewing trust...none of those you see on their website)

They sell what they wanna sell, doesn't matter what you need to them

Are there any areas for improvement or something Citrin Cooperman could have done differently?

Pricing, communication, they need to consider client's over their greed, they are not professional they ignore your message once they think you are not useful (Lucy)
