Project was broken down into multiple milestones as a means to measure progress.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

First of all, I was a single member micro startup developing a full-scale web application. I spent over $30,000 of my own money for them to develop my web application. But I'm almost positive that Capital Numbers, who works with many large-scale Fortune 500 companies, wasn't really the best match for me. So, I can't recommend them for micro businesses. 

A 4-month project took 1.5 years to complete! I will take some blame, but there were many issues from CN regarding delayed delivery, communication (or PM's flat-out ignoring or even caught lying to me), quality assurance, proper requirements gathering, contract-related issues, etc...etc. By the end, I think we were both tired of each other and waiting to move on. 

Overall, I did have a great experience with two (out of four) of my former Project Managers Sujan and Moin. They were very responsive and went above and beyond to develop and deliver my project. I hope CN improves their processes and wish them well going forward!

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I've learned that a good PM can really make all the difference! I liked working with a Sujan and Moin as they were very good in communicating. Sujan, even gave me his personal number. Anytime I had an issue, we would talk about it, and it would get solved. He anticipated my needs and provided suggestions that helped my project move forward. So, I would say that Capital Numbers did a great job in hiring a couple of project managers that provided a personalized experience.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Capital Numbers could have done differently?

A bad PM can also really destroy your mindset. I felt that CN numbers didn't do the best job in selecting a couple of the other PMs. Gladly, they no longer work there! There were times I felt ignored for weeks and began to worry that my project code was never going to be delivered. That was scary! Unfortunately, it was a hit or miss when being provided a good PM.

We needed a new website to be published within a certain time limit. It included helping us finalize designs for the website, correcting and updating errors on the dummy website, and developing the back end and front end of the website. As well as making sure everything works once published.

Communication with updated revisions of the design, fixing errors according to our feedback and seeing those designs applied to the dummy website.

The project overrun a couple weeks after when we'd like to be finished. The team was sometimes slow to reply to us with updated versions, even though the work was done. After publication Jag and the team was very quick to make changes and tackle errors on the live website.

The only areas of improvement I want to mention is , making sure that they understand what we are trying to say and implementing it successfully.There was a lot of unnecessary back and forth which wasted some of our time because the deliverables were not as we had described them or what we had asked for, so they had to go back and fix it.

We needed to enhance the app and develop more functionalities. We thought about this idea during the COVID-19 pandemic to help people who didn’t have access to doctors.

The application was already live on the Google Play Store and App Store. We’ve worked with Capital Numbers to enhance it, build more functionalities, and fix some bugs.

The app is for Android and iOS; it allows users to make an appointment with any doctor, chat, and have video calls with them. Providers can also advertise themselves on the app so that people can find health and well-being products.

Capital Numbers has done a wonderful job. Anyone downloading the application can feel that the functionality is better than before.

I’m the project manager, so I do most of it. However, Capital Numbers has someone coordinating on their side, and they’ve provided the technical support that we need.

We typically communicate through Slack and Google Meet. Additionally, we use Trello for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They put the customer first and have great resources.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could manage the expectations better to ensure we understand exactly what’s in question and reduce the rework.

I am the founder of a startup trying to create an online web based coding bootcamp that's affordable and flexible for career switches trying to get into the tech industry.

For what projects/services did your company hire Capital Numbers?

My company was in the very early stages of a startup and I had just created very basic napkin wiremocks. I was looking to hire UI/UX designers to take those napkin wiremocks and create fully skinned design assets that I could hand off to an engineering team to complete.

How did you select this vendor?

I looked at a few companies on clutch that offered UI/UX services. After talking with a few of them as well as considering their previous works and rates I decided on Capital Numbers.

I had created the basic napkin wireframes, color palette, as well provided slides and data on basic user research. We went over the in an initial discussion the goal of the product, the user flows, and the customer I am building the product for. After they advised me to create and finalize my logo prior to starting to get a better picture of the theme of the site.

They gave me a survey to fill out on what I wanted from a logo and helped me come up with a few options with which I chose a design which I was satisfied with. After finalizing the logo, they proceeded work on the Home Landing page where they gave input on design and layout. We continued working through the slides through 3 different user flows and finished the UI/UX.

I worked with 4 resources + 1 other resource briefly for the logo:

I believe Sangita did all of the work, but the others were there at meetings and discussions to make sure designs were going the right direction and built the right way.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

With the UI/UX designs in hand, I have a clickable prototype that I can use to hand off to engineers with which they can use to work on. It was a success for me. They were also able to provide me with some basic stock images that they used in their design which they gave me licenses for, which was appreciated.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

I enjoyed working with Abhijit, he was a good project manager. He often understood what I was trying to say when describing why I wanted elements designed a certain way. He was also good at checking in to make sure I was satisfied with the work and pace that they were working at. They also had a Teamworks account in which they logged work and hours; although we did not use it much to track stories it worked out for me.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I think they had a decent process setup with Teamwork and transparent in their work. They were also accommodating when it came to having video meetings to discuss and iron out questions they had. I was glad that they were willing to put in the time to ask questions and give their input instead of following what I said blindly.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I think they could have tried to understand the product and customer a bit more. They could have looked at competitors and played around with the user flow of comparables that I gave them.

The Capital Numbers team has frontend development experience working with JavaScript, React, Vue.js, CSS, HTML, and Liquid. The resources have been helping us build various e-commerce websites and plug-in features for our clients. They’ve also helped us fix bugs and measure page-loading speed. Additionally, they’ve helped us brainstorm collaborative solutions to build new features.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We measure their success based on their ability to deliver on our tasks and requirements. Since I’m a developer, I review their code daily, and 95% of the time, they’ve used best practices to approach their tasks. I also compare the quality of the code with the time it took them to complete it, which is typically good. Furthermore, their code is well-written and easy to follow.

How did Capital Numbers perform from a project management standpoint?

Capital Numbers has executed a clear and easy onboarding process. The project manager uses Teamwork to communicate and assign daily and weekly tasks, which is helpful. They’re very communicative via phone and Slack, and we meet via Zoom. 

They also provide daily reports detailing the code they worked on, which helps our team pick up where they left off and vice versa. Overall, I’ve been impressed with their project management system.

Their biggest strength is their development expertise. Capital Numbers is very experienced with Shopify and frontend development.

It would be great if they could have more resources with equivalent expertise to help us with projects simultaneously.

The key to success is to engage a technical specialist to help with the project or assign an internal staff member with technical know-how to interpret and understand the developers' work.

My site is Wordpress based with a custom theme and a number of third-party plugins. I recently extended the functionality of the site with an advanced event plugin. However, the out-of-the-box styling did not match my theme. To enhance the user experience, I asked CN to update the styling and add some site functionality to promote new events for my members. This is expected to drive user engagement, increase the LTV of each paying member, and increase the value proposition to potential new members.

I had experience with Capital Numbers in the past. They truly went above and beyond for me during a very difficult time during the pandemic. I had an introductory call with my account manager to explain my needs. The team assured me they had the skills and availability to complete the project. Based on that conversation and my past experience, I initiated the project.

The scope involved: Formatting theme files to fit multiple custom post types, formatting archive pages, changing static files to account for new post types, and doing other light styling.

We had a project manager and at least two other professionals, one of which was focused on design and styling and the other on development. The team works together seamlessly, so I don't feel like I need to track or know too much about each individual's role. I see CN as a whole team and the project manager makes everything easy.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I will be launching these improvements soon. However, I expect them to increase attendance at my events, which is good for both sales and retention of my subscribers.

We communicated on a TeamWork site, using the messaging function and the comment areas of the tasks to communicate. This allowed us to keep conversations focused on one topic at a time and allowed me to see the progress of the project.

I run a small business, so I don't have a huge development budget. Their team was very flexible, allowing me to do small projects one at a time. This fits my budget and allows me to make tangible progress on the most important priorities.

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

Initially, we were unsatisfied as the project had been delayed many times. The delays were caused by changes in the project manager responsible for our project as he moved to another company, and with new project managers in place that weren’t aware of the scope of the project and what was promised from their previous colleagues, there was confusion about the features and functionalities included, which caused us to be billed for work that was supposed to be included in our initial quotation for the work.

However, upon reaching out to the management team, they have worked with us to resolve the issue and fix any discrepancies in the billing. They have also went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied with the resolution and were given work according to our expectations.

How did Capital Numbers address the challenges that arose?

They reached out to understand our perspective and where our disagreements stemmed from, and did everything in their power to resolve the matter and provide us with a satisfactory resolution.

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.

Through working with CapitalNumbers’ management team to resolve any issues that arose during development, we are satisfied with the work and with having them as partners for our software development needs.

How was project management handled?

There were disagreements that stemmed from having 3 different project managers throughout the course of our project who each had a different style of management, however CapitalNumbers did their best to resolve the issues that arose and ensure we were satisfied with the end result.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

The vendor did their best to reach out when any confusion or dispute arose and listen to our side of the story, and meet our expectations.

In what specific areas can they improve?

One area we think CapitalNumbers as well as all software development agencies can improve on is having more clarity around the scope, requirements, and functionalities of a project so that there is no confusion through the course of the process as to what was included and what wasn’t as part of agreement in the initial quote.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

My advice is before working with any agency, to ensure you have clarity on your needs, requirements, features, functionalities, design, and all aspects of your project so you can refer back to them if any disagreements happen between you and your service provider.

They could honor their agreements when quoting a price for a full end-to-end software development project, and not try to squeeze clients for every penny by constantly upselling or charging for fixes in the software due to bugs caused by poor development in the first place.
