Previously, our company used a WordPress site which was slow and prone to bugs. I contacted Andrew at Buglelab in 2021 asking him to build us a new site. After extensive discussions about our particular requirements, Buglelab were able to build us a stable, fast static site with convenient CMS integration which allowed me (a non-technical user) to make edits to content, giving us the flexibility we needed to customise our site without sacrificing on performance.

Since the site was first implemented, I have worked closely with the company as they continue to make enhancements and build new modules for the site. Their support is quick to respond and always happy to help.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Our site is now very fast and stable with a level of customisation which allows for easy edits.

Project management was good. We had a dedicated Slack channel with our project manager, the lead developer and other technical staff where I could raise any questions. A Trello board was also set up where all tasks where tracked allowing me to keep a close eye on project timelines. Deadlines were always met in a timely fashion.

Their willingness to listen to my requirements and come up with inventive solutions to meet those requirements

Are there any areas for improvement or something Buglelab could have done differently?

While their support is very good and they are always willing to offer help, there was initially some confusion about what was and was not included as free support after the project was finished. Perhaps it would have been useful if they offered explicit support packages of different tiers which would be available upon project completion.

I am the CEO of the Lifescape Project, a non-profit working on environmental issues.

For what projects/services did your company hire Buglelab, and what were your goals?

Our goal was to have a well presented and highly functioning website.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Bugle Labs has a strong track record of producing well presented and highly functioning websites, so was an easy choice for us.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Bugle used a web design tool to build us a website, which we are able to amend ourselves via a separate platform, Forestry. They are shortly migrating us to a new platform. It was a website build from nothing, including a complex mapping feature to present where our work occurs, and features such as contact us forms, donate buttons, etc.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Three or four members of the team worked with us. Andrew himself provided invaluable experience and a helicopter view of all relevant issues, while his design and build team provided seamless service to develop the website itself.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have no measurable outcomes as such, but the website is clearly superior to what we had before and puts us at the forefront of our peer group.

We used a staged approach including: building the concept together, first build and feedback, second build, and then final tweaks at a later stage after a soft launch. Slack was used for communication.

They gave us a user-friendly, professional, and highly functioning site that our users love, developed with maximum efficiency.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not really!

I'm the chief community officer at a Layer 1 blockchain protocol.

What challenge were you trying to address with Buglelab?

Our website’s CMS was complicated and didn’t allow for many of the capabilities we thought it would.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Buglelab has helped us manage our CMS in a different way. In the beginning, they helped us make changes to some of the CMS schemes. They added options, updated the structure of the pages, and moved blogs from point A to point Z. 

From then on, we’ve handed them all the work we could. We have an incredible development team in-house, but they deal with building the Layer 1 protocol, and they don’t have the time to deal with our website or CMS. 

Buglelab has created an event page on our website and a new page showing a running video. They’ve added themes, created new blogs, changed ads, and added tags to our blog section so we can tag blog posts according to how we want to sort them. 

They’ve set up the CMS to reflect changes we make to the website. They've opened up completely new options for our website. We’re now able to build a new web page on our website. They’ve also created documentation, including a tutorial on building a new page, working with new blogs, setting new tasks, and adding new videos to the website. 

What is the team composition?

In the beginning, there were three people, but then we ended up working with Andrew (Founder) and Fazla (Senior Frontend Developer), who is an incredible developer.

How did you come to work with Buglelab?

Our CMO found them on Upwork. They were the only agency he spoke to, and their reviews were pretty high. They were quick to respond, and their pricing was very competitive. They knew exactly what we wanted, so we decided to try them out.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $5,000–$6,000, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s doubled by next year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in March 2022, and it’s an ongoing partnership.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Buglelab has been fantastic. They’ve totally transformed our platform into what we want. They’ve overperformed and made our CMS so simple and clear. Thanks to them, we have new capabilities on our site. Their tutorial saves us the time it would take to walk a new teammate through processes. They’ve really done incredible work for us.

How did Buglelab perform from a project management standpoint?

Communication is key for us based on our previous experience with developers. Buglelab’s communication is perfect. They are very honest; Andrew is a man of his word. There have been two misunderstandings of the scope of work resulting in Buglelab, unfortunately, needing to complete 40 hours of unexpected work. They still did the same incredible work without asking for more money or pushing back the delivery date. 

They always communicate bugs or information they need. They will hop on a Zoom call with us, even on Sundays, which is incredible. They use a project management tool similar to Jira, and after a meeting or Zoom call, they create tickets. They don't just mark tasks as done; they wait for us to approve them before Andrew closes the ticket. We also use Slack for communication.

They’ve created new web pages for us within a short timeframe.

What did you find most impressive about them?

From the first moment we've spoken with them, they've understood what we've needed. There is no miscommunication; their timeline, scope of work, and capabilities are very clear. I haven’t heard of something they can’t do yet. If their team was bigger, it’d be better for the whole world.

We have some good and bad experiences, but they’re on top of the game and they deserve credit; Otherwise, I wouldn’t spend 20 minutes leaving them a review. They’re very honest and very quick, and their prices are incredible.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’re awesome. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I'd recommend that anyone with website or CMS needs try them out. It’s easy to explain to Andrew and Fazla what you want. They can speak with you in a technical language, but they can also speak to you in layman’s terms. They’ll do things you thought were impossible and make sure you’re happy with their work.
