I am the Marketing Director of a Managed IT and Cybersecurity Company based in Los Angeles and I was tasked to do a re-brand as well as launch a new website for our company.

We have worked with different web firms over the last couple of years, and realized that we were not getting the full potential out of our website and wanted to focus on a new direction, especially since our business works with other businesses and not direct to consumer.

The scope was an entire rebrand of our website, truly starting from scratch with new ideas on design and concept. We wanted to make it seamless for our old and new customers to see what our offerings were without all the boring details they might not care to see. We also wanted to make it easy for anyone on our team to be able to edit the site as we saw fit later down the line, so they made it very seamless for us.

What was the team composition?

I worked with about 4 different team members depending on where we were in the project, which actually made it seamless. I knew who I would work with in design to content to technical and it was easy to work with everyone.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within a week of our new site launching we already have a couple different potentially large sales leads that we have meetings with.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Extremely effective! The tools they use for content editing and testing were fabulous and easy to use. No problems at all.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I loved their professionalism, their creativity, and their thoughtfulness. We have a lot of people on our end with varying opinions, but they were able to work with us and really make everything come alive. They are also extremely fast in response time to any question we may have, which I really appreciated.

I am the founder and CEO of SolusGuard. We provide wearable and software safety solutions to help companies keep their employees safe. I am also the founder and CEO of ORA, which is a personal wearable safety device company for consumers.

At the time we were creating a new B2B company as a pivot from our B2C company. We needed assistance with creating a brand that was completely unique from our B2C company. This was harder than one would think, because we had been so focused on consumers and what they needed. It was imperative that we created a brand/logo/presence that was properly geared to the B2B market.

We didn't feel we would be objective enough nor creative enough to create a unique enough brand. After the initial brand and website design, we engaged Bop in digital marketing strategies. Although we had some success with our consumer company, we wanted a much deeper and more sophisticated approach to our B2B company than we could do ourselves.

What were your goals for this project?

Firstly the creation of a new, unique brand that clearly communicated our differentiation. Secondly, ongoing digital marketing support to close internal gaps.

How did you select this vendor?

First we searched for B2B tech marketing companies. They came on top of Google results as #1. That was key for us. If a company wasn't ranked #1, how could we expect that they could get us to #1?! We narrowed our search to 3 companies 1 in the USA and 2 in Canada. From there we reviewed their products and services, the results they had with other companies, etc.

We selected BOP for a number of reasons, primarily because of their ability to clearly demonstrate successes they've had with other companies. Also because they specialized in this area.

I’m one of the co-founders of Quertle. We’re a search engine for the biomedical field that has operated for nine years. We use AI to direct people towards published information immediately. We employ visualizations to help people understand and an exploratory feature.

What challenge were you trying to address with Bop Design?

The website was my attempt to learn WordPress, so it wasn’t necessarily the best product and wasn’t working.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bop Design developed a corporate WordPress website for my business. Their team went through the website and used the existing template from our previous website to build the new one. We spoke with them a lot and worked with their team on content. They also directed SEO, coming up with images and an outline to implement on the website. Their team created a platform that flows nicely, and all the important content’s done multiple times. They implemented sliders and images. Now, folks know how to use the site and how to request demos of our products. We did go to an individual to create the front page, but Bop Design did a lot of work.

What is the team composition?

We interacted with a number of different people, probably about five different individuals. There were more people on the backend team who helped us.

How did you come to work with Bop Design?

The woman who helps us with our social media presence searched for the best agencies and contacted Bop Design, which sent an original proposal to her. We interviewed four different companies and picked Bop Design because they seemed to have a proven step-by-step process to get what we needed: people to click through and interact with the website.

How much have you invested with them?

The project cost $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We signed the agreement at the end of March 2018. The project started around April and the site launched in October 2018. If we hadn’t been so picky to find the perfect front page, the website could’ve been released a month earlier.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We started announcing the website in October and into early November. After the launch, website traffic doubled. In October, we had one real request from a user for a product demo. In November, we had 19 qualified leads. I was blown away—it was amazing.

How did Bop Design perform from a project management standpoint?

They had their own system, working on different versions at the same time. We struggled to find an image for the front page, but Bop Design worked with us as we went back and forth. Their team was well organized and responsive. Everyone that we interacted with was knowledgeable and professional. They’re a great company that managed the project well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team has proven mechanics and processes for building a good website. They were really able to help us out as we went through the project. When we gave ideas, Bop Design not only made recommendations but also told us why. Multiple people were able to provide research to support their suggestions. Their team was on the ball. They stood out a cut above others because their team knew the best way to do what they do.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They had a version of the website for us to look at and make changes. And then they had the official developers version, which was not in the same location. That confused us, trying to figure out how the developers would access the changes. That could be fine for some but we’re used to coding. It would’ve gone smoother and faster if we had had one place where we knew when we made a change that a developer would see it.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to have your own research done. We had to write what we needed because you can’t wait for them to come up with everything. But, when they have an idea for a modification, I would recommend letting them go with it. They’ve done this for a long time and provide great ideas. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Don’t even think of it.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our website using WordPress. We also use them for ongoing marketing help as an extension of our marketing team. Once the initial agreement was kicked off, their head of business development communicated it to their creative manager. It reassured me that they were really listening to what I had to say and what I wanted to accomplish, rather than just trying to pitch me. It felt very unique and tailored to my needs. They also did a rebranding of our logo and our branding.

I worked with the creative director/project manager, two copywriters, a designer, and a developer.

I did my own research for agencies that specialize in developing B2B marketing sites. I had a list of several and reached out for interviews. Bop Design stood out to me for their professionalism, listening skills, and ability to understand what I was trying to accomplish. They made really good sense of it and translated it to an implementation plan. They sent me a package outlining everything, which gave me confidence.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

There set out a clear path of how the process was going to work. All my ideas and my visions were incorporated and brought to life in a really great way. As a result, we hit the markers and launched the site. The backend of the website is probably one of the best ones that I’ve seen built out and developed. It’s really clean, intuitive, easy to navigate. They also gave me a whole packet including a very extensive tutorial outlining how to use it for our team too. They’re really good at handholding the entire time and are really efficient. I really enjoyed working with them.

Even though we’ve been around for a while, Bop Design took our vision and helped us become a modern, refreshed, branded company. They went above and beyond my expectations and it shows. Since we look like a reputable company now, we’ve been getting a lot of inbound leads. Everything is consistent in terms of the visuals and messaging; our website, collateral, and emails are cohesive.

How did Bop Design perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was excellent. They were really receptive to my feedback and quick to turn things around. There was also some level of hand-holding throughout the whole process. I felt like I had my own remote marketing team, which was particularly nice.

We touched base weekly and had a constant back and forth, almost daily. After initial conversations, they spent 1–2 weeks developing the copy, which we then reviewed. We used email and they had an internal project management tool. They were available whenever I needed them or when I needed extra time. During the launch, everything was super organized.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their level of professionalism, organization, and content was really great. They were efficient, sending me material to review to make sure everything was okay. It made sure the project was tailored to my vision.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they did a really good job and are really good at communicating.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure you are as organized because they work in a waterfall effect. If one area isn’t approved and checked off on, they’re not going to move onto the next area. Make sure review dates are known well in advance and that you can get all things done in an efficient manner so deadlines can be met.

What challenge were you trying to address with Bop Design?

We were undertaking our fifth website redesign. At this point, we had a generic website using a plug and play template that functioned for us as a startup. Then, we realized we needed a more professional site, so we brought Bop Design in to help with content and overall design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They started off with a discovery phase that consists of an interview with my president and me. We discussed our vision and our goals for the site’s look and feel. In the beginning, I also gave them a scope document to guide their work. They’ve worked with us in the past, so they understand our tone, communication styles, and current messaging. From there, they put together a proposal, and we signed it to get started. 

Our old website was acting as a placeholder. They completed created a newly branded site for us in this process. Because we’re a staffing agency, we have a job board feature template that allows us to post jobs. Once we put the jobs on our website, they’re automatically uploaded to Indeed. That really sped up our process. 

Their team also collaborated with a copywriter, who interviewed us looking for keywords for each of our site pages. Ideally, that new content will help us with SEO on our current WordPress site. At the very end of the project, they always provide us with an employee handbook. If we have questions about making updates to the backend, for example, we can reference the book.  

What is the team composition?

Over the course of the project, I’ve interacted with at least five of their teammates. They definitely have a larger team working in the background, though. We deal directly with Emily (Project Manager, Bop Design) in our work with them.

How did you come to work with Bop Design?

Our relationship does back to 2015 when I started working at my current company. We’re a set of staffing and payroll companies, each with a specific purpose. When we were looking for a partner for our first website project, we had a very archaic site structure. It was important for us to be able to put everything we had into a WordPress platform. We did a Google search and reached out to companies that looked capable. 

I liked that Jeremy (Owner, Bop Design) took pride in ranking highly for SEM and SEO. In my search, they were the first result. That spoke volumes. I liked that they practiced what they preached. We hired them, knowing that they’d help us implement similar SEO policies as well.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $14,000 with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

This current project lasted from June–October 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We launched our website along with a press release and a few email campaigns. Based on our Google Analytics, we had surges of traffic increases and many more inquiries came in. In the last month, we received about 200 resumes to our site. Our website didn’t even have that functionality before this project.

How did Bop Design perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m always impressed with their team and never have any complaints. We’ve been working with the same project manager I’ve been dealing with for five years. Whenever I have questions, I can call the owner directly, and he makes sure everything is okay. He’s always checking in.

They don’t think of our project as crossing things off a list, they have integrity in their work. We’ve built a strong relationship. I know I can email anyone on their team and get answers to questions quickly. They communicate well to ensure that we are happy with the finished product.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re experts at practicing what they preach: ranking highly with SEM and SEO. They want their customers to be able to do this too, so they help us drive traffic to our websites. Their team was never prioritized their bottom line over making sure we were happy with their work. They truly listened to everything we had to say.

The team was very transparent about what they could and couldn’t accommodate with our budget. After having a negative experience with budgeting with a previous partner, this was a relief. They were also considerate of our time. Our discovery call was no more than an hour.

Even so, they perfectly understood our vision, returning to us with several design choices that were great matches for us. We honestly could’ve gone with any of the options they presented. Their integrity with their work really differentiates them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I could say is that I’ve noticed that their prices have increased over the course of our relationship. That’s to be expected, though. They’ve grown their business and headcount. At the end of the day, they’re still definitely worth the money we spent. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Voice your opinion if you have questions or concerns. They’re receptive to hearing anything you have to say. They might guide you into their best practices, but it’s their top priority to give you something that you’re happy with. So, don’t be afraid to provide them with honest feedback.

I interviewed several design firms and I was looking specifically for a robust team with experience and fresh ideas. After speaking with Jeremy, I felt confident that the Bop team would be able to handle our project and that the design would be modern.

We started with refining our concept and strategy together; I provided feedback and the team moved forward in the direction we wanted while being open to feedback and changes.

There was significant existing material in the form of product photos, descriptions, and an extensive video library. The Bop team helped present our existing material in a more attractive and modern way. They handled all of the technical elements and the creation of new materials.

Employee and client feedback to the new website was immediate and very positive. Members of our sales team immediately started using our new product pages in talks with prospective clients. Internally, there is a new sense of pride in our website. We definitely achieved the goal of elevating our web presence.

I loved that they always had an answer for me or would look into my questions immediately. I felt like everyone I spoke to on the Bop team was an expert in their area. There were times when we had delays on our end, but the Bop team was always understanding and warm.

I feel like some things might have been smoother if my initial RFQ had been referenced throughout the project. It can be a challenge to keep track of what I told who when the team is of this size, and some things might have gotten temporarily lost in the shuffle at some points.

I’m the senior marketing communications manager at Dell'Oro Group. We’re a market research company that targets the telecom enterprise networks and data center infrastructure market.

What challenge were you trying to address with Bop Design?

We were looking to redesign our website. The one we had was five years old at the time and needed updating.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bop Design updated our website’s WordPress CMS, structure, layout, and look and feel. It had a lot of good content, but we wanted to reduce the number of tabs—having too many causes people to lose interest. The structure was the most important element. We tried to evaluate what the website needed to provide a better user experience for finding products.
 
Another critical factor was lead generation, most of which was coming from our website. The site had a lot of limitations, such as insufficient action items and a long path to get to our request form. On the new website, we created more action items such as a “Contact Us” button floating on the homepage. People can also subscribe to our mailing list for the latest hot topics, and they can make requests for quotes on the product pages through the press of a button. We tried to get more engagement from our users and to provide them a better user experience when navigating our website.
 
We also updated our WordPress CMS. We can now add videos and articles and create event pages. People usually have questions about the coverage of our analysis program, so we’ve included this information under our “Meet Our Team” area. People can get to know more about our team, including their specialties and topic areas. We’ve also created a more prominent download button for market research reports and added a page to invite people to join our team. Lastly, the website is now responsive and will adjust itself to mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
 
What is the team composition?

The members of Bop Design that I interacted with changed depending on the stage. In the beginning, I worked with one of their project managers to lay out the plan. They put together a team for the design part. When we moved into development, I worked with one of their website designers to confirm the look and feel. 

I spent the most time with the web developers during the later stages. I also worked with their content manager on content and digital marketing.
 
How did you come to work with Bop Design?

I was looking for a web design company for my previous employer. I’d heard about Bop Design, but I’d never worked with them. I liked their approach, knowledge, and expertise, so I reached out to them for a proposal. 

Jeremy (Business Principal, Bop Design) gave me a very good impression. He was patient in listening to me, and he made a professional presentation. My previous employer didn’t choose them, but I reached out to them again for my current company. 

Among the several developers and website design companies I looked at, Bop Design gave me the best impression. Compared to some of the top web design companies in the industry, Bop Design provided a reasonable price and an excellent proposal.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Bop Design in July 2018, and the site launched in June 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The site took nine months to make, which was longer than we expected. The platform proved to have a more complicated structure than we thought in the beginning. The team didn’t understand our product structure in the beginning, and they didn’t know how the relations connected. This delayed our progress. We were planning to launch during the Christmas season, but we underestimated the difficulties. It still got done because Bop Design worked very hard to make it happen.

We still waited until June 2019 to launch it for internal reasons. As a market research company, we have a publication season, and we didn’t want to launch the new website during this period. Bop Design agreed to hold off until off-season to release it.
 
How did Bop Design perform from a project management standpoint?

The communication was straightforward and simple. Most of our work was on track, and Bop Design made sure we met our deadlines. They were also flexible and accommodated our requests, even though they had a lot of projects to handle.

Bop Design used BugHerd to communicate with us. They also have a live development version of the site with a tool through which I could make comments for adjustments. It showed the status of each task, the assigned team member, and the progress. I like the transparency of the process. 

In my experience, I always hesitated to use website agencies, as communication was very difficult. Bop Design provided me with a tool, and everyone was very patient.
 
What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s their flexibility. I’ve also enjoyed working with Bop Design’s web developers. This was a very frustrating project, but they managed to overcome our challenges and were patient throughout. They don’t mind spending an hour with me to listen to my questions and answer them. They reply to all the emails I send them.
 
After the website launch, Bop Design continued to provide services for us for a 30–60-day grace period. I appreciated that they stayed with me after the website launched and kept track of it. I also appreciated the aftersales approach with Bop Design.
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

The team could spend a bit more time evaluating the client’s website and think more deeply about it. As a client, if we’re very clear in the beginning, the whole process may be more straightforward, and no one will get frustrated and demand changes.

This criticism applies to all the web design agencies I’ve dealt with before, not just Bop Design. The client knows better than the agency what they want and what the problem is, and agencies also need to think deeper about website structures.
