I’m the founder and CEO of Manufacturing China LLC. We’re a B2B platform that lets users bookmark companies and invite them to bid on projects. I manage our software development.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Avezor Soft?

We wanted to build a web-based platform using Ruby on Rails.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I sent them a photo of a user workflow that I drew up by hand, and we began working together on the design. They completed some frontend work, but then started designing features that were outside of the scope of my project. I eventually had to look elsewhere for development services.

What is the team composition?

There were 4–5 designers and developers assigned to my project.

How much have you invested with them?

I spent approximately $2,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

They started working on the platform in February 2019, and by late March 2019, I was no longer working with them.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

At the outset, they were engaging and productive, and I was satisfied with their frontend design work. After a while, I started noticing discrepancies between their deliverables and the requirements I was giving them. As an attempt to fix the problem, they brought in another developer, and this changed the dynamic of the project.

Everything started to go downhill when the new team member joined. He convinced the team that they should build a completely different product based on something they’d previously made. They no longer listened to what I wanted and offered excuses about their timeliness. It seemed like they’d given up on building the platform I wanted.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?   

About halfway into the engagement, I hired a backend developer who served as an intermediary between Avezor Soft and me. Eventually, he gave up on communicating with them because they weren’t meeting deadlines. Although I wanted to keep them on for frontend design, they never circled back with me after the backend developer stopped working with them. They still haven’t responded to me, even though I prepaid for their services. I lost my money, and I’ve had to hire another developer to finish the work. 

How did Avezor Soft perform from a project management standpoint?

They handled project management well at the beginning, but it soon became apparent that they didn’t have a solid grasp of the logic of my platform. Their efficiency fizzled out, and they focused on building without really knowing my needs. The workflow I presented was simple, but they were unable to understand it. Eventually, they stopped listening to my concerns and tried to get me to agree to a completely different concept. We communicated primarily over Slack, and they were unresponsive towards the end of the partnership.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

The initial frontend designs were excellent. They delivered a listing page feature that hit all of my requirements. Overall, they have a good understanding of modern design techniques.

In what specific areas can they improve?

They need to work on delivering what they promise, communicating more effectively, and staying organized with their project management.
