Apptware was brought on to modernize and redevelop the SaaS user interface for our analytics platform. They took complete ownership of the frontend engineering lifecycle, transforming our legacy system into a high-performance, modern application. Key deliverables included:

• Frontend Redevelopment: Rebuilding the entire UI architecture from scratch using Vue.js for better scalability.
• UI/UX Implementation: Translating complex analytical workflows into clean, interactive, and intuitive data dashboards.
• Performance Optimization: Improving data rendering speeds, optimizing loading times, and ensuring seamless cross-browser compatibility.

Apptware has been involved in designing the delivery and deployment process of our mobile app from before the day it was first live. From then on, the Apptware engineers were involved as part of our internal development in the daily development of every feature of our mobile applications, based on React Native and containing native Android and native iOS components.

As Apptware has been involved to the core of our customer-facing mobile application from before the go-live, the general metrics of customer acquisition and customer satisfaction of our product can be pretty directly correlated to their technical output. We are not disclosing our very good numbers customer wise, but our app on the App Store and Play Store has among the highest ratings in its category within our local (German) market

The Apptware engineers were completely integrated in our development team, taking part in daily standups, etc. so their delivery can not be assessed separately from the team's. The possibility to work with them as part of team in itself speaks for their mindset and efficiency and the flexibility of both the engineers and the management made the project to deliver in such a way that that team has never been the bottleneck

We were impressed with the flexibility and simplicity of their processes and the capacity to provide in accordance to the needs expressed.

The only areas where it felt there was room for improvement were inherent to off-shoring (no personal contact, maybe time zone difference, ...) but precisely on this point, the engineers made up for it by their personality and mindset so that it was hardly a difference to an in-house team

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project was broken up into 7 sprints, where each sprint was aligned to a key deliverable. Our primary metric of success was completing code development and launching the MVP on-time. This metric was met successfully.

The project management was excellent. Monika, our project manager, anticipated needs and delays and course corrected behind the scenes. Apptware responded extremely well to challenges that emerged during the project and were fantastic partners to work with. All deliverables were either delivered on-time or earlier then expected.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Apptware is a truly agile organization with very talented developers who are independent thinkers and extremely proactive in getting their work done. The Apptware team members had many great ideas that were incorporated as user requirements for the MVP. In this way, they were active participants in the agile software development process.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Apptware could have done differently?

No, overall the Apptware team was excellent from start to finish. I could not have asked for a better experience and team to work with.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder of YOUnite. We’re a master data management and data governance platform in the enterprise space. We integrate multiple backend systems so that data is kept up-to-date from one system to another (examples include ERP, CRM, and human resources systems).

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Apptware?

They manage the user interface of our data governance web app. It connects with our backend API servers to showcase the functionality and features of the product. Technologies used include a React framework.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our company builds requirements to meet our customers’ needs, and then our customer does the deployment. Apptware handles all of our user interface work including visual design. The tool helps stakeholders understand the power of our product. It’s a demonstration tool more than a real user interface tool. For example, we use the user interface to show one of our large customers how to take advantage of the platform.

Using the UI of one dashboard, a stakeholder can remove a certain record from 50 systems or restrict personally identifiable information from going places. It’s a complex project as master records are different depending on where the system is accessed due to data governance laws (e.g. the master record for New York is different from Tokyo). 

What is the team composition?

On and off, there’ve probably been about seven people working on it consisting of developers and two UI designers. Harish Rohokale (Founder & CEO, Apptware) has been on the project the entire time.

How did you come to work with Apptware?

Harish was a staff engineer at another consulting company we were working with. He really saved the day on that project, and I wanted to keep working with him after that. 

He shined relative to the other developers, and he came in motivated by the right reasons. Within a few months, I knew he was going to be a superstar. I said, “You need to create your own company!” When he started Apptware, and we were his first customer. 

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve invested about $100,000 with Apptware. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September of 2018, and the partnership is ongoing. Now, we’re on a monthly sprint cycle. Apptware is currently adding more features, and they’re almost done refreshing the visual appearance of older pages.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Apptware has been immensely powerful in helping us demonstrate the capabilities of a fundamentally technical product. They’ve made a very technical product appealing and presentable. This has allowed us to focus on our core technology.

How did Apptware perform from a project management standpoint?

They were exceptional. They took the time to understand and think through the visual requirements, asked very relevant questions, and then offered suggestions on user interface flows. One of them developed all the CSS we used. They made the UI a lot more usable.

They follow whatever workflow we put forward. They work well in both waterfall and sprint styles. We use Jira and Agile— Harish is better at following our software methodologies than we are. He’s really conscientious and a very hard worker. 

Since he’s fairly young, there’s no way he could possibly have all the skills required to deliver full-stack solutions (the world of software is huge). So, the success of his company is based on if he can bring in the right people that he can trust. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Harish is an excellent communicator, very conscientious, and a very hard worker. I really mean it when I say that he is truly conscientious. He wants to make sure things are done well and done on time. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

He has brought in ineffective developers in the past. He’s had a couple of people that wasted everyone’s time. But, that’s really common, and you’ll see it time and time again. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Potential customers should have requirements squared away and regular communication. If you don’t have the right resources to manage the project, then don’t do it.
