SmartMedicsECG
The heart of the SmartMedics ECG system is the world's smallest 12-lead ECG. It is the first device of such a small size to offer hospital-grade ECG recording. Thanks to the additional leads, it is possible to diagnose a much larger number of heart conditions than holters, 3-lead ECGs, or even more so, 1-lead smartwatches ever could.
Pebble, as this inconspicuous yet powerful device is called, communicates with a mobile app using Bluetooth Low Energy. It was quite a challenge to ensure smooth real-time data streaming with the relatively low bandwidth of this data transmission technology. The received ECG signal is then processed to remove "contaminants" and this happens in real-time with low CPU load thanks to the use of a collection of highly optimized functions for digital signal processing and general-purpose arithmetic on large arrays.
It is possible to view the heart rhythm in real-time and also to save it in the smartphone's memory. Such a record can be shared with the doctor in the form of a PDF or EDF file.
The mobile application also provides several functions related to the management of patients and the tests performed on them. By using the cloud, it is possible to use the SmartMedicsEKG system for remote diagnostics. Patient data is stored according to the highest security standards.
One of the most interesting features is screen sharing during ECG recording - just by entering the email address of a doctor registered in the system, he or she can see the heart rhythm in real-time - no matter how far away he or she is from the patient.
Appotype is responsible for implementing each of the software components of the SmartMedics system, and these are the mobile app, the web app, and the cloud, where ECG records are stored and processed.

Wearable Stethoscope
This is the MVP version of the project, which currently remains in the so-called "Stealth Mode", so it would be crucial to demonstrate the solution's potential quickly and at a low cost. Although it's hard to believe, the entire app was developed in just 1 week! First, with the help of SwiftUI, we implemented a functional mockup that demonstrated how the finished app would look "in motion".
Then we implemented the business logic without making changes to the user interface. The business logic included communication via Bluetooth Low Energy, decoding the audio signal, processing it, and recording it to the device memory. The icing on the cake is the advanced audio controls: swipe to seek, play/pause, seek +/- 10s, seek start/end, and audio visualization for easy navigation through the recording.

Web scrapping tool
This practical tool allows you to browse the resources of the publicly available land registry database in an automated manner.

Playgrounds & Pitches
Wireless Value develops, produces, and sells products with which measuring values of sensors can be transmitted wirelessly to places where further processing and monitoring can take place. In that context Wireless Value has developed wireless products for measuring sports & play surfaces since 2008.
The previous application did not meet customer expectations, both aesthetically and practically. Therefore, Appotype designed and programmed a completely new application from scratch, working with as many as 4 different measuring devices.

Team by Appotype
Team by Appotype is a portal that is revolutionizing the way companies recruit IT professionals. Recruitment and body leasing (personnel outsourcing) were brought together in one place, and the whole thing was packaged in an intuitive web portal with a convenient search engine. Building the perfect team of programmers has never been so easy and fast.
Candidate profiles allow you to get acquainted with their professional experience, the technologies they use, the languages they speak, etc. even before you decide to cooperate.
Using the intuitive calendar, you can book the services of selected specialists or you can invite them to recruit if you are looking for someone for a longer cooperation.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I am a Product Owner at SmartMedics Sp. z o.o., which is a Polish med-tech startup founded in 2017 and located in Warsaw, Poland. We are developing a SmartMedics 12-lead ECG system designed for acquisition, recording and processing of electrocardiographic signals. A single ECG Patch integrates all the electrodes required for a full 12-lead ECG. The ECG Pebble is connected directly to the patch and records ECG data so it can be digitally transmitted via Bluetooth to a mobile device and then and then to a web app via the Internet.
For what projects/services did your company hire Appotype, and what were your goals?
Appotype has been hired to build a mobile application, a web application and to manage the cloud part. The SmartMedicsECG app and Cloud system is an integral part of the ECG Pebble medical device, which is part of the 12-lead SmartMedicsECG system. The purpose of the SmartMedicsECG mobile application was to connect to the ECG Pebble device via Bluetooth, view ECGs in real time, record ECGs, export results, and share the ECG screen with a medical professional. The purpose of the web application was to provide most of the functionality, such as managing created patient profiles, managing ECG measurements and exporting results. The web application is accessed via web browsers.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We searched online for vendors with previous experience on healthcare projects. We selected Appotype based on previous projects, experience and cost estimates.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
We had a kick-off meeting, where we presented the project's goal and the long-term vision of our SmartMedics ECG system focusing on the mobile app and Cloud part. The product backlog was a prioritized list of work for the development team, which resulted from the product vision and the roadmap. Due to the demand, we planned individual Sprints, placed an order that covered a particular Sprint. Our goal was to create a mobile application that would be available for most iOS mobile devices (iPhone and iPad) and support the latest and previous version of iOS. Our idea was also to create a web application in Flutter that includes most of the functionality of the mobile application and additionally exports data in .edf, .pdf and .bin formats. The assumption was also that the software must be scalable.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
There was one developer responsible for the implementation of the mobile app and the web app, and one developer responsible for the cloud part.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Our goal was to publish our mobile application in the AppStore. This is accomplished.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
We had daily stand-ups where we discussed progress on Sprint tasks as well as blockers if any. If there were any delays, they let us know in advance. We used JIRA to plan, coordinate and report their work.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
I liked that they tried to solve unexpected problems and adapt to the situation.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
No
