BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the head of R&D at Phillips Latin America, a health care company. We’re responsible for transitioning medical records into electronic medical records in Brazil.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with AMcom?

We needed to migrate our software from Java to HTML5, which was a large challenge. Our goal was to launch our local software to a worldwide audience.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

AMcom began by working on a pilot project. We later had them focus on software migration. After migrating the software to HTML5, their team worked on localizing our platform for several companies.

Now, AMcom’s working on a strategic project that involves software optimization. They’re building out existing software assets and functions. For example, we bought a solution from HP years ago. Their team’s now designing an up-to-date version.

What is the team composition?

In 2016, we had 23 people from AMcom working on our project and an additional person was added the following year. By 2018, we had 33 people from AMcom working with us and then 45 people the next year. In 2019, we had 45 people working with us. We work with software engineers, system analysts, and project managers from AMcom. However, I’m in direct contact with Andréia (CEO).

How did you come to work with AMcom?

We found them because AMcom’s a local company in Brazil.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend $100,000 per month on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2015 and have an ongoing partnership.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

AMcom quickly fixes bugs and delivers high-quality work on time. Their team’s professional and provides amazing support.

How did AMcom perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re in daily contact with their project managers and coordinators who monitor the projects. I talk with the team too. They're engaged, which is great especially for a team of 80. When there’s a deviation, we give them feedback on their performance. They then adjust.

What did you find most impressive about them?

AMcom effectively manages their team of really smart individuals. They also do a great job engaging with their customers. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I occasionally had challenges involving the rotation with the framework. For our medical device solution, we worked in a Waterfall methodology. At times, it was a little hard to locate them and tell them about important items.  

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s important that you initially engage with their top-level leaders. You need to have the best people on your team. You should have a weekly cadence for meetings with the team. Clearly define the scope and create short milestones. Be sure that they understand your expectations.
