I am the founder and CEO of Altrüus, a gift card giving platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with Zajno?

We want to create one global gifting platform and make the process more social and filled with emotion. The task was very challenging in terms of UX because we need to draw people into the app and engage within that platform to move away from the transaction-focused business, which is what the gift card industry has historically been.

When I first hired them, we needed their design skills, but since I was struggling to find good developers, I brought them on for that, too. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their team started with the superficial design, but we slowly moved into using them for more after seeing their work. I had an existing MVP that had been used to collect data from users, customers, and stakeholders for close to 20 months, and Zajno used this to ensure they understood the feedback and our needs. Using that information, they created a new UX/UI for the platform. They then moved into the development phase, using React Native to make it compatible with Android and iOS.

We worked mostly with Yegor (Co-Founder & COO, Zajno), Sasha (Founder & CEO), Palina (Lead Project Manager, Zajno), and a team of 12 other people.

How did you come to work with Zajno?

I reached out to them in 2015 and they really understood our vision.

How much have you invested with them?

We have spent around $300,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in June 2015 and the relationship is currently ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We just launched a new version of a platform that they had been developing for two and a half years. Last week we started onboarding businesses and acquiring users from the previous platform to the new one. The previous version of the platform has had very good metrics and it has allowed us to raise money and approach big clients because they were good enough to let me know that we’re perceived as a meaningful company.

When investors analyze our platform, they realize we are already scalable. We’re not close to having a Series A platform, but we already have the quality of one and it’s in no small part because of Zajno. 

How did Zajno perform from a project management standpoint?

Most of our meetings are over Google Hangouts, Zoom, or Slack. Palina is very responsive and replies immediately in an efficient and effective way to every request I have. They’ve been great at meeting deadlines and scheduling as well. They make the process enjoyable and they are passionate about what they do. They have performed incredibly well; it is truly amazing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve made me better just by working with them. They’ve been patient enough with me to not only deliver amazing work, but they’ve taught me the processes that they did to complete them. I was unaware of everything I needed to learn. They learn and improve from any challenges. I have seen them grow as a company from only three employees and they have always listened to my feedback to improve.

One time I didn’t explain correctly in-depth what the requirements would be and then they coded based on the misunderstanding. From this, they became better and learned how to work with me. They learned how to ask deeper questions to understand exactly what the requirements of the project are, to then provide me with precise quotes, estimates, and timelines.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their bandwidth could maybe improve to make sure they’re growing their team fast enough to accommodate the market. They are doing so many amazing things and they are getting more requests than what they are able to take on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Explain your vision in extreme detail. The more you can explain the user journey and the higher the quality of the data you provide to substantiate your claims, you’ll empower them to deliver amazing work. If you approach them in more of a discovery phase, they can coach you, but they produce their best work when you know exactly what you want. They will build the road that can achieve your vision.

The key deliverable was a best in class Web3 landing page that would provide individuals, enterprise, and investor level interest and confidence in our blockchain utility project. It was to be interactive, animated, crisp, interesting, professional, and visually appealing.

An excellent and professional website was delivered, on budget, as part of our collaboration.

The project from mood board to final installation took longer than Zajno anticipated, but not longer than we did. We were probably more content heavy than other sample websites we saw, and, we had a specific look and feel that was different than their sample websites.

That said, we stepped thru a very professional design-to-final-project management process. We had clear and crisp communication throughout the project. The project manager was excellent, very good at eliciting feedback and bringing our two organizations together.

Their interpersonal skills were amazing. They were very professional and competent.

While the project took longer than we had first anticipated, it was due to the amount of content we were looking to have resident in the site. I would say it was a learning experience for both organizations, and the ends fully justified the extra time to collaborate and get it done as professional as it was.

We wanted a website that combined the high-tech feel of Apple and its scrolling animations with our business in music promotion. We gave examples of reference with hopes that they understood the feel of what we were attempting to capture. We also aimed to create a dashboard where all artists were able to see immediate updates on all of their orders.

Zajno was able to take our references, our ideas, and the overall feel we were aiming for and made it into something we could have never imagined ourselves. The talent and detail they brought to our brand is something we are so grateful for, and it justified every dollar it cost.

The project over time got more complex, so we, as a team, had to push some dates further out. But that was a choice made by all of us. They are on time with everything whenever I'm not throwing more things at them.
