BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

Emsi Burning Glass is an independent software vendor. My title is Director of Engineering. I was responsible for the projects on which we used Virtual Mind developers.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Virtual Mind Infotech, and what were your goals?

We were building the first set of business applications on top of our Big Data system. The main challenge was to visualize the data using Logi Info tool and make sure the charts and graph load reasonably fast.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Two of my VM consultants ended up being key members of the development team. One showed himself as a proficient, smart and pragmatic data engineer who understands SnowFlake database very well. The other consultant became our lead AWS Lambda developer and ci/cd engineer.

Both my consultants participated in these steps:

architecture/tool selection/design
project effort estimation
development and test
performance optimization
continuous deployment to SaaS envs

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

as per above, I had 2 VM consultants, one being a data engineer and the other ci/cd and AWS Lambda developer

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We delivered both projects and generated some sales

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

We use classic Scrum practice with all the ceremonies, and Jira as our project management tool. Both VM consultants had good communication skills and we never late to meetings.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

VM found resources for me that were a perfect fit.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Continuous improvement of communication skills. I suppose that goes for all of us :-)
