TechVariable is our IT services and consulting company. We're working with them on a couple of things, mostly related to frontend development and data engineering.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’re currently working on two different projects with TechVariable, and our engagement has two different work models. On the one hand, they provide us with dedicated resources to work on specific projects. On the other hand, we have a monthly retainer contract, for which they provide us with one developer for ongoing support.

We assign tasks to the developer daily. After the developer finishes a code, he deploys it into our codebase. Then, we see how it works.

Currently, the developer helps us with JavaScript development, for which he uses ReactJS. As for the second project, TechVariable helps us with Python development for data engineering. Additionally, we've also received their support on machine learning.

What is the team composition?

On a regular basis, we work with one person from TechVariable, but we work with up to 2–3 other people when we have new projects.

We spend around $2,000–$3,000 per month. So far, we’ve spent roughly $35,000–$40,000.

We measure TechVariable’s quality and development speed. We’ve assigned them very specific tasks, and they’ve always delivered.

How did TechVariable Full Stack Development Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

TechVariable is always very proactive and responsive, and we haven’t experienced any delays from their side. On occasions, we’ve had to release a lot of the features simultaneously, so they’ve extended their support to the weekends.

For the monthly retainer, they don’t offer project management because we interact directly with the developer. For the fixed-scope projects, our project manager manages their resources as well.

We use Jira, Basecamp, and Trello for project management, so when TechVariable resources work on our projects, we add them to the same tools. We typically communicate through phone calls, Slack, and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

TechVariable’s understanding of our requirements is impressive, which is why we’ve continued to maintain a long-term partnership. They also provide us with a very good developer. Once we assign him a task, we always see their developer proactively understand it, translate it into technical requirements, and execute it.

There’s nothing that they could improve on at this point.

Be very specific about your requirements, and be very sure of what you're developing. If your scope is well defined, TechVariable would never miss the timeline that they promise.

I'm the owner of North-East India's largest private transport services, Network Travels.

We hired TechVariable to build us an end to end solution IT infrastructure for managing all activities related to bus ticket bookings by passengers and bus agents across 7 states. For almost 30 years, we had followed the traditional offline way of doing business, but gradually this posed multiple challenges.

Potentially a smaller number of officially booked tickets resulted in the client’s monetary and revenue loss of authorized agents, besides the negative branding of the company. So, the ultimate goal was the Digitalisation of the entire system. Their team built an Admin Panel, a Web Interface and an Android Application successfully.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

With totally automated processes in ticketing, using data for visualizing trends, digital marketing to enhance sales and reduced operational costs we, Network Travels are now able to take strategic business decisions in real-time and to expand into new territory.

Moreover, with robust review and feedback systems in place, we feel closer to our customer's heart and have been successful in instilling more trust in them.

The project management is just great. they regularly met deadlines and never has unexpected turnovers. Moreover, there is seamless and regular communication via Skype Calls, Jira and GitHub.

We have free, transparent and hassle-free communication with the entire technical team, which makes the entire experience smooth.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Though the web portal and mobile app have sound functionality while more up-gradation can be incorporated in the front-end to make it more appealing and enhance the user experience. I've told the project manager, and their team is working devotedly on this, now.

With the ever growing number of clients, besides the excruciating difficulty in management, it also became painstaking to provide personalized as well as focused service to each and everyone of our valuable customers. Another important point to consider was that the distribution of tasks associated with a customer, among the employees, needed to be very thought-through and equally distributed one. Tracking the assigned tasks also became a challenging proposition.

What were your goals for this project?

The proposed solution had to be such that micro-management of tasks and enquiries would become a thing of the past. An omni-channel platform needed to be built, where clients and services could be managed seamlessly. Also, user and role management had to be so robust that even the hierarchies within the team could be taken care of within the portal. Employee Performance was another thing that needed to be tracked through this solution.

We came across their profile on LinkedIN and was also referred by one of their clients, who in turn is one of our customers too.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

First, they built a dashboard where companies could be registered. Service and packages could be created from the dashboard and then assigned to a company. A company was then assigned to particular manager, account manager, team leader, etc. The assigned employees could then track their task and enquiries assigned.

For recurring services, task and enquiries got automatically created which was handled by a cron job. The whole system was hosted on a bare metal server where accounts were managed using a WHM cPanel. Apache was used as a proxy server. Modules Implemented: a) A robust User & Role Management, b) Company Management, c) Services & Package Management, d) Tasks & enquiries Management, e) Notification & Mail Management

What was the team composition?

The project team had three resources viz. one project manager, one frontend developer and one backend developer. The solution demanded the use of an Agile methodology, with weekly sprints.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The best thing about the delivery was that the team developed the system well before the scheduled completion time. As far as the solution is concerned, it has increased the Satisfaction Index from the client end by about 60%. Employee utilization has nearly doubled too.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project management was done in a very professional and transparent way. We were particularly impressed by their documentation framework, which clearly demonstrated details about the exact requirement, timeline, milestone management, change management etc. Also, the project manager was very clear on the what-if scenarios of the project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We could interact directly with the project manager at any time of the day, with our queries. Also, they made sure that the resources working in the project also interact with us regularly, creating a sense of trust. I was thoroughly impressed with their communication skill and relaxed approach towards a problem statement.

There's nothing in particular that I can point out now. Their excellent delivery is still fresh in our minds.
