Please describe your company and your position there.

Conahy Parish is one of many parishes in the Diocese of Ossory. I provide volunteering services to the Parish in a number of areas, specifically on this project covering technology and system development. With a dwindling number of Priests, the current Parish Priest required a system which would support his work with Parishioners in term of relevant church information and also in communicating news updates on Parish events on an on-going basis.

We engaged with Square Root Solutions for a number of reasons. Firstly they were local (in an adjoining Parish) and we knew their CEO Ciaran Stone. We were also aware of a number of projects the company had undertaken previously and we were impressed, not just by their work, but by the fact that they had received an award for the excellence of their business from Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce. To achieve this award they were interviewed by a panel of distinguished business people in Kilkenny. It became clear from an early stage in our deliberations with Square Root Solutions that they understood our requirements and quickly provided solution templates which made it easy for our project team to finalise a solution.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were simple - provide an information and communications platform which was easy to use to support the work of the Parish Priest in his engagement with Parishioners.

How did you select this vendor?

As noted above we knew the company and its CEO. We were also familiar with some of their development work and the fact that their business had recently received an accolade from Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce. We did engage with other companies, but we quickly realised that Square Root Solutions was best placed to meet our requirements.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

While the project was one overall information and communications platform, it contained a couple of different areas. One was to provide specific information on religious activities in the Parish where individuals could access this information and download what they required for their own specific event e.g. Marriages, Funerals, Baptisms, etc.. Another part of the solution was to provide static information on facilities and location in the Parish. A third area was a communications section where on-going Parish News, Publications & Events were updated as often as was deemed necessary. Within this area we also added a section to record interviews with people to keep Parishioners briefed on visitors and other activities both in the Parish and elsewhere.

What was the team composition?

Our engagements were always with the Square Root Solutions CEO Ciaran Stone, but we were aware of the team behind Ciaran who were undertaking the work also. On our side I was the Project Lead which involved another six individuals.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The Parish now has a well-designed solution which provides Parishioners with relevant information and a News Section which it did not have previously. This became particularly relevant during the coronavirus crisis where Parishioners were able to be kept updated with News and Information as normal church events had ceased.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Regular meeting took place between myself and Ciaran Stone plus on-going phone calls/e-mails, whenever needed. This worked extremely well.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Hands-on approach by Ciaran with a willingness to discuss solutions at the outset. The project was well managed by Ciaran and it was delivered in a timely manner. Customer support and service was top class and that continues.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Really pleased with the solution and I am very happy to acknowledge the excellence of Ciaran Stone and his team at Square Root Solutions.

After meeting with Ciaran and discussing our idea's, they put together a mockup. We were very happy with the outcome and Square Root Solutions continued with the development of the app, keeping us up to date as they worked through it. We tweaked some things along the way. Ciaran helped us Launch our app which was a success. Once the App was live to our customers, we continued to make some changes to the App, with the help of the Square Root Solutions team.

Our App has been very useful to us as a business and our customers, as all the information of our products is accessible at the click of a button.

Meantóir offers an extensive package of supports to assist clients to maintain a high quality early childhood service that provides positive experiences for children, families and staff.

Meantóir offers tailor made supports on a local, personal and impartial basis. This includes one to one mentoring to assist with a specific area of early childhood practice or continuing professional development for early childhood personnel.

We also offer HR supports, Policy and Procedure development or help in drawing up a Business Plan for a new venture. I am the founder of, and Lead Consultant with Meantóir.

The early childhood education sector in Ireland has been evolving rapidly over the past five years in particular, having come from a relatively marginal level of policy focus and investment.

In terms of advancing professionalism, emerging models of practice and growth of knowledge, skills, and experience, it is in a period of transformative change. There is a drive towards greater professionalisation at many levels, from Educator to organisation.

Increased emphasis on quality, governance, and accountability across the early childhood sector means services and staff have to engage with new systems, processes, and responsibilities.

This includes the formal documentation of children’s learning and development as a measure of quality provision in line with the child’s health, welfare and development.

The challenge was to develop an online and mobile application that would allow educators to record, compile and share a progressive record of children’s learning and development under the themes of Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and communicate with parents.

What were your goals for this project?

An app that was functionally efficient but simple to navigate and use

A range of functions contained within the application such as observation and assessment templates, photos, videos and voice recordings; a unique picture of the child will build up over time in the form of an individual Leabhar Scéalta (storybook).

To act as a two-way communication platform between the early childhood service and parents where real time updates can be sent to parents via a link to their phone.

How did you select this vendor?

Following an online trawl, a list of 3 vendors was selected based on the projects on their website. Following a cold call with each vendor, Square Root Solutions 'got' our project from the word go. The company director inspired confidence in the project, and the price point was good.

Describe the project in detail.

The first phase of the project was to build the wireframe. We submitted a scoping document containing our requirements. This included the different components of the platform, functionality and theme.

Once the wireframe was completed, the project had taken shape in exactly the way we had envisaged. The decision to retain Square Root Solutions for the full project was based on our high satisfaction with the wireframe.

The completed Platform has 4 interfaces developed in 2 phases for Android and iOS

We were assigned a Project Manager who was absolutely amazing. We received regular and timely update and all queries were responded to promptly and efficiently. The full development team was creative and interested in the project with a high level of enthusiasm to make the App the best it could be.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The apps are only newly launched and we have a lot of marketing work to do now. The initial feedback about the App from Educators is excellent. It has received high praise for its ease of use and functionality.

The parent phase has just been made available and feedback is very positive and interest is growing. Any small bugs were spotted and fixed efficiently by the team.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Timely communication is one of the key strengths of this company. We were consulted and kept in the loop at all times by phone, email and Skype. The Project Manager made a brilliant job of liaising between all members of the development team and ourselves. This level of consistency made a huge difference and feedback was always welcomed and acted upon.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was so impressed about how invested the team were in my project - this offered me great comfort that my project was in excellent hands. Value for money, meeting time-sensitive deadlines, knowledge and creativity to being ideas to life.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I am delighted with my finished product. I was completely out of my comfort zone as this is not my field and despite this, my product has exceeded my expectations.

We are an Irish post-primary school in Co. Dublin. I am a teacher of secondary level and post-leaving certificate students. As a member of management, I had the task of redesigning and modernising the school website.

They designed, created, and deployed our new website. They allowed us to acquire the website domain we wanted and organised hosting. We were provided continuous updates as the website was developed. This allowed us to implement features we did not initially request, and to provide input into the process as the website was being developed.

The project team had 6 members. The project manager was my point of contact.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our new website is easy to update which allows multiple staff take on the task of managing data for the site. Our previous site required edits to be carried out by a member of staff with knowledge of HTML. Our site is now streamlined, and allows integration of our Twitter pages. Our numbers for the incoming year have risen, and part of this is attributed to the ease at which potential students can now apply for a place in the school.

The team stuck to deadlines and project management was efficient and effectively communicated with us.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The level of communication from the team was excellent - they were always available to discuss changes or elements we wanted to change. The timeframe for the delivery of the project was very impressive.

There is very little that needs to be improved. We are absolutely delighted with the service provided.
