What challenge were you trying to address with Square Root Solutions?

We wanted to build a bilingual Irish and English website for our business.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They designed and developed a website taking our requirements into account, with photographs, videos, diaries, event calendars, and other things you’d usually see on a school website. It’s a user-friendly site with an added login area that connects to the school system we used called VMware, which allows parents to view attendance records and so on.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Ciaran (CEO), and he then delegated some of the work to his team.

How did you come to work with Square Root Solutions?

Our school principal found them. He then assigned the role to me to liaison with Ciaran to develop school advice.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested around €5,000 (approximately $6,100 USD) with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September 2019–2020. The project has ended, but they’re always available for consultation.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re happy with their service. Our entire school community uses the site that Square Root Solutions developed. Teachers, students, and parents go in daily, so there‘s a lot of traffic on it, and there hasn’t been any kind of bugs or crashes.

How did Square Root Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

They were great. We were happy with Ciaran’s consultation. We met him a few times to discuss the design and content of the website, and he was always available to modify everything despite the bilingualism challenge — he was very open with our requirements.

In terms of communication, we mostly used email, phone, and personal meetings before the COVID-19 pandemic. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their availability to approach them for consultation and their ease of access are what distinguishes them from other providers. They also had the facility to continue working with us throughout the whole lockdown — that’s admirable and says a lot about them because they were eager to finish the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on — we couldn’t have been happier.

Any advice for potential customers?

Discuss with them exactly what you want. They’re open to suggestions and great at offering advice regarding the design and functionality of the website. Ask them questions and rely on their expertise.

I am the managing director of Centric Pensions Ltd. The aim of Centric is to help financial advisers improve their communication with their pension clients.

We hired Square Root Solutions to design and build an online portal and client App that we could roll out to our financial adviser clients to help them to go digital with their client communications.

What were your goals for this project?

To provide an informative and user friendly end client experience to ensure that clients engaged with their pension and their adviser. In addition to ensure that the process was streamlined for the financial adviser and not complicated.

How did you select Square Root Solutions?

Conducted research of a number of solution providers across the market and ultimately selected Square Root Solutions based on their experience, pricing structure and their standard of support service both through the build and pot release.

Describe the project in detail.

To design and build an online portal and client App that we could roll out to our financial adviser clients to help them to go digital with their client communications. The project required a number of user layers of Admin, Adviser and end client, all of which needed to be designed to provide an excellent customer experience to ensure high take up levels.

What was the team composition?

We were allocated a comprehensive team of supports including relationship manager, developers and Project manager in addition to regular ceo catch ups to ensure the project was going exactly to our specifications and time-frame.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

As this service is new to the market we were unsure as to what the demand would be. Whilst just launched a short period now the initial feedback has been excellent. Within the first 6 weeks of launch we have been generating revenue from advisers that have subscribed to the application and we have already revised upwards our Q2 targets for 2021.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was very effective thorough clear communication, setting clear expectations and timely changes. The team are excellent as taking onboard feedback and implementing requested changes.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The most impressive aspect was their willingness and flexibility to adapt to our changing vision of what we needed. As this is our first venture into this area our vision was not clear at the start, which resulted in us needing to change aspects of the build as we developed. The team were very accommodating to ensure that it was prefect for us no matter how long that was to take.

I am the Cofounder and COO of EthiCart. EthiCart is a social enterprise and clean tech company. EthiCart is a user friendly app that allows you to see how sustainable your food products are by searching or scanning a product and suggesting more sustainable products empowering you to become a more conscious consumer.

Square Root Solutions developed a fully functional mobile app for EthiCart.

What were your goals for this project?

The goal of this step of the project was to provide a proof of concept that this was a product that was in demand and to test the User Experience.

How did you select Square Root Solutions?

Ciaran messaged me on LinkedIn explaining the company and was very helpful. We had seen work they had done for others and heard about the excellent service so we saw it as a step in the right direction for the company.

We had some initial meetings about what the scope of the project was, we then we had calls to discuss pricing. The communication streams were very strong and we had a lot of collaborative conversations.

Square Root Solutions showed us the UI they had developed and then we moved onto the UX. The team put in so much hard work from the very start until the launch of the app. We look forward to continuing to work with them.

What was the team composition?

We had our first point of contact with the company's CEO who took us through the process. We then had a product manager, someone to do UI/UX and then the logistics of how to navigate the dashboard etc.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have got a lot of very positive feedback about the app's usability and user experience. We have a 5 star rating on both the App Store and Google Play Store. We have in access of 550 downloads within the first 3 weeks.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The team was extremely reliable and there were very open communication channels at every step of the way. They were flexible and very responsive to any needs our team had. There was a very positive and friendly rapport between their team and ours.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The app they were able to produce in the time frame that they were given. We are so happy with the product that they have created with us. It works so well and has is easy to keep up to date as we increase our product range available on the app.

I could not fault the company. Keep going the way you are!

Conahy Parish is one of many parishes in the Diocese of Ossory. I provide volunteering services to the Parish in a number of areas, specifically on this project covering technology and system development. With a dwindling number of Priests, the current Parish Priest required a system which would support his work with Parishioners in term of relevant church information and also in communicating news updates on Parish events on an on-going basis.

We engaged with Square Root Solutions for a number of reasons. Firstly they were local (in an adjoining Parish) and we knew their CEO Ciaran Stone. We were also aware of a number of projects the company had undertaken previously and we were impressed, not just by their work, but by the fact that they had received an award for the excellence of their business from Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce. To achieve this award they were interviewed by a panel of distinguished business people in Kilkenny. It became clear from an early stage in our deliberations with Square Root Solutions that they understood our requirements and quickly provided solution templates which made it easy for our project team to finalise a solution.

Our goals were simple - provide an information and communications platform which was easy to use to support the work of the Parish Priest in his engagement with Parishioners.

How did you select this vendor?

As noted above we knew the company and its CEO. We were also familiar with some of their development work and the fact that their business had recently received an accolade from Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce. We did engage with other companies, but we quickly realised that Square Root Solutions was best placed to meet our requirements.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

While the project was one overall information and communications platform, it contained a couple of different areas. One was to provide specific information on religious activities in the Parish where individuals could access this information and download what they required for their own specific event e.g. Marriages, Funerals, Baptisms, etc.. Another part of the solution was to provide static information on facilities and location in the Parish. A third area was a communications section where on-going Parish News, Publications & Events were updated as often as was deemed necessary. Within this area we also added a section to record interviews with people to keep Parishioners briefed on visitors and other activities both in the Parish and elsewhere.

What was the team composition?

Our engagements were always with the Square Root Solutions CEO Ciaran Stone, but we were aware of the team behind Ciaran who were undertaking the work also. On our side I was the Project Lead which involved another six individuals.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The Parish now has a well-designed solution which provides Parishioners with relevant information and a News Section which it did not have previously. This became particularly relevant during the coronavirus crisis where Parishioners were able to be kept updated with News and Information as normal church events had ceased.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Regular meeting took place between myself and Ciaran Stone plus on-going phone calls/e-mails, whenever needed. This worked extremely well.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Hands-on approach by Ciaran with a willingness to discuss solutions at the outset. The project was well managed by Ciaran and it was delivered in a timely manner. Customer support and service was top class and that continues.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Really pleased with the solution and I am very happy to acknowledge the excellence of Ciaran Stone and his team at Square Root Solutions.

Ciaran helped us Launch our app which was a success. Once the App was live to our customers, we continued to make some changes to the App, with the help of the Square Root Solutions team.

We also offer HR supports, Policy and Procedure development or help in drawing up a Business Plan for a new venture. I am the founder of, and Lead Consultant with Meantóir.

The early childhood education sector in Ireland has been evolving rapidly over the past five years in particular, having come from a relatively marginal level of policy focus and investment.

In terms of advancing professionalism, emerging models of practice and growth of knowledge, skills, and experience, it is in a period of transformative change. There is a drive towards greater professionalisation at many levels, from Educator to organisation.

Increased emphasis on quality, governance, and accountability across the early childhood sector means services and staff have to engage with new systems, processes, and responsibilities.

This includes the formal documentation of children’s learning and development as a measure of quality provision in line with the child’s health, welfare and development.

The challenge was to develop an online and mobile application that would allow educators to record, compile and share a progressive record of children’s learning and development under the themes of Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and communicate with parents.

What were your goals for this project?

An app that was functionally efficient but simple to navigate and use

A range of functions contained within the application such as observation and assessment templates, photos, videos and voice recordings; a unique picture of the child will build up over time in the form of an individual Leabhar Scéalta (storybook).

To act as a two-way communication platform between the early childhood service and parents where real time updates can be sent to parents via a link to their phone.

How did you select this vendor?

Following an online trawl, a list of 3 vendors was selected based on the projects on their website. Following a cold call with each vendor, Square Root Solutions 'got' our project from the word go. The company director inspired confidence in the project, and the price point was good.

Describe the project in detail.

The first phase of the project was to build the wireframe. We submitted a scoping document containing our requirements. This included the different components of the platform, functionality and theme.

Once the wireframe was completed, the project had taken shape in exactly the way we had envisaged. The decision to retain Square Root Solutions for the full project was based on our high satisfaction with the wireframe.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The apps are only newly launched and we have a lot of marketing work to do now. The initial feedback about the App from Educators is excellent. It has received high praise for its ease of use and functionality.

The parent phase has just been made available and feedback is very positive and interest is growing. Any small bugs were spotted and fixed efficiently by the team.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Timely communication is one of the key strengths of this company. We were consulted and kept in the loop at all times by phone, email and Skype. The Project Manager made a brilliant job of liaising between all members of the development team and ourselves. This level of consistency made a huge difference and feedback was always welcomed and acted upon.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was so impressed about how invested the team were in my project - this offered me great comfort that my project was in excellent hands. Value for money, meeting time-sensitive deadlines, knowledge and creativity to being ideas to life.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I am delighted with my finished product. I was completely out of my comfort zone as this is not my field and despite this, my product has exceeded my expectations.

Our new website is easy to update which allows multiple staff take on the task of managing data for the site. Our previous site required edits to be carried out by a member of staff with knowledge of HTML. Our site is now streamlined, and allows integration of our Twitter pages. Our numbers for the incoming year have risen, and part of this is attributed to the ease at which potential students can now apply for a place in the school.

The team stuck to deadlines and project management was efficient and effectively communicated with us.
