I am the Head of Product for a SaaS Enabled Marketplace that connects Wholesale Suppliers to Retailers globally. The platform facilitates transactions between buyer and seller and has also a SaaS component.

We used Skyllect to help us expand our engineering and software development capabilities. Their job was work with our in-house team to maintain the core platform as well as build out additional features on the Product roadmap. The software development encompassed both front end and backend work.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

The reviews we saw of their work across a few gig platforms were good. They also demonstrated a strong understanding of our business. Lastly, we administered some coding assessments that their developers scored well on, demonstrating a high level of technical aptitude.

They handled a lot of the features associated with both Suppliers and Retailers. For Suppliers, they handled all the product upload, key categorization functions, and some 3rd party integrations to allow for users to import data from other sources. Our key technologies used were Angular, Node, Express and MongoDB.

The amount of software development resources fluctuated based on needs; we had a very flexible arrangement. Sometimes it was as little as two developers, others it was up to five. They were either Junior or Senior Front end/Backend developers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The deliverables were good. All features that our team had intended to build were delivered at a high quality; everything was meticulously tested for Quality and Assurance. The entire Supplier and Retailer platform flow were functionally working well from end to end.

Project management style was standard. They are comfortable using any of the task management tools from Trello to Jira. Progress on tasks are regularly communicated and if there is something that is taking more time than expected due to technical challenges, they explain why in terms you can understand.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive thing about the company was the trustworthiness of their management team and project managers. Estimations were very accurate. Communication was honest and genuine. And of top all of that, they possess all the technical knowledge to deliver any project, regardless of sector.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

They know a wide range of technologies and can work with mostly any tech stack which is helpful. I suppose there are always more tools to learn but this is applicable to any software developer.

Backend Development and Mobile APIs has been built on PHP framework and Frontend with CSS. Our workflow involves creating tickets for them on JIRA and weekly discussion call where we explain them the project features, roadmap and requirements
