The process with Scarlett and her team was so seamless and efficient, its hard to answer these questions. The website went from a bulleted list of desires to a full blown, visually stunning, interactive website faster than I have ever experienced in my career. Edits were done within 24 hours (although often within a few hours) and the consultative nature of the interaction was exactly what we were looking for - a true partner to help us increase our impact in the community.

Scarlett's Web is a fantastic exception to this reality.

I’m the CEO of Kellington Protection, and we’re a full provider of security services such as armed and unarmed security officers. We also do investigations, labor disputes, and anything that’s security-related.

It’s been over 10 years since we’ve updated our website, so we needed someone to develop and design it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I reached out to Scarlett’s Web to build a modern WordPress site that showed all our services. I gave them a brief idea of how I wanted the website to flow, sent over some photos, and approved some of the stock images they sent over.

We also wanted to have our applicants easily apply online, so they built a customer portal. We required them to create something that our employees could easily access to go through our users’ payment records.

What is the team composition?

I deal strictly with Scarlett (Lead Developer, Designer, & Owner).

How did you come to work with Scarlett's Web, Inc.?

I already had a working relationship with Scarlett prior to this project, when we used their services to host our original web page years ago. I’ve never utilized their company to build a website until now.

What is the status of this engagement?

The ongoing partnership started in April 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The only metric I noticed from their work is that we’ve achieved a 100% ranking on Google’s search engine results.

How did Scarlett's Web, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They accomplished the job sooner than expected, so we were very excited to get the site up and running. As for the budget, they’ve been very upfront about everything — I had some last-minute changes that I wanted them to implement that weren’t reflected in my invoice. 

Their communication has been perfect and we mostly talk through the phone, Google Meet, and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with their customer service and how they’re just upfront about everything. I don't have to oversee anything, and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on our web page.

I hate to say it, but I can’t think of what they can improve on. I didn’t shop the project around because once I spoke to them, I knew they were the best fit to do this.

I have worked with Scarlett for the 13 years I hav been in practice in the Greater Charlotte North Carolina Region. She is in tune with my vision for my business and does excellent work. I trust her judgment implicitly and I do not trust any other Web Designer to work with me on promoting my practice. She is creative, professional and does an excellent job.

I first met with Scarlett to discuss what direction I wanted to take my law practice in. She then gave me a list of tasks to do so that she could begin work on my project which included getting new head shots, a new domain name, and copy for the content of my site. I provided the information to her along with the new head shot. I told her the mood I wanted to convey and she brought my vision to life.

I also worked with a booking and virtual platform company to set up online booking and she integrated that and my payment platform into my site. She gave me some draft versions and we spoke weekly and fine tuned the site then once I gave her the go ahead, she launched it. She also has hosted every web site that I have had.

I’m the co-owner and membership director for Arena Fitness, and we are a wellness center that focuses on exercise, training, nutrition, and other lifestyle coaching elements, for the overall improvement of health and weight management.

We were looking for someone to help give clear research-based solutions for health management, and getting to the healthiest weight possible.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Scarlett’s Web built and developed our website on WordPress.

We met with her initially to get a sense of her process in developing and designing a website, and through that exchange of ideas, we felt she was the ideal person to work with. From there she provided us with all of the questions that we would need to answer, in order for her to craft a website that would speak to the uniqueness and strengths of our business, and communicate with the end-user that was clear and compelling.

We met with her on a consistent basis as she built it, and she kept us in the loop as far as the creative process was concerned — she even encouraged us to offer recommendations or corrections to anything she had done. We really walked side-by-side throughout the entire process until we got the finalized product, which we’re extremely happy with. 

Additionally, she provided us with a demo site that functioned as a simulation of what the site would like if it went live. This gave us the opportunity to look at and assess all its visual components, and interact with them in real-time.

The site is fully developed but she continues to manage it, and from time to time I will reach out to her and ask for adjustments — she’s been incredibly responsive from that end.

Scarlett (Lead Developer, Designer & Owner) was referred to us by a client for whom we have quite a bit of respect.

What is the status of this engagement?

The ongoing partnership started in August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Under normal circumstances, we would be reviewing data in regards to the traffic and conversion activity through the website. However, since our business has been closed due to COVID-19, we wouldn’t be operating with the data that’s comparable to the past when we were open to the public. We’re opening a week, and at that point, we will begin to have comparable data to the data that existed from our previous site.

From a customer-facing perspective, we’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the user-friendliness of the website, the clarity of the messaging, the effectiveness of the functionalities, and its striking visual impact.

How did Scarlett's Web, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Scarlett is a great manager, because as is often the case when you’re dealing with business people, their interest is really in delivering their specific services or products and not in design. It was really important for her to take control of the management of the process from that perspective, which she does really well.

We tend to interact mostly using Google Drive and shared documents. She would make requests for content from us and we would respond through the shared documents. That worked really well for us to keep track of what is being done, what she needs, and what had been completed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Scarlett’s Web has a really good grasp on matching the visual content of the site with the services we’re offering in a really compelling way. They have the ability to synthesize what we do, what we offer, and what our customers think about us with a visual design that’s going to be attractive, compelling, and create and foster engagement. They have a really good understanding of blending together the mission of the business with an effective and visually compelling website.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t. We’ve been nothing but happy with Scarlett’s work. She’s incredibly responsive, which is amazing, so whenever I submit a request for something, she’s very quick to respond and remedy whatever it is I’m asking about.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as clear as you can about who you are, what you do, and what you want to communicate to your audience, because that’s going to enable Scarlett to design a website that delivers that. In the absence of your clarity, she’s not going to have the material that she needs to meet your goals.

Choosing a web developer or designer can be a daunting experience for the layperson, but if you’re in the process of looking for someone to design a website, I highly recommend you put Scarlett on the shortlist of people to meet with.

Scarlett’s Web started by taking a snapshot of what we were using and evaluating it. We shared our needs and concerns, and where we wanted the project to go. Once they understood what we were looking for, they ran with it. 

On top of just a general overhaul of the site, we needed to update our graphics and e-commerce function. We also wanted to improve the speed of the site, all of which Scarlett’s Web managed. Throughout the project, they made a lot of suggestions and recommendations.

We are an advertising, marketing, and public relations firm, and we’ve been in business for 27 years. We are located in Virginia.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am one of the two owners and founders.

What was your goal for working with Scarlett's Web?

Scarlett was retained as the programmer on several WordPress websites that we were responsible for building for our clients. Her role was to build the backend based on the designs that were provided by our creative partner, which is Red Chalk Studios.

Please describe the scope of their work.

Red Chalk Studios did the design, the strategies, and the navigational concepts. Based on their concepts, Scarlett [Joy, the principal at Scarlett’s Web] implemented that. Although she didn’t work on the visual design then, but is on a current project, she is designing the database that will be used for all the data entry on all the listings. She is working on the calendar module that we are developing.

What was your process for selecting Scarlett's Web with which to work?

Initially, we had several programmers that we either had direct experience with, or had been recommended to us. Out of those, we selected Scarlett’s Web because we felt they most nearly met the needs that we had for the project. They had the specific experience in WordPress that we were interested in. That was about five to six years ago. At that point, WordPress, Joomla, and a lot of others had been out there, but WordPress hadn’t been used as much as it has been recently. That experience was very important to us.

Once we made that selection, we planned and built additional websites. We made the decision to select Scarlett’s Web primarily because we had developed into a team, and everybody knew what everybody else was going to do. We knew what the processes were, and it was important to me as well as my clients to keep that team together. I knew we could deliver what we said we would do, and we could deliver it within the timeframe that was required.

Can you provide a ballpark figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

In terms of hours, I can easily figure that we did a minimum of 250 hours on a project. We have gone as high as 500 hours. It depends on the size and the scope of the project.

When was the latest milestone completed for that work?

Scarlett's Web does ongoing work for multiple client sites. She works with us on all of those accounts. We have updated, changed, made modifications, and that sort of thing. The engagement is indefinite. We have no plans to change course at all. We're in the midst of a project now, but the last project that was completed was June of 2013.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

I can comment generally about our satisfaction with the end product. Whether or not it actually met the client's needs as were originally outlined, Scarlett’s Web has always met the requirements and oftentimes gone beyond to create some additional solutions to things that we had not anticipated, but we needed to do in order to make it easier to manage for the future.

Is there anything unique about Scarlett's Web that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Working with them has always been excellent. Because she listens and is part of the process, she oftentimes comes up with ideas that are going to make it even more effective for the client. The relationship has been very successful, and Scarlett’s Web does very good work. I’m extremely happy with it.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

Because I’m not a technical person, I would have no way of knowing that. All I can comment on is my level of satisfaction in terms of delivering what I thought she was going to deliver. In that regard, she has done that. Because I am not a programmer, and would hardly have any comprehension of what she really does, I would have no way of commenting on that.
