We wanted a good working mobile app that could help level specific exercises for the user depending on their ability level.

I looked for a long time for a company that suited us. Because the app was quite complicated we needed a company that understood exactly what we were attempting and that we could communicate with effectively. RV understood what we were attempting easily, we could communicate very well, and were also very reasonably priced compared to the other companies we were in talks with.

We talked through the process of what needed to be done before we signed and then once everything was finalised RV gave us set goals and targets for when different stages of the app was to be completed. This was very simple and straightforward laid out starting with initial mock ups and ending with submission to the app store.

What was the team composition?

A project leader led the whole project and he was in charge of his team who built the app. We were in constant communication, and my opinion and feedback were implemented whenever they were given.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have just uploaded the app onto the app store so we are looking forward to positive feedback shortly.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager and I were in constant communication and we scheduled calls if anything needed to be clarified. Any issues or feedback I had with anything was implemented quickly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The communication and implementation of whatever was required was very impressive. Even things that seemed very difficult was done very quickly. They also offered opinions and options where needed. Very personable project manager who was always keen to help and do what was required to make the project a success.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No we were satisfied with everything.

Based on clutch reviews. Had many call before engagement to ensure they full understood the requirements of the project. Became very clear in the project they did not understand the requirements.

Based on wireframes and specifications I provided, and the pre-agreed milestones for development.

I had one main contact. He was absolutely useless.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. The quality and speed of work is incredibly poor. Caused many additional bugs in the code through their own development. Any work produced was never done correctly in the first place, and then they would complain when I pointed out the additional bugs they had created.

The lead had no idea how to manage the project. 6 weeks into the development, the timeframe they said they would complete the development, not a single task in the milestone had been completed.

The lead would say they understand the task, however the outcome from their development showed he clearly did not understand. When I notified the owner of RVT, I had the most unprofessional response and management of the situation. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

WORST COMPANY I HAVE DEALT WITH.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. STAY AWAY AND SAVE YOUR MONEY.

The vendor responded on March 1, 2021.

We do not agree with this review. Our team was the third or fourth team that was working on existing code for the client (from India). My two developers have seven plus year’s experience and worked for them for 1.5 months. During this period, the client changed the whole wireframe/project requirement three times. Whenever we were near completion of the first wireframe, they came up with a new wireframe that was totally different from the old one. We tried hard to make them understand that it would be good if they finalized the project requirements first and then gave them to us for development. However, their reply was that they would work in the same way, and we had to follow the same.  

They paid only $500 in 1.5 months. We ultimately sensed that they were not serious about the product, and that they didn’t know what they needed; they were just doing experiments.  At the end, we requested the final documentation and said that only then could we work. They started misbehaving over emails and calls, the same thing they did with the previous three companies. It was our bad that we accepted his contract. The client was the kind of person who was playing a smart game to get his whole work done for only $500. Two resources were working for them full time, but they still asked to add more resources. It was worthless, even if I had assigned my whole company to them, because their mindset was to cheat and do financial fraud with developers.

Development (coding) of the application that runs on Amazon Web Services and connects to iPhone and Android native apps.

SOLUTION

How did you select RV Technologies Softwares Pvt. Ltd. and what were the deciding factors?

Used UpWork platform. Tested several contract development providers - they were the most responsive and competent.

Based on wireframes and specifications I provided, they coded the application based on the MERN stack and used Flutter for the mobile app development. The platform runs on AWS using S3 and Route 53, with the code on the GitHub code repository.

Over the course of the project 4 developers were engaged, with one acting as the lead.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Overall, I am very satisfied with the team. They were helpful is providing technology and functionality guidance. The inevitable problems with code (bugs) were fixed quickly and without issues. The software as been launched into production and the teams support has been excellent.

One team leader handled the primary communication between me and the team. When appropriate members of the team communicated directly with me for short periods to address specific issues.

We communicated using the UpWork platform, Zoom, Asana to set priorities, Adobe XD for wireframes, GitHub for code repository, and email. Overall, communication was excellent - daily reports on progress.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Excellent team leadership! The team was responsive, competent, easy to work with, had great development skills, and gave timely deliverables.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Frankly, the improvements are mostly on my side in that I could have done a better job with specifications, and particularly UI/UX. Having said that... the team could benefit from paying more attention to UI/UX - but overall they did a better job then me.

We’re an online camping directory with a web presence and a dedicated app with over 10,000 listings that synchronizes with our web database.

We hired RV Technologies because we had an existing app at version 1.0 and we needed to upgrade the functionality inside the app and add more features.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We guided them through exactly what we wanted. We knew what we wanted to integrate and how we wanted it to work. The documentation, videos, and all information were forwarded to them. They came back to us with prototypes and we gave them feedback. 

RV Technologies also had in-house designers, so if we needed some graphics implemented into the app to be optimized for a specific layout — Android devices, iOS devices, phones, tablets, and others —  then they would do that as needed. I provided them with the necessary graphics, then I would resize and get them ready for the UX/UI design.

We’d been utilizing their services for upgrades, bug fixes, coding, SEO, and more, so they really provided a full service. 

What is the team composition?

I was interfacing with one person, Ankush (Project Manager), who I believe was the project leader and the head of app development. He would then pass the information to a dedicated iOS developer and a dedicated Android developer, as well as to designers, when needed.

How did you come to work with RV Technologies Softwares Pvt. Ltd.?

We were using a local firm here in Australia, and the plan was to integrate all extra features into version 2.0 of the app. We used the local firm to create the first version and the process was slow. Getting the basics down took a long time, and their services were also very expensive. 

So, I used Upwork to look for an app development team. We had a couple of false starts with some freelancers; they were just freelancers, not agencies. I came across RV Technologies and started liaising with them. I decided I would give an agency a go.

How much have you invested with them?

We initially invested $70,000 AUD (approximately $51,200 USD) for version 1.0 of the app, and publishing the second version cost us $6,0000 AUD (approximately $4,300 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We used their services between June–September 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our app went from being used by only 6,000 people to potentially 140,000 people. Initially, the app was available to premium members only. However, we wanted the app to have free-membership functionalities, as well. 

Now, free and premium members can use the app. We probably increased the usage of the app five times. We now have such a large database of members and drive traffic from emails, social media, and more.

How did RV Technologies Softwares Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

Our communication with RV Technologies was done via Skype. I tried to be as detailed as possible. I would send documents, videos, screenshots, screencasts, and others that they would peruse. I would tell them to give me feedback on what they understood. Once we worked out that routine, communication became seamless and easy. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive thing about them was their reliability. Because I’m in Australia and they’re in India, there was a time difference. However, they were extremely efficient as long as we communicated what we wanted. 

They were also always available, extremely polite, and very accommodating. There were times when I would get frustrated over something and they were just calm. They also didn’t wait for a week or so to do something that can be done within a day. If they couldn’t finish something within the day, they’d let me know they were still working on it. 

They were very reliable and that was not something I typically found in many organizations or people in the last seven years. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only way I think they could improve is to have an office in Australia. Other than that, I think it was an improvement on both sides of the fences here. I didn’t know how they did things, and they didn’t come to me and say this was how they worked.

I worked around that and it allowed me to develop as a project manager. I got better at communicating the information with all the work I have done. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Potential customers should be as detailed as possible. Don't give RV Technologies one sentence of what you want them to do and expect them to completely understand your project. Provide as much information, media, video, documentation, written images, and more to communicate what you want them to do — I think that’s universal when using freelancers.  

Take the time you think it might take you to explain to someone how to do something and multiply that by three. Go above and beyond, because what you give them is invariably what you get. They will deliver what you give them — they’re good at that.

The website required much upfront design. So there was several iterations going back and forth to figure out the overall structure and design elements. Once that was completed, it was implemented. RV was very efficient and provided useful feedback and updates along the way.

They first assigned a product manager. He was my only contact and that made things go smoothly. He then allocated the work to designer(s), HTML developers, and coders.

The website is not yet on a live server open to the public, but I have received excellent feedback from beta-testers.

Historically, I have used different companies for different services (e.g., design vs programming). RV possessed both of these talents and that made out project much easier to manage (no finger pointing).
