Due to the large amount of work we have, we usually outsource a lot of projects. We also wanted the best quality imaginable.

They’d developed huge number of projects, which encouraged me to give them a chance.

They’ve done everything from large ERP, web-based solutions to basic informative websites. For example, they created a mapping system that plotted all the locations of farmers and what they’re growing. They also developed an online design store with a huge ERP system and complex e-commerce structure. Generally, they provide software engineering, development, testing and full code deployment services

What was the team composition?

We work with a project manager, a backend developer, a frontend developer, and a designer.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

RV has always done an excellent job on the projects we’ve outsourced to them.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

They have a huge number of employees, and you can swap someone out immediately if you’re not comfortable with them or their quality. They’re available 24/7 and always treat their customers like family, sticking to deadlines and fixing all bugs in a timely manner.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The beauty of RV is that, with every new project I give them, they do a better job than they did previously. They’re communicative and their developers are constantly willing to grow, learn, and improve. RV has always been our outsourcing company and will always be our outsourcing company.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

I believe that, when it comes to automation and performance testing, they need more in their kit.

I’m CEO and creative director of Pandemonium Screenplays, an L.A.-based entertainment publishing company whose mission is to start getting people to read screenplays as they do novels.

We needed to develop an app where users can purchase and read formatted screenplays on their mobile devices.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted the app to mimic the look of our website, with the functionality of an e-reader with in-app purchases.

How did you select this vendor?

I found them on LinkedIn and their website looked promising. They successfully performed a few updates and additions to the website before I decided to use them to develop our app.

Their work involved mimicking the design of our website and adding a user log-in feature as well as about, product, and contact pages, FAQ, a submission page, and a blog. They also had to build a live text e-reader with a bookmarking function so that users could read their purchases easily.

What was the team composition?

Our only point of contact was the app developer.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

RV Technologies wasted six months of my time. Faulty communication is the biggest obstacle as it was always unclear if they understood what I was asking for. I asked them to develop a simple e-reader app that I could paste formatted text onto. While continually pestering me for money, they made a barebones app in which people could purchase a PDF, which wasn’t what I asked for.

I hired a grad student from India—here in Los Angeles—to facilitate the communication with them and they literally started over. They made an app with “off the shelf” features in which I could paste text into, but it was full of workarounds that still didn’t let us format the text correctly. Their attitude towards this was “you can live with it.”

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

I cannot emphasize enough how ineffective the communication was, so much so that I had to hire a separate consultant to facilitate this aspect. The work only progressed after this, at a premium cost per hour as dedicated by the consultant, who worked more diligently than the developer.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The only thing impressive about them is their audacity to stand behind their subpar work and their diligence in chasing their payments despite an agreed-upon payment schedule.

Are there any areas for improvement?

This team is not innovative and when faced with an issue, they would defer to us to find the answers. They offered easy solutions, made minor tweaks, and called it “done”. When I requested a partial refund of the thousands I paid them, they begged and begged, which I found very unprofessional. Ultimately, they refused and threatened to retaliate if I wrote this review. Honestly, they should have never accepted the job.

I work with one developer and a U.S.-India UX/UI liaison. The communication between the developer and myself was unclear at times, but the liaison cleared up any misunderstandings.

I approached RV Technologied with hi-fi wireframes and they took these and transformed them into a fully-functioning and amazing app that works on both iOS and Android. The team added lots of features and worked with a lot of enthusiasm.

Perhaps tracking the project a little better in Basecamp, however, we resolved this quite quickly, and I'm very happy with the end result.
