I lead the software development of an automation tool for a multinational software corporation.

What challenge were you trying to address with Resolute Software?

We’ve had several engagements with them. The discussion started when we needed a partner to help onboard our customers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Resolute helped our customers become acquainted with one of our tools. Their team also worked with them to build full regression sheets. They created large test sets and helped customers integrate into our tools.

Their team helps us with the Microsoft stack as well as mobile and web technologies. Their team also helped us with our own products. They integrated two of our technologies, one of which had built-in translators.

They’re also involved in design architecture. Their team creates plans even from a QA architecture standpoint.

They also help us from a software development standpoint. Based on our customers' preferences, their team adapts our tools. Many customers also want to migrate from 10–15 years old platforms onto a cloud architecture. They help us on those projects.

What is the team composition?

We work with about five people from Resolute and have a main point of contact.

How did you come to work with Resolute Software?

An internal team referred us to them, but I also knew Veli (CTO) through my professional network. I knew him as a talented developer.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $250,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began our engagement in January 2020, and it’s ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

In the past, we worked with many different firms. Resolute always delivers on their commitments, which is important to our customers who’re making a substantial financial investment to bring these tools on board. They haven’t left us on a limb with our customers.

Resolute’s a dependable team. For example, if we have a 40-hour engagement, their team sticks to that 40 hours. They haven’t come back to us saying their team can’t deliver or needs additional time. That’s important because we typically work with our customer’s delivery, QA, or software development manager. If we need additional time, our customer has to ask their executives for additional funds.  

How did Resolute Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Resolute takes an iterative approach. I meet with their team twice a week over Zoom. We touch base on any ongoing work so that I can communicate updates to our customers. We meet at the end of the week to recap their progress and discuss whether or not additional resources are necessary. We have constant feedback loops, which is important.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their level of professionalism stands out. Their ability to communicate with our customer’s important, and their team makes sure that nothing’s misunderstood. There’s a level of trust and communication between our teams that makes everything easy.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s always room for improvement but I don’t have anything specific in mind. I hope that they continue to grow.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Give them a shot. Resolute’s more expensive than other outsourced providers, but you get quality work in return.

BACKGROUND

I work at an equipment management services company. We provide a web interface, both to our clients and to our vendors. We have a legacy application that gives the ability to place orders for the movement of equipment logistics-wise, as well as the service of the equipment. We provide a number of ancillary services in addition to that.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Resolute Software?

We have a legacy system that is decades old, and we wanted to update it to bring it into the 21st century. We had chosen a company to supplement the development process that we have. That company had selected Telerik for controls to be done, but they were lagging behind, and we found that we weren't gaining any velocity.

We were looking for another company to pick up what the other company had started. We needed them to apply best practices to the use of these Telerik controls and get it into a phase one to production status.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I provide the architecture of the product, and Resolute Software supplements our development resources. We're primarily a Microsoft shop, so we're using SQL Server as a backend. We're also implementing this with Microsoft Azure, so we needed some experience with the app services, with SQL database on top of that. We use an agile development which is provided through Microsoft Azure DevOps, so we've got a continuous integration, continuous delivery, and repositories that we use through that. 

We’re using C# for the middleware of the business layer, .NET Core, and Bootstrap on the client-side. We needed to create some RESTful APIs that are communicated through and down to the client, which is basically JavaScript. 

What is the team composition?

We're currently working with two people from the team. Initially, there was a lead senior member of the team that helped us get them up to speed, and they're still participating. One of the things we wanted to make sure of was having all senior people. They provided an intermediate programmer, who we're very pleased with, but I didn't want to have to manage that resource. They're managing those resources internally and have been doing their own code reviews since they got up to speed on what our code standards are. 

How did you come to work with Resolute Software?

We found them through Telerik directly. They have consulting services, and Resolute Software is one of their providers. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent in the range of $50,000–$100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in November 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our feedback is more anecdotal. We didn’t go in with fixed, granular requirements; we needed to clean up what had been done and implement best practices. In the beginning, it had to be agile in the sense that requirements had to be defined, reviewed, and implemented.

The quality of the work has been very good, and I’ve enjoyed working with them. They’re easy to work with. They explain requirements and are willing to take ownership of them; they don’t need to be told in a granular sense what steps to take. They work through the process, review it with us to make sure we’re going in the right direction, and then complete it.

How did Resolute Software perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve played many hats in this, including architect, business analyst, and project management, so they didn’t really do project management. Since it was in an ad hoc fashion for the sprints that we provided, they were within the expectations of everything. 

The primary software that we've been using is Azure DevOps, which gives us our agile methodology and our task boards, which we create work items in. It also provides a repository for the source code and pipelines for continuous integration and delivery out to our different environments. We communicate within the task boards and work items; we can create mentions that trigger emails. We've got one place to go look for everything. We only use email when we need to set something up or discuss something outside the scope of the project. 

We originally used Skype, but now we're using Microsoft teams. From a development point of view, the software that we’re using is Microsoft Visual Studio 2019.

What did you find most impressive about them?

If I compare them to the other company that we worked with, Resolute Software was able to quickly understand and take ownership of items and tasks that we needed to be done. With little communication, we were able to refine that and get to a common understanding of what we wanted for a final product. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. I would rather pay more money to get a quality product. To me, this means not only meeting requirements, but exceeding them. It’s a lot less effort on my part if I can explain things to a senior person and get that done in one day, but pay more money for it.

Any advice for potential customers?

I feel like they’re my friends, not just business partners. From that point of view, it’s easier to work with them. I look forward to our meetings to not only discuss the business but see how they’re doing.

We offer managed cybersecurity services for digitally-enabled companies with limited security resources. Based in Europe we have projects in Europe, USA, Africa and the Middle East. I am the VP of Business Development at the organization.

We hired Resolute Software for the development of our new website that is aimed at reflecting our new vision and strategy in presenting our services. Resolute Software helped us build our image through our website and organize our services in a coherent and attention-grabbing way, both in their content and visualization.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were to properly represent the Amatas vision and managed cybersecurity services to experienced security professionals, as well as anyone looking for the development and management of a cybersecurity program for their organization. In addition, our goal was to come up with a new visual representation of our ideas and values we stand behind.

Resolute Software is a part of our group of companies and it was a logical decision for us to work with them for all of our strategic goals such as our new website for the future. In addition, we were very happy with the great communication and professional team at Resolute Software who have many years of experience behind them.

Alongside Resolute Software we were able to jointly rework the presentation of our services, vision and ideas for the development of a new website. They configured, restructured, developed and designed our website making it accessible to a much larger audience and being much more engaging while still reflecting the central concept of Amatas.

What was the team composition?

Resolute Software assigned one of their senior team members as a project lead who would frequently communicate with us during our regular meetings, as well as a number of other people depending on the tasks required at different points of the project. We were also scheduling short meetings every few days with the people responsible for the development, general conceptualization and design of the website.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

This project helped us to finally showcase our services in their fullness. Cybersecurity is an extremely complex topic, however as a result of our joint efforts and the development of our website we are able to present it in a simple and understandable way with our solutions becoming the natural answer to any organization's needs. The Amatas vision was clearly represented and the new website's impact on our sales and marketing was immediately apparent.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The team in charge of our project was very strict with deadlines and organized regular meetings with us to make sure that everything was going as planned. In fact, we decided to rework a large portion of our strategy during the middle of the project and the Resolute Software team was extremely quick and efficient and satisfying our needs.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We were very strongly impressed by the proper management of each team in the company working on our project. In addition, we were happy to see a strong company culture and values being upheld at Resolute Software. Our deadlines were met and our vision truly manifested onto our new website. Resolute Software can be distinguished from other similar vendors in the quality of their team made up of experts in their respective fields, as well as their ability to listen and even exceed our expectations and desires in the delivery of their services.
