Introduce your business and what you do there.
When I worked with PopArt Studio, I was a product manager for advertising and Google Ads at Localist. It was an advertising directory and local reviews site. It’s a mix between YellowPages and Yelp.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with PopArt Studio?
We were in the process of restructuring the company. Thus, we needed to find an outsourced team to redesign our advertising platform system that serves as an online directory for advertisers. There was already a system set up, but it was not functional. We wanted a platform where advertisers and our staff could automatically upload conversion pages.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
PopArt Studio worked as a remote team. They redesigned the advertising platform with JavaScript. The end goal was to create a user-friendly platform that also allowed our staff to publish content. We provided specifications and sketches for what we wanted to achieve, but they developed the mockups and wireframes for the process. Throughout the process, we were able to change designs whenever we needed to. There were many iterations of the project.
What is the team composition?
They had a project manager and a team of developers. I was responsible for managing deliverables and tracking the timelines. We also had a technical director working with them on a day-to-day basis.
How did you come to work with PopArt Studio?
We did research on the Internet. We had a few local companies up for consideration. Everything is expensive in New Zealand, so PopArt Studio’s pricing was quite competitive compared to the local options. After analyzing the pros and cons of remote work, we had a face-to-face meeting and that sealed the deal. We just wanted to make sure that there wouldn’t be any time zone or communication issues. Their previous clients were satisfied and we liked their work portfolio, so we went for it.

The project started in December 2011 and lasted through 2012.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our organization was happy with the finished product. They delivered the work on-time and on budget. It was very user-friendly and simple to use, which was the main requirement due to the resource-heavy nature of the project. Our staff and users needed to be able to input information easily, so it was successful in that respect.
How did PopArt Studio perform from a project management standpoint?
Even though it was remote work, the process was flawless. They were always responsive. Even with the 12-hour time difference, they had people on-call after hours that were available. We used Asana to manage the project.

I’m the managing director of Private Ultrasound Ltd., a medical business in London.

For what projects/services did your company hire PopArt Studio?
Because we’re in a fiercely competitive and saturated market, we needed to stand out from our competitors by employing the best-in-class UX design and development. As such, we approached PopArt Studio to design an appealing website that would allow patients to easily book appointments online.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to create a two-click user journey that made it easier for clients to schedule an appointment at their desired time. The site itself needed to have an appealing, down-to-earth design that people could identify with.

How did you select this vendor?
We considered outsourced agencies outside of the UK market that produced quality work at more affordable prices. We called several companies and selected PopArt Studio for their professionalism and serious approach.

After looking over our branding during the initial discovery phase, PopArt Studio helped us specify our requirements before designing our site. They developed a complex booking tool that allows our clients to conveniently set up appointments. Since then, they’ve worked tirelessly on our SEO and have supported us through a number of relaunches, adding new features such as payment integration. We’re currently planning to do another relaunch.

They’ve assigned a project lead, a UX design team, a development team, and QA specialists.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Our website has become a dominant force in the private ultrasound field, and we rely on the site to operate our business. The interface is intuitive to navigate, the content is informative, and the payment facility is easy to use. Clients also often comment on how simple it is to use the calendar booking function.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
PopArt Studio has been doing a brilliant job for many years now. Professional and approachable, the team answers all of our requests in detail and often does more than we’ve asked. Dejan (Founder, PopArt Studio) in particular is the most pleasant IT professional we’ve come across. He’s always there when we need him and is fully supportive.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I appreciate their good will. They’ve been immensely supportive and professional throughout, and they care about our business. It means a lot that they treat the website as if it were their own. Not to mention, their level of support is priceless.
