Plain & Pixel was hired to architect, design, develop, and deploy the complete digital ecosystem for the NSAT (NIU Student Aptitude Test). We tasked them with completely replacing our manual, paper-based scholarship testing process with a fully automated, highly secure platform capable of handling concurrent live traffic on exam day. The scope required building cross-platform student-facing applications, engineering a resilient backend architecture, and executing complex API integrations with our existing CRM (NoPaperForms) to automate fee verification and eligibility routing. The engagement covered UI/UX design, full-stack development, stringent quality assurance (QA) load testing, and final deployment to production environments.

Key Deliverables

• Cross-Platform Student Portals: The deployment of the official NSAT application for Android (via Google Play Store) and iOS, alongside a fully responsive web portal accessible at nsat.niu.edu.in,. CRM-Integrated Authentication Flow: A custom, gated entry system. Students input their NIU Application ID, which instantly queries NoPaperForms to verify their live fee payment status. Eligible students are then authenticated via secure two-factor verification (Email OTP and WhatsApp OTP).
• Live Exam Engine: A reliable testing environment featuring a synchronized countdown timer, an intuitive question palette for easy navigation, and an auto-submit function when time expires.
• Anti-Cheat & Automated Scoring Mechanisms: The implementation of a crash-safe "single-attempt lock" that strictly limits each student to one test attempt to ensure fairness. Scoring is processed securely on the server side, delivering an instant, detailed results breakdown (correct, wrong, skipped, and net score) to the student upon completion.
• Administrative Control Dashboard: A comprehensive, real-time web dashboard for our admissions and internal teams featuring role-based access control. It includes live exam monitoring statistics, the ability to natively author exams and bulk-import questions via CSV, push notification management, and advanced result filtering with CSV exports,.
• Secure Backend Infrastructure: A highly scalable architecture deployed on Google Cloud (Mumbai region) and Firebase, ensuring absolute data privacy, low latency, and zero downtime under the pressure of concurrent exam takers.

Because they eliminate account managers and have you communicate directly with the technical architects building the platform, our team had to learn to provide very precise, structured feedback. There is no middleman to translate vague requests. While this required a brief learning curve for our administrative staff, it completely eliminated miscommunications and is the exact reason the platform was deployed so rapidly and flawlessly.
