Sentidant AG engaged Otrofy to develop both the mobile app UX/UI and the backend infrastructure for Sentidant ONE, our Swiss-engineered emotionally intelligent smartwatch.

The scope included:

UX/UI (Anna): Designing a premium, intuitive and emotionally engaging mobile app experience, reflecting our brand’s vision and ensuring seamless user flows.

Backend (Serge): Architecting and implementing secure, scalable backend services that integrate real-time biometric data from our smartwatch, manage user accounts, store encrypted emotional state data and connect with cloud services for analytics and backup.

The work required close collaboration with our hardware/firmware engineers and brand team to ensure all technical and user-facing components worked flawlessly together.

What was the scope of Otrofy's involvement, they handled the end-to-end design and backend development for our app:

Design: Created detailed UI screens, design systems and interaction flows. Conducted iterative design reviews to refine aesthetics and usability.

Backend Development: Built APIs, managed database architecture, implemented Bluetooth/BLE integration handling multi-sensor data streams (heart rate, GSR, EDA, movement),and ensured GDPR-compliant encryption and privacy-by-design principles.

Internal and external stakeholders consistently praise the product’s polish and performance, which has directly contributed to building credibility with partners, media and potential Kickstarter backers.

Otrofy’s project management has been excellent. They set clear timelines, organized deliverables into well-defined sprints and consistently met or beat agreed deadlines, even when our requirements evolved mid-project. Communication was transparent and proactive, with regular progress updates and quick responses to questions or feedback, often within hours.

They showed flexibility when priorities shifted, adapting schedules and resources without compromising quality. Importantly, they maintained close coordination between the design (Anna) and backend (Serge) workstreams, ensuring a smooth flow from concept to implementation.

Overall, their responsiveness and reliability gave us complete confidence that critical milestones would be met in time for our November 2025 launch.

I’m the CTO of Chorus Wellness, Inc., a Silicon Valley startup focused on meditation and core sleep.

What challenge were you trying to address with Otrofy?

We hired them to help us develop an iPhone application. We had previously built another iPhone app using a different technology. Although the app was okay, it wasn’t at the quality level we hoped for. Then, we created a sleep app with a different contractor who did a bad job. We brought on Otrofy to clean up the sleep app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Otrofy rebuilt our iPhone app from scratch using Swift, SwiftUI, and iPhone and iPad applications. They created various iterations and helped design the app using Figma. We provided them with designs, and Otrofy helped to improve them.

They configured a revenue cap to deal with subscription payments. Although they didn’t write the backend, Otrofy helped us design, develop, and debug the backend API. The team also gave us product feedback, ideas, and technology-related business advice. 

Additionally, Otrofy helped us with app store optimization (ASO) and some light marketing through our own networks. We structured a lot of the app’s language and content in the App Store, and Otrofy helped us with that.

What is the team composition?

My main points of contact at Otrofy were Serge (CEO & Co-Founder) and his wife. 

How did you come to work with Otrofy?

We found them through Upwork. I interviewed Serge, and we looked at some code together. From that interview, I could tell that he really knew what he was doing, so we decided to work with Otrofy and bring in Serge as a full-time contractor.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent about $83,000 with Otrofy. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from January–December 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Otrofy did a great job of turning the project around. The app is structured for business users, so it’s not a consumer app. Our main metric for success is that we now have over 50 business partners, which is really good. When we sell to businesses, we aim for a 30% adoption rate, which the app accomplishes. Our retention rate for those users is 50%.

Moreover, Serge was one of the best programmers I’ve worked with. He was really good at mobile app development because he specializes in Apple software development. Serge provided a lot more than just code; he helped us with best practices coming up in the industry. His knowledge outside of just programming was really important for us as a startup.

How did Otrofy perform from a project management standpoint?

They were good at project management. In terms of on-time delivery, Otrofy was incredibly reliable. They worked week by week, trying to deliver as much as possible within that timeframe, so we didn’t have specific third-party deadlines. Still, Otrofy never missed an internal deadline. 

They were always available and didn’t miss any work; Serge could always hop on a phone call, even though he had a fixed schedule. We used Slack, Zoom, and email for communication. For project management, we used Asana and Figma; the latter was excellent for communicating about design. We also used Google Docs for documentation. Overall, Otrofy was very professional. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed with the high-quality product Otrofy built, which set them apart from other providers. Many companies can build a React Native product that looks good very quickly. However, when users start using it, it’s not as good as it looked on the surface. Meanwhile, Otrofy built a native product that works the way it looks — it looks amazing. 

Otrofy was at the cutting edge of development, which was important to us. We needed to be sure whether the ideas we were testing worked and whether it was because of the concept itself or the implementation. Thanks to Otrofy, we didn’t have to worry about that. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The one thing we could have improved in our partnership was doing more upfront planning and requirements review. This issue isn’t something Otrofy did wrong; as a team, we needed to take a step back and confirm the requirements. Most of this is on my co-fonder and me because we were trying to move quickly, and sometimes we had different ideas than what we communicated. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Give Otrofy a chance to give you some feedback. Companies that hire agencies or contracting firms often tell them what to do and don’t really listen to their feedback. We got excellent feedback from Otrofy, so I advise taking some extra time to listen to what they have to say because they might really help the product.

I am the owner of a startup that is focusing on creating hockey themed games for children and young adults. I am working towards creating a variety of game types that include board games, mobile applications, voice assistant skills and immersive media.

I searched online for Mobile Application Development agencies that have experience building mobile games and working with start-ups. There were many to choose from, but Otrofy's profile on Clutch, their portfolio on their site and their delivery approach got them shortlisted. After reviewing proposals from other agencies, it was an easy decision to go ahead with Otrofy. They hit the mark on expertise, delivery approach and cost.

The end to end approach was solid. Discovery, design, development and testing phases all went smoothly. Communication throughout was prompt and clear. The key deliverables included UX design mockups and the working mobile app. There were several steps leading up to each deliverable including dicovery and requirements reviews which helped refine the feature set and UX into a very marketable MVP.

With further consultation, we were able to agree on a project outline and budget which was within our reach. Otro's great introductory rates definitely helped make our project possible on a limited budget.

Otro Games helped us take our project from concept to reality. We had a product in mind, and Otro worked with us to organize and assemble the pieces we needed to create our end product.

Otro created a customized back-end for our app, and we created a front-end to integrate with what they built.

Some of what was included: server setup, user database, secure authenticated user logins, user profiles, lists of users, highly custom event management controllers, repo management, and secure integration with PayPal and Twilio.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Otro Games delivered everything we requested within a very reasonable amount of time, and within a moderate fixed budget. The results we were expecting to see from our deliverables is exactly what we received and are now using.

During development, If we had any issues, Otro was there to help solve them. In the end Otro provided the functional backbone of our fairly complex app design.

Our project was well managed and organized in a professional manner. We worked together to create a unified plan based on our specific requirements.

That plan was executed within an agreed time frame and budget and within a confidentiality agreement as well. Otro met our expected timelines, budgetary expectations and maintained confidentiality during this process.

After speaking with some other developers with mixed results, I was lucky to learn that this local game developer was assisting others to build apps.

After a personal meeting to discuss our concept, Otro impressed with suggesting how to simplify our initial product to reduce the overall budget and timeline.

Otro Games was a pleasure to work with because they understood our vision right away and had the knowledge and skills to work closely with us to bring it to reality.

Some technical concepts and functions were difficult to understand at times. These were remedied with further communication and research.

We ultimately came to a good process for Quality Assurance testing. Budgeting for QA or having your own QA team will help to discover any issues prior to including beta testers or paid subscribers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Otrofy?

We needed to update our mobile application on both platforms. We hadn't updated our apps since 2018.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Otrofy updated our iOS and Android app from its 2018 version, which was developed by a different team. A few updates were required, so the app had to undergo 4–5 different updates for each platform. Although I'm not sure about the entire update process, Otrofy's work included testing the app to ensure any glitches or problems were corrected.

What is the team composition?

We worked with Anna (COO) and Serge (CEO & Co-Founder). I believe Serge was the only one working on the updates, and Anna was the administrator and took care of our correspondence.

How did you come to work with Otrofy?

I researched online for various development firms and found Otrofy. I looked into the firm and called them. I spoke with Anna, and we had a very good interview. After a second interview, I decided to go with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2024 — it only took about a month to complete the project. However, they had to wait for me to deliver the source code for the app. Serge only required two solid weeks of work to complete the project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Otrofy did an excellent job, and I'm very happy with their work. The applications worked perfectly, and there were no glitches or bugs.

How did Otrofy perform from a project management standpoint?

As mentioned, Serge finished the work in two weeks, which was very efficient. The team waited for me to deliver the source code, so they were the ones who waited for me, not me for them. The communication was excellent as well. Otrofy kept me informed about the progress, and ultimately, I was satisfied with the result. We mainly communicated through email and phone calls.

In addition to that, Otrofy offered a very reasonable price, and their work was excellent. I will continue working with them in the future, as they'll update my app again when needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Ultimately, Otrofy's work was outstanding. Any company can have a good name and good advertising, and any company can pay for good reviews. However, the most important part is the work they do. Otrofy delivered great work, and I was very pleased with the results; I'm glad I found them!

Serge's work was genuine, and everything came from him. He's a great developer. He's young, intelligent, and capable. I know that he employs others, but he was the one who worked directly on my project. Throughout the engagement, he was very personable, polite, genuine, and honest, as well as very hardworking.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was nothing they could improve on. I can't say enough good things about them.

I recommend working with them. You don't have to do anything differently; Otrofy will be there and will respond very quickly.

We came to Otrofy with a low-code app that was built in Flutter flow. They helped us develop additional functionality but also suggested a refactor based on our development and business goals. This was the right advice and Otrofy developed a fresh and clean UI/UX design.

The app is nearly complete and the design and layout are much better than the original version. As such, we are more confident and in a much better place in going to the market.
