I’m a line producer for film, TV, media web series, music videos, and so on. I created a fintech startup for film production. I wanted to create a tool to budget, track costs, and track HR better.

What challenge were you trying to address with Orangesoft?

I made my own tool in Google Sheets, and it eventually came to the point where I wanted to make it into a SaaS product. There were no software tools that did TV and film production budgeting. Effects technology in the industry has evolved.

Even project management and script breakdown tools are pretty good, but there still wasn’t sufficient technology for managing budgetary items for film and TV production especially in the non-union, lower-budget world. There are thousands of movies and videos being made for less than one million dollars, and there’s no software to help with budgets.

I wanted to make a tool to help them, but I’m not a CTO or software producer. I wanted to see if there was a way to do it by channeling other resources, which, in this case, are time and money. The first thing my business coach told me was that I should find a CTO, but the first thing I wanted to find out was how much money it would take to make software like this.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with a kickoff meeting, where I presented my Google sheet to Orangesoft. They understood the idea of it easily, and we had a lot of progress over a one-hour phone call. I gave them a lot of documents to read, representing months of work and thinking. I basically journaled ideas for the SaaS, and Orangesoft broke those down into line items. They broke the MVP down into three levels and sent me a budget in Google Sheets, which is my tool of choice.

What is the team composition?

Alexander (Co-Founder & COO) was my main contact along with Galina (UI/UX Designer). I talked to their accountant and to another co-founder about the invoicing process.

How did you come to work with Orangesoft?

My business coach introduced me to Alexander. I explained my product idea to him and showed him the Google Sheets tool.

The initial quote they sent me was very intuitive and included consulting in it. I learned a lot from it in terms of what I needed to prioritize, how long it would take, and how much things would cost. It was really valuable knowledge for a non-IT person, and it’s what made me decide to work with them. Orangesoft got what I was trying to accomplish, and they gave me ideas like making a comparison function. 

I also mentioned Orangesoft to my brother, who works for a large telecom in Turkey, and he said he’d heard good things about them. He was on the other side of the world, so I couldn’t believe it, but Orangesoft had developed an app for his company. That also convinced me.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with Orangesoft in June 2020. I took a break in October 2020 for career reasons and resumed the engagement in December 2020. We’ve finished the first two design iterations, but I’ll continue to make improvements until I have something that’s close to a final version. The project is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It has saved me an enormous amount of time to have a designer. Orangesoft didn’t just do what I told them to, they also questioned my ideas and gave great suggestions. They did it in an empathic way and didn’t try to rip me off, even though I didn’t understand software development. They feel like my strategic partner.

How did Orangesoft perform from a project management standpoint?

I looked bad compared to them. They were fast, and the time zone difference proved beneficial. I’d give them feedback, and it’d be implemented by the next day when I woke up.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s the way they broke down what was in my mind, both in tech language and in laymen’s terms. That showed me that they have a great understanding of what they do and of how tech products work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve followed up more with me, but I also didn’t give them the space to do that because of an opportunity I got in October 2020. As I work with them more, I may have something to say, but I’ve had a good first impression so far.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Because of the time difference, it may not be possible to have a phone chat anytime the client wants. In order to make up for that, I’ve recorded videos using Loom, which allows me to record my screen and my face at the same time. I’ve used that more than email. I’ve given them tons of screenshots, with arrows and notations, and sent them videos on how film budgeting works. I’m sure they’d wake up if I asked them to because we’ve had meetings at 8 p.m. their time.

I am the Product owner at a company which develop pico-projector for kids. Our company has about 60 employees and we do full stack development of our product, from hardware engineering to software.

Inside our projector we use custom OS and need to integrate notification system with backend and frontend control. We are hire Orangesoft for frontend development. We haven't enough in-house developers for this task and need to launch it ASAP.

Main goals — got a new channel to communicate with our users. Which allow us to notify them about new content and other stuff, like charge date.

We are working with OrangeSoft early. They help us to develop one game and refactor a code of other our app. In this time we asked about price, compare it with other and choice OrangeSoft.

After select partner we are describe base user story and send it. Few days later, we got timeline with resource distribution. The best experience which I'm got, that Orangesoft assume by self undesribed question and provide self solution for it. It strong help for us and accelerate process.

Finally we got 1 project manager who close up more than 90% of questions. And we have 2 developers with QA engineer. Developers could specify details of API from our dev-team.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We integrate solution to our core and now increase base metrics up to 15%. Our base is usage frequency and time spend to choice new content.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was very easy. Our manager is Anastasiya, can reply on any our question less than 1 hour. Every week we sync progress and got intermediate build demo. When development is finished, we got full test map with results.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Time! I'm impressed by how quickly we got results on every task. Planing - we got timeline on next day. Design and discuss about user story — let's call today and show result after 3 days. Development - 1 week later we got first build. Decomposition - is most powerful area of Orangesoft.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Sometimes we had to wait for them to free up resources. This means that if you are going to do something, plan it first.

We needed to develop a mobile app for our service, which until then was only available on the web.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted an MVP of an iOS app that replicated the functionality of the website, but would have an improved UX flow, handle user accounts and some other new features.

We sent RFPs to 15-20 vendors and received around 10 relevant proposals we could compare. Orange soft offered the best mix of competence and price.

They provided a Swift developer and a local project manager who worked as part of a distributed team. The work was agile and was carried out on several fronts in parallel.

Orangesoft's employees worked together with a local back-end developer, a product manager, a lead iOS developer and a design agency.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

This project was of great strategic importance and was supposed to bring our product to a new level. Unfortunately, we ran out of funding before it could be completed and had to abort.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Since Orangesoft's participation was embedded in a larger team, project management was our own responsibility. We did, however, get support from Orangesoft's top management whenever needed.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were very flexible and accommodating to our sometimes rather unusual needs and circumstances. Unlike many other vendors I have experience with, they are very trusting and prepared to take risks for the sake of building a solid business relationship. They have very high competence standards while being friendly and familiar at the same time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Can't really think of anything that wasn't purely contextual.

I was a digital media expert for a healthcare nonprofit organization. I joined an initiative called CTFK (Campaign Tobacco-Free Kids) that focused on decreasing tobacco consumption in Russia following a new law.

What challenge were you trying to address with Orangesoft?

We needed to build an application. We wanted to make the public aware of the new law and monitor violations.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided Orangesoft with information and described our main goal, which was to monitor public violations of the new tobacco law. They helped us with analytics and made suggestions for the platform. Their team presented sketches and charts to help develop the product.

Orangesoft developed the app for iOS and Android. They implemented features for users to report violations quickly and easily without needing to fill out any documents. Their team also built GPS functions. Based on a user’s location, their reports are sent to local law enforcement.

What is the team composition?

I interacted with 2–4 people including an account manager and a designer. They also had a number of developers on their team.

How did you come to work with Orangesoft?

We chose them because we appreciated their enthusiasm for the project. The Orangesoft team displayed a passion for the ban on public smoking.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together between February—May 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our main KPI for this project was the number of violation reports gained. In the first month, users made hundreds of reports. In the following months, reports continued to increase.

Their team helped to create a useful tool for the public to report violations. The app also gave important feedback to authorities on the importance of law enforcement.

How did Orangesoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Orangesoft was organized. When we weren’t certain about what we needed or wanted, they helped us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They communicated with us clearly. Their team brought many ideas to the table.

Share as much information as possible. They’re out-of-the-box thinkers and can help to develop your vision.

What challenge were you trying to address with Orangesoft?

I needed help with some bigger development projects. Our company was two months old when I got the request from a German doctor to develop his application’s MVP. We only had a developer and a sales person in-house.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Orangesoft developed the doctor’s Android application and white-labeled it. I was the product owner. I wrote the product backlog; it was a simple algorithm to develop an automized work safety report. That project took place 15 months ago.

They’re helping us on another big project that involves building a database for a warehouse in Germany. We’ve developed a web app and a big database using PHP, Laravel 6, HTML, and CSS. Now, we’re continuing with an iOS app for those who don’t have internet but have to work with the product.

I work with the COO and two project managers. I’m not in touch with the technicians.

I’m a former consultant in the IT business, and I found out about them through my network.

We started working together in March 2019. The first project, which was only an MVP, took 4–5 weeks. The second project started in August 2019, and we delivered the first functioning software that December. Now, we’re adding features and reacting to the client’s needs.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The first client was satisfied with what Orangesoft delivered. They react quickly to issues. If bugs arise later on down the road, they help us solve them. They’re very helpful.

How did Orangesoft perform from a project management standpoint?

I’d give them 7.5 out of 10. They handle the technical side, and I help with project management. I participate in the big meetings. Communication is good. We were behind on the deadline because the client proposed changes. We use email based on client preferences, but I don’t know what Orangesoft uses internally.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Orangesoft is client-centered. They listen and try to develop what you want. They’re a very agile and flexible company.

There could be more automizing in testing.

We started with them in November 2019. They finished the module in January 2020 but remain with us on a retainer.

Orangesoft researched the subject and understood our project. Their team made aspects of the project better than expected. I provided them with quite loose technical specifications. Their team was able to shape up the product and make it better than I thought it could be.

How did Orangesoft perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great with deadlines and communication. This project was one of the smoothest projects I’ve experienced so far.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They filled in the specification gaps and delivered a great outcome. I wasn’t able to provide exact descriptions for what we needed. They filled in a lot of those pieces, which was quite convenient. We’re going to work with them on other projects.

We have in-house developers but needed additional support in mobile app development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

There are several apps we’re working on; one app is a voice and text translator. Another app helps people to record their calls. We have other apps for 3-D coloring, flight simulation, and sticker creation. Orangesoft has helped us materialize all of these platforms for both iOS and Android.

We provide their team with product designs, and they integrate these graphics into the frontend. Of course, they handle all the backend development as well.

We're a loyalty marketing company called Liquid Barcodes. We provide loyalty apps for convenience and foodservice retailers around the world.

What challenge were you trying to address with Orangesoft?

We’ve subcontracted a number of different partners over the years and contracted Orangesoft to change our process.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Orangesoft’s building an extension of our platform. They’re building an API between apps. Once we've covered all of our APIs, we will be able to deliver apps to the market more quickly.

These apps have a variety of functions. For example, they can be stamp codes, points space, loyalty subscriptions, gift cards, net promoter score, simple games such as scratch cards.

Orangesoft also helps to create iOS and Android platforms. They’re using Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS development. Their first project was to build a copy of a complex backend app for our client. We’re in the midst of completing platform development for multiple apps.

What is the team composition?

They have 12 developers working with us right now.

How did you come to work with Orangesoft?

We had a long-term partner in Minsk, so our developers knew of Orangesoft. We were looking at finding and identifying the right partner for us. We needed a partner that could not only build an app but also an app platform as an extension to our platform. We benchmarked them against three other agencies, but they came out as for sure the best fit for us.

We’ve spent between €100,000­–€200,000 (approximately $108,300–$216,600 USD) euros on their services so far.

We started working together in January 2020 and the project’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Orangesoft’s deliveries meet our expectations for quality. It was easy to see that their first app was even better than the original platform. It was nicer and performed better. Their app also felt more robust and engaging. They implemented animations that the first platform didn’t have. I haven’t regretted our decision to work with them in any way.

How did Orangesoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Organgesoft’s professional and transparent. Their team uses Teamwork and Figma that allow us to collaborate well. Figma facilitates the design process well because it allows us to comment. It also allows our customers to navigate apps before they’re launched.

They stick to the timeline and cost estimations. Their team’s on time with milestones. They make good use of Google Docs for estimations and questions from developers that we can respond do. Their team’s able to be quick and agile.

Their senior developers read up on the documentation and ask the right questions. There’s less handholding than we experienced with other developers.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their responsiveness was an important factor in our decision to work with them. They’re a good match for our way of working. Their team matches our desire to be quick and support our customers. They have a skillful team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their services could always be cheaper, but their prices are quite competitive. It’s been a bigger investment to move to them. We had hidden costs for us to save bad development from our previous provider. Once the platform development’s done, we’ll be able to deliver apps more efficiently.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Scope projects clearly so that expectations are clear for all parties. Also, Figma’s a good tool to create screens. Use it as a starting point. When you create a screen and keep it in PowerPoint, you’re not necessarily interacting with it enough before the development starts.

I work in the product development department of a media platform, overseeing several mobile apps and a website.

Our previous iOS app had a low rating and reviews were filled with negative customer feedback. Our brand was suffering from the app’s poor performance and low user engagement and needed an all-new iOS app as well as its first Android app.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal was to build an iOS and Android app that would double the number of active users by the end of the year and increase user engagement.

How did you select this vendor?

I considered local companies first but found them too expensive. Then I found Orangesoft on Clutch. I was considering about 4 or 6 other development teams, but Orangesoft has impressive experience in mobile app development and offered a competitive price.

Describe the project in detail.

Orangesoft designed and built native iOS and Android apps, including frontend design, the implementation of existing backend APIs and app testing. The new features included the comment section and the possibility to save articles to favorites and read them later even being offline. Once the project was complete, we hired Orangesoft for post-launch support.

We worked with one project manager, one designer, five developers, and one QA engineer.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within 3 months after our new app was launched, the number of daily active users of the app doubled. The iOS app — previously a 1-star rated app — surged to a 4-star average, with the newer versions achieving a rating close to 5. The new Android version of the app has achieved a 4.8 average rating.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We had regular Skype meetings and I received progress reports and demo versions of the app. We used Trello and Jira for task management.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed by their level of communication and openness. It feels like they’re an extension of our team, and I can contact them at any time with any questions. What's more, we had a direct line of communication with their CEO and CTO if needed.

Are there any areas for improvement?

It was sometimes difficult to reach my project manager since we operate in different time zones.

Without the development there wouldn't be any business. The guys from Orangesoft were flexible and quick.

the project management was great. They kept all deadlines except one but the delay was well communicated in advance and wasn't avoidable.

As mentioned above...fast, flexible, communicative and always striving to do everything necessary to help the customer.
