We had decided to refresh our website as the platform we were on wasn't scaling well.  We asked to have the website replicated as well as we brought in many changes that we had been wanting to do for a long time to make the marketplace more approachable and usable.  We also wanted an application for our contractors to use plus a loyalty app for those customers that use our platform more often.  This included integrating with SAAS software (prebuilt) plus building out customized platform that met our requirements.

Muhammad and his team were very responsive to our requests.  Our scope did expand throughout the beginning of the project so we did not have the original go live date that we had planned on but the improvements to the site were worth the later roll out date.  As with any rollout, there were some issues but his team worked extremely hard and long hours to correct and the site is functioning well today.  We have uncovered more items that we would like to do that we couldn't do in the old marketplace and are working with Muhammad and his team to develop and roll those out as well.

They worked tirelessly to get us where we are today and made great suggestions to some items that we could have had issues with.  Great communications, willingness to meet whenever we needed to and continuing to improve the website are huge reasons why we will continue to utilize their team.

Their dedication.  They worked tirelessly through the first weeks of the rollout to correct any issues that we found and were always positive and helpful.  They responded in a timely manner and are a pleasure to work with.  They continue to work with us as we find unexpected bugs as we continue to utilize the various parts of the system and meet with us daily to go over progress and next steps.

Are there any areas for improvement or something O16 Labs could have done differently?

This is a hard one.  Perhaps spent a bit more time learning the old website as some of the items that worked well in the old site were complex and not easily translated to work correctly in the new site.  We did have some instances where QA didn't fully test to see what was all affected when they fixed one item but again- new functionality and new outcomes- their willingness to jump right into fix things until we were happy with the result was a substantial reason why we see a future working with them on new improvements to the site.

The main objective of this project is to create an on-demand service platform (Android and iOS App + Web App) for users (Clients) that allows them to book any service available on the platform anytime. Service providers (Admin of Service Provider) will be assigned the bookings by the admin and they will further assign them to Worker who will fulfill the user (Clients) requirements. Administrators of the platform will be able to manage the users, bookings, Payments, and all the other platform components.

Process for Project Development For development, we are enthusiastic about Agile methodology. It enables us to collaborate among in-house teams, and also with clients and offers the possibility of rapid iterations to adapt to change. Transparency is also kept intact across the board and live updates are always possible due to working in sprints. Once the development is complete, the app goes into the final testing environment. The overall outcome of the platform built by O16 Labs is much better than initially expected. All the functionalities I wished for were implemented and even more. The platform is working at appropriate speed even when filling it with lots of data. The UI and UX are user friendly and exactly as I imagined them to be.

Catastrophic. Week after another, sprint after another, there was no progress whatsoever, but regular harrassment around payments. We had a very clear agreement that ties the payments to milestones achieved, but contracts mean nothing to O16 Labs. This was a horrendous traumatising experience.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Nothing unique or impressive. This is mainly a 1-man-show, managed by a rude unprofessional person who only knows one thing: send me money for the nothing that I have delivered so far.

Are there any areas for improvement or something O16 Labs could have done differently?

My review of O16 Labs is that they are an extremely unprofessional software development company that failed to deliver on their promises. They consistently showed a lack of respect for meetings, were never punctual, and failed to deliver anything despite multiple sprints over a prolonged period.

Despite their lack of progress, they continued to demand payment, often using aggressive and threatening language. When we tried to hold them accountable for their lack of progress, they responded with insults and unprofessional emails, making it clear that they were not interested in resolving the issue in a constructive manner.

Overall, my experience with O16 Labs was extremely negative, and I would not recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and professional software development company.

What was the scope of their involvement?

O16 Labs build a mobile app for iOS and Android with an administration panel. This product was specifically aimed at PCR testing for COVID-19 certification. At the time, digital COVID-19 certificates didn’t exist yet, so we were working with a large laboratory provider. Through this app, people could scan the QR code on their PCR test to match it to the system, and the user would then receive a COVID-19 certificate back.

We worked with two people from O16 Labs: the CEO and the CTO.

We chose O16 Labs over their competitors because they were able to deliver our MVP for a very reasonable price within a very reasonable timeline. During the vetting process, we could also see they really wanted to work with us; they cared for the project and fought to win the business.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thanks to O16 Labs’ help, we were the first ones to offer a product like that worldwide. The product they delivered was functional, so we were able to go to market, which was our ultimate goal.

How did O16 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

O16 Labs was good at sticking to the deadlines; they delivered almost everything on time and pulled weekend shifts when needed. Their communication was also good, and they were very responsive. Whenever something was wrong, they tried to fix it as soon as possible.

We used Trello to manage the project. O16 Labs was very diligent in adding all the information there and keeping track of what was happening.

What did you find most impressive about them?

O16 Labs’ availability to meet our demands and answer our questions was impressive, as was their ability to build an MVP in a very short time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

O16 Labs’ UI/UX designs and attention to detail needed improvement. To us, it all came down to discovering whether clients were interested in a service like that and whether it would be easy enough to use it. However, O16 Labs delivered a product with a mediocre UI/UX; we had to point out a lot of things. Additionally, we found a lot of bugs they had to fix.

It would be great if they thought about problems from a broader perspective. We constantly felt that we had to be on top of everything all the time so that they didn’t miss anything due to their lack of attention to detail.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Communication is key. If they understand what you want, they’ll do a good job delivering. When explaining your project to them, make them explain it back to you to ensure that they understand what you want them to do.

What challenge were you trying to address with O16 Labs?

We wanted to generate a new token that could eliminate transaction fees and increase our growth. For that, we needed to develop a mobile app that works on both iOS and Android, so we hired O16 Labs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

O16 Labs developed an iOS and Android app for us using React Native. A lot of things were changing in the backend from a business logic perspective, so we didn’t want to stitch in AWS and make costs go up exponentially. What we wanted to do from an architecture perspective was to do the backend later, so the first thing O16 Labs did was to layer in the UI of the app. This involved the newsfeed, maps, digital wallet, metrics, and performance data. 

The team then tested the frontend and made sure that the crypto functionalities were in place. We’re currently finalizing the backend of the application and integrating Stripe, AWS, Polygon smart contract, Google Maps, Foursquare, and other APIs into it. We have another team taking on the blockchain work, but O16 is doing their part in it as well.

I mainly work with three people: one of the co-founders, a person who manages the development team, and another member who is the actual designer. They also have different project managers that I can speak to to get my needs addressed.

I found them on several online freelancer platforms and through referrals from my network. We reached out to a number of different developers and found that O16 Labs was best suited to our needs.

We started working together around December 2020, and the project is still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thus far, we only have good feedback for the work that O16 Labs has done. We’ve delayed the launch of the app as we have switched over to a hybrid blockchain solution, but the team has met all of my expectations and deadlines. There have been bugs here and there on the app, but those are unavoidable. There haven’t been any major crashes either. 

How did O16 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is on par with that of bigger development companies. O16 Labs is incredibly responsive and accommodating. We never have an issue with not being able to connect with them. They’re also great at meeting timelines. 

We meet regularly every week and we usually correspond via Upwork, WhatsApp, and Zoom. We collaborate on Google Slides as well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

O16 Labs has been doing full-stack development for years and it has provided them with a good level of understanding of development processes, timelines, and tools. That expertise, along with their strong project management skills, has been important to what I’m trying to do. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

O16 Labs has been phenomenal at React Native development, but I’ve been talking to them about expanding their services to cover Web3 development. They are perfectly aware of this gap and are working on it, and we are looking forward to them building their blockchain expertise so we can use them even more.

A lot of people will approach a developer with a half-baked idea, so be sure to go to O16 Labs with a clear concept of what you want. Be flexible as well because their team is sure to adopt any plans you’ve already formed.

We hired O16 Labs to help with the development of our seizure mornitoring application for iPhone/Apple Watch, and management of it through the App Store. Moreover, O16 Labs handled customer service issues as they arose, and were responsive to every software/hardware issue that we had.

They have far exceeded our expectations over the last two years....especially during the pandemic when things were challenging for everyone. I’m the Co-Founder and Digital Communications Director of Bet Comrade, an affiliate network agency for the iGaming and betting industry.

We hired O16 Labs to help with the design, development, and implementation of our website and mobile application – we were looking to develop something that is both iOS and Android compatible, user-friendly, and structurally sound, hence O16 labs seemed like the perfect fit.

Never failing to deliver top quality assistance with any issues that might come up during the undoubtedly complex and rather demanding process of developing a mobile application from scratch – a process that became even more challenging by the global outbreak of the pandemic.

O16 labs’ commitment, hard work and skillful contributions to our work hands-down exceeded our expectations, and we greatly appreciate their consistent input and timely feedback. Our key deliverables included the mobile app design, API connection back-office design and development of the entire app, using React native & firebase as our main technological tools.

From day one, Arsalan and his team have been consistently available to chat with us, answer our questions effectively and troubleshoot all the while producing excellent work regarding the development of the app and delivering each task that was requested of them in a coherent and timely manner.

Our exchange with 016 labs has consisted of a combination of different communication tools, including scheduled weekly calls (though, suffice to say that the team has been consistently available to chat online with us on a 24/7 basis, as well as to arrange ad-hoc calls as needs be really), and online communication through project management platforms like trello and Slack.

The team's technical skills regarding mobile application design & development, as well as their impeccable communication and response times, truly exceeded our expectations.

Perhaps a more consistent series of status reports along each step of the process could have been helpful during the initial project planning stage.
