Project title: Ongoing web platform development and maintenance.

NUS Technology placed a dedicated developer to take care of my project. He sends a daily report with every task and the hours behind it, which we track against our Jira board. Between October 2024 and June 2025 alone, he logged about 660 hours across 60 tickets. Key deliverables: designer and fabricator portfolio exports to PDF; email confirmation for new sign-ups; project notifications for new designs, quotes, and comments; drag-and-drop photo management with upload progress bars and image zoom; social sharing with Open Graph previews, plus likes and project sorting; protecting paid STL files from being downloaded before purchase; admin tools for managing project status; and Apple Pay plus a Heroku stack upgrade.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

The platform has stayed stable and up to date while features ship steadily, usually tested on staging and pushed to production within days. Between October 2024 and June 2025 alone, roughly 660 hours were logged across 60 Jira tickets. Most recently, gaps we found in our new public API and AI-agent documentation (llms.txt) were fixed and live the same day.

Our initial scope was for a log-in, ability to have subscriptions and industry level management of users. We wanted documents of all formats, google docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDFs that are tagged and untagged able to be updated to be brought to ADA standards by adding AltText to images and headers to documents. The product has extended beyond this thanks to the help of the NUS team. We have an in-house built ADA scanner and the ability to update documents on the UI to ensure meeting requirements. The team is working on more robust analytics for the company admin (mostly colleges) to check the users documents and ensure they are up to par. 

We are looking to also tie into the two main education systems in the future. The team is responsive with escalations and updates where needed. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Improved documents to meet ADA requirements. Given the ability to update untagged PDFs this also benefits with older documents and ensuring ease of use. 

Even with being in opposing time zones, we were able to meet weekly and discuss updates and needs over chat. They are very responsive and notify when they'll be off. Everything fell into line in a timely fashion and we were able to launch in a reasonable amount of time.

NUS Technology handles everything from frontend to backend development and API integration. There hasn’t been a feature or task we’ve given them that they couldn’t handle. For example, they’ve helped us build a custom gift basket builder where customers can select the items they want in their box. They’ve also built a feature called GiftDrop, which is a way to digitally send a gift via text or email, and recipients can input the best address for delivery. Most recently, they’ve helped us develop our pro platform geared toward our corporate clients who are looking to order hundreds of gifts at a time.

A significant number of the requested features required custom development and were outside standard implementations. This led to detailed discussions and iterative refinement to ensure the end-user experience met expectations. The team showed adaptability and willingness to engage in deeper technical exploration when required, which was essential given the complexity of the platform.

In terms of timelines and budget management, while many core deliverables were successfully implemented, some tasks extended beyond initial budget estimates. At times, communication regarding scope expansion and associated cost implications was not as proactive or transparent as it could have been. This created challenges in managing cash flow and planning release timelines for new features. Greater upfront clarity around cost impacts, scope changes, and potential overruns would improve financial forecasting and project planning moving forward.

Overall, the team has been supportive and solutions-focused, delivering a sophisticated and technically complex software platform. Strengthening budget forecasting and proactive cost communication would further enhance an otherwise strong working relationship and project delivery process.

What I have found most impressive about this company is the consistency and stability of their team. The core developers involved at the beginning of the project have remained engaged throughout the lifecycle of the build, which has provided continuity, deep product understanding, and stronger long-term alignment with the platform vision.

Having a stable team meant that knowledge was retained, decisions were contextual, and progress was not disrupted by turnover. This continuity has been particularly valuable given the complexity and custom nature of the software being developed. It has allowed for more informed discussions, a stronger understanding of the product’s evolution, and ultimately a more cohesive end result.

1. More Structured Project Check-Ins
Establishing at least monthly strategic meetings to review project status, priorities, budget position, and upcoming deliverables would improve alignment and forward planning. A consistent cadence of progress reviews would provide greater visibility into timelines and reduce uncertainty around feature development stages.

2. Clearer Release Roadmap & Timeline Forecasting
Having a documented roadmap with projected release dates for features would significantly assist in managing customer expectations. Greater clarity around anticipated delivery timeframes would allow for more effective communication with clients and better coordination of marketing and launch activities.

3. Pre-Release Testing & Staging Visibility
Notification for the testing on the staging environments prior to live deployment — or alternatively, detailed walkthrough videos demonstrating completed functionality — would allow for earlier feedback before features go live. This would help ensure the end-user experience fully aligns with expectations and reduce the need for post-release refinements.
