I’m the managing director of an occupational health and hygiene company. We provide occupational health screening services to businesses across the UK. It’s a lot of B2B work doing things like urine, breathing, respiratory hazard tests. We support people who are going back to work after a sickness absence.

What challenge were you trying to address with NewRedo Ltd.?

We used to be spreadsheet-oriented, and the work started becoming very inaccurate, cumbersome, and there was a lot of duplication. NewRedo came on board to help us address this and create a custom solution.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a bespoke portal that does everything from appointment bookings to recall to record keeping. It also gives us management information for customers and keeps a tab on all invoicing. They’ve taken our workflow and put it into a bespoke database with all the securities needed for medical records.

Everyone in the office can use it, and it’s accessible in the office as well as in our mobile vans. We can get instant access to all the information we need and also store it securely. The portal is accessible through a web browser.

What is the team composition?

There’s a small team led by a senior developer. In the exploration phase, there were two main individuals, and we’re currently working with 3–4 programmers. The team size has fluctuated as the project has progressed.

How did you come to work with NewRedo Ltd.?

Our team looked around and interviewed different vendors. We were looking for somebody who could listen and knew what we were talking about. They gave us confidence in their reliability.

We’ve invested about £160,000 (approximately $204,000 USD).

Our ongoing engagement started in June 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The system has improved our efficiencies to the degree where we’re not picking up thousands of hours of additional work that we were losing as a result of the spreadsheets and the inaccuracies they were producing.

We’re now able to compete with the big players in our sector. Feedback from tenders is that the portal is simple and easy to use. Our customers like it, especially because it has sped up the time it takes to get information from us.

How did NewRedo Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re very flexible and have worked during the evenings and weekends when needed. The mass transfer from the old system to the new one took only five days. They were just on it. There weren’t any issues. We’ve had one glitch with the system, but they resolved it within the same day. I’ve really pleased with them, and I’m a tough customer.

We tracked everything on Trello as well as communicated over the phone, technology, and in-person. We hold meetings to catch up and see where we are. They’ve adapted to us when they’ve needed to.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve gotten to know our workflow and consider the users when building the software. An example of this is how they worked to reduce clicks so the user could go through a streamlined journey. They do their best to meet our needs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I’m happy with what they’re doing. We have a good relationship, and they take feedback really well.

Make sure you communicate and understand what they understood. Recognize that they’re thinking from a different point of view and make sure to give them a chance to clarify.

Our managing director and friend died suddenly this past January. We were left not knowing how to continue the technical side of the website because we do the editing and sales but had no idea how to utilize the software to carry the overall system on and make amendments.

They’ve taken over the maintenance and development of the clinical information system we have. We had an initial problem where we couldn’t get it to upload the most recent version. Their team went in and managed to resolve that immediately. Going forward, they now provide ongoing support so we can carry on with the website while making improvements and modernizing it.

If it weren’t for NewRedo Ltd­­., we wouldn’t have been able to provide the essential up-to-date information that our clients need. They’ve made it possible for us to put our products out there.

They’re very professional and know what they’re talking about. That has been a huge reassurance to us because none of our internal team members could do what our former managing director did. Having NewRedo Ltd. come in, know what they’re talking about, go in and investigate, and then fix our system has been a huge relief.

We couldn’t find anyone else who could’ve done exactly what they do. They’re really clued up on the backend part of things.

New Redo came on board to enable us to develop a backend web API for a number of our titles across a number of different platforms.

They provided two onsite web developers, helping to solidify the API and backend systems we needed to deploy for the technology we were developing.

We’d worked with NewRedo previously on another item of work previously, and they did a very good job. They were originally passed on as a recommendation from others in the industry.

This project took place from January–April 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We haven’t released it yet, but the API is expected to be a cornerstone of our technology stack. We’re in the process of doing a large system test, which we’re expecting results from soon.

How did NewRedo Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

We had an idea of what we wanted to achieve, and NewRedo provided some implementation details to make sure everything went in the right direction. We had daily scrum stand-ups with them because they were based out of our office until we all moved to remote work. They were also involved in daily calls with the team and were essential in providing feedback and process on how we were developing the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

NewRedo is really communicative and really friendly. They’re there to help you reach the best possible outcome of your project.

We’re an online entry platform for endurance sports, primarily running and triathlons. We were established in 2013, and primarily have a presence across the UK. I’m the managing director.

What challenge were you trying to address with NewRedo Ltd.?

They designed and built our website. I don’t have a tech background, and we needed developers to build the site. We had the idea of what we wanted to do and then we shopped around to find a vendor.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We didn’t have a website at all to start, but they brought in a graphic designer that matched what we already had in terms of a logo and materials.

They were clear from the get-go, and the reason we worked with them is that they focused on getting the minimum stuff up and running so that we could make money as a company and do more development. They’re very focused on getting what’s required to market as soon as possible. They also optimized it so that it would be immediately appealing.

We primarily worked with two developers.

How did you come to work with NewRedo Ltd.?

We found them on Google. I was looking for developers that were based in the same as us so we could do face-to-face meetings readily if that was required. Of the 3–4 outfits we talked to, NewRedo stood head and shoulders above the rest. From our first conversation with Phil and Royd (Directors), we felt that they understood what we were trying to achieve and that they could help us build it.

How much have you invested with them?

The initial three-month build was £20,000 ($24,700 USD) but since then we’ve spent around £20,000 ($24,700 USD) each year.

We’ve been working with them since March 2013.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Users had to understand that site form the beginning. Our market wasn’t very mature at the time; while there were big, international players like Eventbrite, there weren’t many built specifically around endurance sports in the UK. We’ve been nothing but pleased with them and the site. The feedback that comes in regularly from site users says the site is easy and simple to use, especially when compared to our immediate competitors. This is exactly what we were after.

NewRedo recognized that we needed to build something that combined the best of the web shopping experience but wasn’t weighed down by the specifics and complexities of the sport. We wanted a site that was as easy as walking into a shop and buying a chocolate bar, and that’s what we got.

How did NewRedo Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

It was always easy for us to communicate to them what we wanted, and for them to engineer a solution with working code. We didn’t have the technical knowledge to do this, so being able to communicate what we wanted was great.

We worked in short sprints, rushing through the backlog with regular communications throughout the week over the phone, through video conference, or in-person. The in-person meetings happen monthly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The ease and flexibility of their approach stand out, especially with people who don’t understand the technology. Most people in our situation assume they would have the solution but NewRedo was great at talking us down and finding the solution for us. Sometimes I was resistant, but then I would recognize that they were right. They had the lower-friction way of developing functionality for the user. They were also very good at breaking the process down into bite-size chunks that we could understand.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there wasn’t any more than is in every working relationship. Seven years later, we’re still with them. We’re happy.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be prepared to spend a good amount of time with them in the beginning. They’ll give you a good amount of time and use it well to get to know them and what you want to do. It provided a very strong foundation for what we’ve done. If you invest the time on your side you’ll get the right product on the back end of it.
