Beyond is a mobile app for our clients’ children; a social app that lets them stay in touch after events we host and helps us maintain the connection. Netguru designed and developed the solution.
We also worked with Karina Graj on two other products: a workflow engine for access to our applications, and a mobile/web suite that helps bankers take meeting notes using AI. For both of these, our role was product design.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

For all three products, each was adopted and then taken over by the business lines to continue investing (I’m in Innovation). Beyond has several dozen MAUs. The workflow tool has been fully embraced and the legacy solutions decommissioned, and as for the bankers’ AI tool, it has been requested by every banker in the group worldwide.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

For this, I’ll focus on the Beyond app that Netguru developed. They delivered on time, even though the deadline seemed impossible to meet. The team was proactive and went above and beyond, putting in countless hours. I’ve already told them, but they exceeded my expectations in every respect. It was a fantastic collaboration.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Quality of the developers, reliability, rigor, speed. And the proposed designs and the choices made were excellent. I think what stands out the most is their ability to earn and deserve trust.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Netguru could have done differently?

Unfortunately, not much in our context. I work in a rather secretive and closed world, and managing to “bring in” an external development company was a matter of chance. Unless you open an office in Geneva... I don’t see much to criticize. Apart from maybe your organization / org chart, it’s hard to clearly understand who is responsible for what. It may be obvious to you, but from the client’s perspective, at least for us, it isn’t.

I’m the VP of communications at Pure Earth, an environmental health nonprofit organization that provides health and environmental solutions to major global health crises. We clean up toxic pollution in low—and middle-income countries. We’ve been doing this work for 25 years, and for the past four years, we’ve focused on lead and mercury exposure and poisoning.

What challenge were you trying to address with Netguru?

We needed an app to enable citizens to report pollution and geotag it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Netguru built the Report Pollution app and the reportpollution.org landing page. Citizens would create reports, which would then go to the environment ministry in each country so we could start to take action. The team went through a series of meetings to learn about our existing systems, including our toxic site identification platform. We taught them about the issue and the platform's requirements and needs. The team did everything from scratch, including design, development, and App Store authorization.

We worked with around 3-4 people from Netguru.

How did you come to work with Netguru?

We met them at a conference and started talking about how to collaborate. They approached us because we were in the news and offered us their services.

How much have you invested with them?

It was a pro bono engagement, so we didn't spend any money.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from April 2019 to April 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their work was fantastic; the people who tested the app really liked it. However, we had to get government approval to use it in certain countries, and at that time, we couldn't get funding to roll it out, so we didn't use the app. Now that we have the political support, money, and staff, we're considering approaching Netguru again to update the app.

How did Netguru perform from a project management standpoint?

Netguru was amazing. They provided clear documentation and met every deadline; they worked quickly and were thorough. They understood our field, which was very different from the business operations they usually did. They were great communicators using Slack and emails. 

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I wanted to give kudos to the team member in charge of external partnerships and business development.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team was remote and from different places, yet they worked really well together. Their professionalism was very high. I used to work in the tech sector, so I know good when I see it.

Netguru's project management was excellent. We were assigned a highly organised PM who scheduled three online sprint meetings a week, and planned and managed the project on Jira. The team communication was mostly via Slack. We received monthly updates about the budget. When our designer had to leave due to illness, she organised an internal designer at short notice who was able to help us complete the project. She also found us an extra Flutter engineer to come on board for a short period to help.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We interviewed three companies for this project. Netguru were actually the most expensive, but we are EXTREMELY glad we chose them. They didn't over-promise in the pitch meetings, they were very honest about what would and would not be possible for our budget – unlike the other dev houses we met with. Their project management was impeccable. They were truly agile, responding quickly to problems and issues that came up during the build. And they adapted to work with a founder (me) with no technical experience, not an easy thing.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Netguru could have done differently?

At one point we were starting to go over budget. This could have been communicated to us more quickly; however, a solution was found which enabled us to continue with the project. We are very impressed with their flexibility and helpfulness in helping us get the project over the line.

Netguru conducted an in-depth UI/UX audit of our mobile app, assessing its alignment with our future goals. This independent audit, combined with benchmarking against similar apps, highlighted the app's strengths, areas for improvement, and potential opportunities. The insights gained allowed us to identify reusable elements and set a clear focus for where to concentrate our efforts moving forward.

Following the audit, we took time to articulate the company's vision and future aspirations. This led to a series of local workshops in Mauritius facilitated by Netguru, where we delved into the business context, mobile strategy, and how best to align the app with our goals. These workshops were crucial in distilling our discussions into actionable steps, laying the foundation for the redesign process.

With a clearer vision, we defined an MVP scope for the new app, incorporating existing features and some new additions. Netguru guided us through mood-boarding sessions, ultimately landing on the perfect design direction. Over a 14-week period, the design was here, transforming our business needs, vision, and strategy into scalable, logical components for the app. A custom design system, the first of its kind for the organization, was also established as part of this overhaul.

Despite our team running multiple projects in parallel, Netguru’s expertise, attention to detail, and incredible people made this project feel effortless, even though it was a major initiative for us. We've been working with Netguru for nearly two years on our product design needs.With this collaboration we focus primarily on the Ad Product development. Netguru uses Figma, which aligns perfectly with our tools at Brainly.

We started discussions in September 2022 and signed the contract in October 2022. We've been collaborating with Netguru ever since.

Our collaboration with Netguru has been highly productive. Their designs have been crucial for developing and delivering our ad products on time. These high-quality visuals have significantly supported our Sales Team and Client presentations. Internally, Mirek's collaboration with our Product Designers has streamlined our workflow, allowing us to take on more significant projects and innovate with new ad products.

How did Netguru perform from a project management standpoint?

Working with Mirek feels like collaborating with an internal team member. Despite not being full-time, the allocated 30 hours per month have been sufficient to plan and execute crucial tasks. Mirek follows the Agile methodology, delivering everything on time and proactively addressing our needs. Operational aspects, such as invoicing, are also handled efficiently.

Mirek is an excellent designer, and Kinga provides valuable support, ensuring our engagement runs smoothly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m the head of engineering for a financial services company. I look after the company’s engineering department and processes, including project delivery, hiring, and other related matters.

We hired Netguru to outsource software engineers. Our company wanted to scale up the engineering team quickly as we grew.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Netguru provides us with around 15 software engineers working on a single project with many parts. We have a fintech app for our customers, and the Netguru team works on every part of it, such as the lending, banking, and KYC components. Put simply, they’re embedded in our engineering team.

What is the team composition?

At most, we’ve worked with around 15 engineers; that number has decreased to five teammates, including Mateusz (Engineering Lead) and Lukasz (Senior UX Researcher). I’ve also interfaced with five account managers during the engagement. 

How did you come to work with Netguru?

The decision to hire Netguru was made before me, so they were already a part of the organization when I joined it. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve paid around €220,000 (approximately $240,000 USD) per month early in the engagement. At present, we’re paying between €40,000–€50,000 (approximately $43,000–$54,000 USD) per month.

What is the status of this engagement?

The engagement started in June 2021, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Netguru has brought on experienced senior engineers to us. They’ve produced quality code and built truly reliable systems that will serve our customers for a long time. On top of that, their engineers can easily adapt to new environments and systems. They understand what’s going on in the background of these services and help us develop them further while also troubleshooting them. 

Moreover, they’ve brought good engineering practices that we’ve adopted — some of them have truly improved our efficiency and organizational excellence. Overall, their engineering resources are great. The engineers we get from them always satisfy our needs; they’re genuinely driven. 

How did Netguru perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done a great job managing the project. We’ve negotiated with them in terms of scope. We sometimes cut the scope or extend the deadline. However, they consistently meet our needs based on our agreement. 

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Mateusz has done great work. Working with Lukasz has also been nice.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Netguru’s company culture has been great for their engineers. They provide a framework where their resources have peace of mind and can work on enjoyable projects. That’s why they retain talented teammates; for us, having talented teammates is a plus.

Are there any areas they could improve?

When I joined the company, I offered them a suggestion regarding their pricing. They weren’t open to price negotiations. However, they changed a couple of management-level staff and became more flexible on their price.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Negotiate hard on the pricing, and work with Netguru’s core team. For context, Netguru has two main units: a core team and a group called partners. The teammates we get from their core team are always good.

I’m the founder and CEO of Fundacja Uwaga, Śmieciarka Jedzie. We’re a nonprofit in the circular economy; we save tons of waste every year from landfills.

We operated in Facebook groups and needed to automate our work and show our users their impact. Our team engaged Netguru to create an app that would help people post on Facebook groups. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had an existing design, and nearly everything was set up. However, Netguru reviewed the design and implemented some adjustments. They added more graphic designs to be used in the app stores. We used Figma for the designs. 

From there, Netguru developed our mobile app’s MVP for taking and posting photos on Facebook groups. iOS and Android users should be able to use the app to take photos and write descriptions, allowing them to post the photos quickly on the group. They could also monitor the photos’ activity and see if others saved them.

We worked with around 11 teammates from Netguru, including Mateusz (Client Partner), DevOps resources, React Native developers, designers, and R&D specialists.

Because of Netguru, we gained a working MVP we could use for our next accelerator or funding program. I could use it to show our idea of using an app to help people post on Facebook. It would be much easier for me to get funds for development because people could see that a lot was invested to start the app.

Working with Netguru was amazing because they were organized. Everything was written down, including the tools, strategies, and resources for the project. Everything was in one place for documentation, so nothing was forgotten. I could stop working on the project and come back half a year later, and I’d still have everything in place. Moreover, their teammates always informed me about what was happening. They communicated well during delays and told me about any upcoming changes. 

For the budget, the official investment was less than $5,000, but this project was essentially done pro bono for us. We took part in a technological program, and Netguru was a B Corp — part of their mission was to support organizations like ours. 

Meanwhile, the project was supposed to take less time than it did. However, it took half a year because we had to wait for Facebook to give us the necessary permissions. Since the project was pro bono, we also had to wait for developers working on other paid projects. In truth, though, we didn’t have to wait long.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed with their ideas and philosophy. They had an attitude of empowering change-makers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there weren’t any. The project was perfect. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It helps to be prepared and know what you want; they can also help you develop your idea. On top of that, don’t be afraid of their high prices — it’s truly worth it. Invest in them because they’ll give you high-quality work.
