Netgen Custom Software

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder and managing director of QuantiTrack, a cloud-based platform that streamlines project management for quantity surveyors and construction professionals. We offer collaborative tools and smarter workflows to improve efficiency and simplify daily tasks.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Netgen Custom Software?

We needed help developing QuantiTrack, a cloud-based software platform designed to modernize and simplify how quantity surveyors manage bills of quantities (BOQs), tendering, and commercial workflows. Our goal was to create a modern, user-friendly, and efficient platform that reduces repetitive administrative work, minimizes errors, and streamlines processes that are traditionally time-consuming for quantity surveyors and contractors. We wanted to build a scalable solution that could grow with our business, with a strong focus on functionality, usability, and making everyday tasks easier for industry professionals.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Netgen Custom Software has been responsible for the design and development of QuantiTrack. The scope of work includes developing the core platform, implementing its key functionality, and creating a user-friendly interface that simplifies complex workflows. The main deliverables include the BOQ builder, tools for managing project documentation, user access and permissions, and tender management and comparison functionality.

The project also involves building a scalable foundation that can support future features and enhancements as QuantiTrack grows. Throughout the process, Netgen Custom Software has worked with us to turn our vision into a practical software solution tailored to the needs of the industry.

Netgen Custom Software has handled the entire development of QuantiTrack, including frontend and backend development, platform architecture, and implementation of the core functionality across the platform.

.What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 6–10 teammates from Netgen Custom Software.

How did you come to work with Netgen Custom Software?

We found them through an online search. We chose them because they were a great culture fit, and their company values aligned with ours.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in May 2026, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The biggest measure of success has been seeing QuantiTrack evolve from an idea into a fully developed software platform that is soon preparing for testing and launch. What started as a vision to simplify the lives of quantity surveyors has become a tangible solution with practical functionality designed around the industry's needs.

Netgen Custom Software has delivered the core platform and its key features, bringing together workflows that aim to reduce repetitive administration, streamline BOQ creation, and simplify tender management and comparison.

For us, the real achievement is that we now have a platform that we can soon take to industry professionals, test with real users, and continue growing into a long-term solution for the construction industry. Netgen Custom Software has played a major role in turning our vision into something real.

As QuantiTrack is still preparing for launch, we haven't established final performance benchmarks yet. Our initial focus will be on gathering feedback from quantity surveyors and contractors during testing to understand how effectively the platform addresses their everyday challenges.

Once launched, we plan to track key metrics such as time saved on BOQ preparation and tender comparisons, reductions in manual administration and errors, user adoption and retention, and overall customer satisfaction.

Our ultimate goal is to measure whether QuantiTrack genuinely makes quantity surveyors' lives easier by reducing repetitive work and allowing them to spend more time on the professional aspects of their work. These metrics will help us continuously improve the platform as it grows.

We plan to begin collecting initial feedback and usage data during our beta testing phase, before the official launch. This will allow us to establish baseline measurements and identify areas for improvement early on.

Following launch, we expect to start tracking user adoption, engagement, and customer satisfaction immediately, with more meaningful insights into time savings and error reduction emerging over the first three to six months as users integrate QuantiTrack into their daily workflows.

Our approach is to use real-world feedback and measurable results to continuously refine the platform and ensure it delivers genuine value to quantity surveyors and contractors.

How did Netgen Custom Software perform from a project management standpoint?

My experience with Netgen Custom Software's project management has been very positive. Communication has been great, and the team has been able to translate my ideas and requirements into practical, well-thought-out solutions.

One thing that has particularly impressed me is their efficiency. On several occasions, they have completed work faster than initially communicated, which has been great to see. They have shown a strong ability to understand the vision behind QuantiTrack and turn it into a functional, user-friendly platform.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What has impressed me most about working with Netgen Custom Software is their ability to see the bigger picture and help bring the vision for QuantiTrack to life. As we discussed the different processes quantity surveyors go through in their daily work, the platform naturally evolved into something much more comprehensive than initially envisioned.

Rather than simply developing individual features, the team has focused on how everything should connect and work together. They understood the importance of building a platform where each stage flows seamlessly into the next, with the right information and processes already in place to make future workflows as efficient and fast as possible.

I found it particularly impressive that they considered the long-term functionality and performance of the platform from the beginning, rather than focusing only on immediate requirements. Combined with their ability to turn my ideas into practical solutions and their efficiency throughout development, this has made working with Netgen Custom Software a genuinely positive experience.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, I don't have any real complaints. If I had to wish for one thing, it would be for them to build the entire platform in a month! 😂But in all seriousness, building a platform as comprehensive as QuantiTrack takes time, and I am genuinely happy with my decision to choose Netgen Custom Software to build it. I have been very impressed with their work and look forward to continuing this journey with them.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

We have worked with Netgen since 2017, when they took over the support and development of our legacy eLearning platform.

The system was custom-built, with numerous complexities, and required specialist knowledge of C#:

1) The original brief was to upgrade the existing platform rather than replace it to accommodate certain key functional elements.

2) Since taking over, Netgen has successfully completed two significant system upgrades and continues to manage all ongoing maintenance.

3) To manage our server infrastructure and related requirements.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

1. Legacy eLearning platform upgrades and ongoing maintenance – Taking over a complex, custom-built C# platform, completing two significant upgrades, and providing continued technical support and maintenance.

2. Server infrastructure management – Managing the hosting and server requirements, including proactive maintenance, timely updates and clear communication to ensure reliable ongoing operation.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Netgen has been responsive and reliable throughout our relationship, taking the time to understand the complexities of our legacy eLearning platform and our business requirements.

The team are approachable, easy to communicate with. They provide practical solutions, communicate clearly throughout the process, and keep us informed of progress and maintenance requirements.

All project requirements were delivered on time and to spec.

Their server management team is superb - equally professional, providing timely updates and excellent ongoing support.

What was your primary form of communication with Netgen Custom Software?

Virtual Meeting

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

One of Netgen’s key strengths is the depth of its technical expertise, particularly its ability to support legacy systems that require specialist skills that are increasingly difficult to find and can be expensive to source.

Our custom-built eLearning platform relies on C#, and finding developers with the right experience to maintain and upgrade a system of this complexity is not always easy.

Netgen has provided us with access to this expertise, enabling us to retain and evolve our existing platform rather than undertake a costly replacement.

Beyond their technical capabilities, Matthew and his team take the time to understand our business, offer practical solutions and respond promptly to our needs. Their combination of specialist development skills, problem-solving ability and reliable ongoing support makes them a valuable long-term technical partner.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

The scope of work included building a full mapping visibility of deliveries accross South Africa in real time. It included the overlay of our tracking devices to ensure deliveries were accurate. It provides a full overview of timescales, volumes and geographical locations that our printed catalogues are distributed, in order to trigger follow up comms to customers. Our UK system allowed us to design direct marketing collateral that could be assigned to data files in order to personalise them and send to print. Each office that the client has (x 60) had access to it to create their own collateral. The marketing that was produced from the system had a brilliant response rate and kept within the clients brand guidelines.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Improved off market appraisals through our direct mail which was created and executed through the system for our UK client by 20%. New instructions attributed to the campaigns rose to 17.8% and we won a GOLD SMP award for our work.

We also won new clients with our SA platform due to its differnential with other competitives. It has been designed and executed with nothing like it in the market place. We are still adding new sections of it to take it to another level.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

I do not have the documents anymore that outline the scope and deliverables, and I am not faimiliar with developer-terminology. But NETGEN custom built an advanced portal for recording and managing student data and documents with enhanced automation features that automated many of our processes. This system automatically allocates online payments received to student accounts, created new student accounts once a registration has been made on our site, so the details are readily loaded onto the student's profile on the system. This portal automates a lot of the functions to do with student accounts management, it securely and safely stores student documents (such as IDs, qualification etc), it generates automated reports on registrations received, as well as automated reports reflecting student results and academic progress. These are just some of the many features developed by NETGEN.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

1. Improved Student Experience: Students now have immediate access to up-to-date account information, including automated financial statements and account balances through their online portal. In addition, automated monthly progress reports provide students with real-time insight into their academic performance and course progression, significantly improving transparency and communication.
2. Significant Operational Efficiency: By automating student administration, registration processes, and access to information, NETGEN has substantially reduced the administrative workload. This has enabled IBM College to support continued growth without the need to recruit an additional full-time administrative staff member, resulting in measurable cost savings and improved operational scalability.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Yes. They responded timeously to needs

What was your primary form of communication with Netgen Custom Software?

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The care they put into their work and the initiative to recommend areas to enhance our operations further stood out. As someone who does not work in the development space, we are often blind to the available opportunities for improvement and it becomes quite frustrating to try and establish what we need to do to improve the flow of our operations. I therefore appreciated that NETGEN would reach out to recommend new developments that could have a huge impact on the efficiency of our operations AND our public image. This is attributed to the "smart" nature of their enhancements and the value that these enhancements offer to our students, which enhances the professional image of our Institution in turn.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Netgen Custom Software could have done differently?

As with any large custom software project, the initial development and implementation phases can sometimes be challenging. There are occasions where refinements or unforeseen issues only become apparent once the system is being used in a live environment, requiring further adjustments after deployment. However, we recognise that this is a normal part of developing complex, tailored solutions. What has consistently stood out is NETGEN's responsiveness, proactive communication, and willingness to address feedback quickly. Their ongoing support has made these challenges manageable and has ensured that the final solution continues to evolve to meet our needs.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a project manager for the Center for International Peace Operations in Berlin. It’s an organization that is linked to the Foreign Affairs Department of Germany. I work with the African Union on their civilian roster for peace support operations. My department does consulting services for other organizations on a global level, particularly dealing with peace deployment and peace support operations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Netgen Custom Software?

We needed someone to redesign our database for the transition to the African Union.

Prior to the transition, we built the actual personnel roster database with a different company in Germany. The general idea is always to keep the solutions for the African Union on the same continent. We chose Netgen as they were one of our first partners, and they’ve been involved in the African standby capacity database development for the past five years.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

For the past year, Netgen has been completely reorganizing, redesigning, and reprogramming the database because the old one looked really outdated. We want the database to be more user-friendly, as we’re working with all the regional organizations in the African Union. They also managed the nominations for peace operations and the deployment of personnel. The whole process of selecting a suitable candidate for the peace operations is reflected in the database.

They modernized the look and feel of the functionalities of how the database works. They spent a chunk of last year working on the list of deliverables the African Union requested, and we’re now in the final stages of adjusting minor details. They work in different phases and deliver products on a regular basis for us to test. We test the functionalities, draw feedback, and send them to Netgen so they can continue working on it, and deliver it to the next phase.

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact is Andrew (Director).

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement started in March 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

No matter what we ask, Netgen is always willing to go back into the development phase. It’s modern, user-friendly, and it’s self-explanatory. There’s a huge difference to what the database looked like before and from my point of view, it’s been a huge improvement to have those changes developed by Netgen.

Though ultimately, the success of the database will only show when the actual people start working with it.

How did Netgen Custom Software perform from a project management standpoint?

We mostly communicate through emails, but we would have regular calls for updates. We would do a live screen sharing on Zoom where Andrew would walk us through the system on a regular basis. This is so we can understand the functionalities of the database.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with how they respond to our feedback requests promptly. If I send an email today, I’ll definitely get a response on the same day. A lot of the activities within the project are based on the progress of its development. We always expect to hear the outcome of those activities and for us, it’s super useful because we can continue planning other activities.

Another thing I’m happy about is there are more levels of testing involved now. Even though we were supposed to finish by Christmas, Andrew is still contacting us to let us know they’re willing to help us out.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not really. I understand it’s a very complex project with little nuances that are sometimes difficult to grasp. In that sense, sometimes things are not immediately perfect, but then it’s also on our side — we could’ve walked them through our logic as well.
