I’m a senior marketing specialist for Telstra, which is a large telecommunications and technology company. My role encompasses product development, marketing, taking products to market, and managing communication.

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

Our B2B platform was working well but had been built quickly, so we wanted to take it to the next level by implementing an improved design. It had to be more user-friendly.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We weren’t too prescriptive, opting to rely on Momentum’s expertise and process, though we did have a brief and statement of work.

Momentum’s team started with a workshop to discover our customers’ problems and then used Sigma, Neural, and Microsoft teams to design the platform. They created detailed wireframes and prototypes for key parts of the platform that we can use to validate them and their logic with our customers. This work was based on many hours of discussions with our customers, stakeholders, and internal users.

We worked with a project manager, the head of UX, and six other designers; there were 8–9 people in total. Jazmin (Director of Strategy and Client Services) was our main point of contact.

How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?

We’d approached a few organizations and done an online analysis of their websites and past work. Momentum had worked with large telecom companies like us and designed platforms with a similar intent to ours, being a B2B platform. Their experience and good Clutch reviews put them over the top.

We worked together from July–November 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

All the work has been done, and we’re waiting to implement the design into the platform. We’re on track to uplift it at the end of January thanks to Momentum’s expertise.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent. The meeting cadence was very regular, as was their delivery. We appreciated how they pushed us to keep going. Communication was done through phone calls, emails, and Microsoft Teams meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were friendly, communicative, which built a collaborative relationship.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The nature of their relationship was very open and communicative. I wouldn’t have done anything differently in a large way. We liked how they worked overall.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t drop the ball. When you get a project going, you need to keep the ball rolling and the ideas flowing. When you have that engagement within your team, then the design team will accommodate it and run a fast-paced development.

I’m the co-founder and CFO of a startup that is building a brain analytics platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

We were trying to address how to show people very complex brain data in a way that our consumers could understand.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Momentum Design Lab helped us design a prototype of the platform we were looking to build. They used Figma and other technologies. Their main goal was to enable us to create consumer-centric brain health reports so that our customers could easily read and understand their brain activity, connectivity, and cognition.

What is the team composition?

Three people were involved in the project, including a project manager. They also had other resources who supported us throughout the engagement.

How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?

We found Momentum Design Lab on Clutch. We interviewed a handful of design agencies, and they were the ones who really understood what we were trying to accomplish. They also went above and beyond to ensure that we were on the same page compared to other agencies that superficially listened to our story and just sent us quotes after.

We spent £18,000 (approximately $24,800 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from May–July 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thanks to Momentum Design Lab, we were able to produce the initial design of our digital prototype, which allowed us to secure funding. As a result, we would like to work with them again in the future.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Their communication skills were pretty solid. We predominantly used email and Zoom. We had a pretty fast sprint, so we had biweekly or weekly viewings, which allowed us to review their work and alter some things as we went along.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They asked many insightful questions and that was very helpful because we were operating in a very difficult space. On top of that, whenever we had questions, they’d always respond to us. Additionally, if we wanted to see things in different ways, they were always ready to show us many options.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I honestly couldn’t think of anything they could improve.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Integrate Momentum Design Lab into your thought process because they’re very good problem solvers. If you do that, you’ll get the most out of what you’re looking to achieve.

We were looking to augment our UX after collating user feedback. Momentum Design Lab created a UX roadmap that we could implement to improve the functionalities of our website. Additionally, we needed these features to be customizable by our internal team in case there were other adjustments to be made.

Momentum Design Lab's members were experts that brought our design vision to life. They were able to optimize our UX through their deliverables —  this was our main success metric for their work, considering that we couldn't have positively changed our website on our own.

I’m the CEO of a real estate application. We offer a web and mobile tool for investors, agents, brokers, lenders, and property management companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

We wanted to reimagine our UI and UX. We wanted a more creative and simple way to serve a tremendous amount of information.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We went through every aspect of our current application and made the changes. Momentum’s job to translate our findings in a new way for our application to operate.  

During the first phase, we got to know them and learn how each other thinks. The second phase was putting together focus groups. We serve an immense amount of data, and we wanted to modernize it. We started with the sign-up page and moved through every different aspect of the application from there.

We worked with Jazmine (Director of Strategy & Client Relations). We also worked with three designers. It was a perfect-sized team.

We researched many companies. We went through a couple of different companies, but Momentum was the best personality fit.

We started working together in January 2021, and our work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our team is very diverse and picky. The fact that Momentum Design Lab was able to create something that we all agreed on was a miracle. I’m very happy with the work. They’re a great team with a good mix of personalities and angles. The new design is much more modern, focused, and helpful.

Jazmine was very experienced and had an incredible understanding of what we were doing. She was able to keep us on track and not distracted. All of our sessions were incredibly productive. They don’t have selective hearing like some of the other companies we’ve worked with.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We met twice a week for an hour. We had an initial eight-hour session where we dove into the project. Jazmine was able to effectively communicate. She was also incredibly organized and able to keep us on track. We communicated via Slack and Jira.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to translate words into UI was phenomenal. They delivered a final product that made sense to all of us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they did a great job. They were much more organized, focused, talented, professional, and experienced than other companies that we’ve worked with.

All you need to do is communicate your thoughts to them and they’ll do the rest.

For what projects/services did your company hire Momentum Design Lab?

We lacked the necessary in-house expertise to develop world-class UX end-user technology.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We searched online, shortlisted three suppliers (two in the UK and one in Portugal) and selected Momentum in the end, based on their track record and "chemistry" with their director. We felt we could definitely work together.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

Our projects centred around the development of mock-ups for our dashboard and mobile app. The bulk of the work was carried out in Figma, We went though initial brainstorms and discussions about the business, profiling users, choosing looks from other apps which we liked, and then started working on progressively more refined versions of the App and Dasboard, always on Figma.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Momentum's work was a great catalyst for thinking at our company. Having someone external looking at our business model with a fresh pair of eyes, challenged us to think far beyond what we had already envisioned, and really centre our product around the UX. The final mock-ups demonstrate exceptional quality and consistency throughout. They are not the "finished article" but we have continued working on top of Momentum's work (and the fact it was so easy to do so is a good testament to their ability to integrate seamlessly in a new team).

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Good. We used Asana for general project management, and Figma for technical communication. Progress, deadlines and budget were scrupulously kept in order and communicated by Momentum's MD.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their adaptability, approachability, and friendly attitude were impressive, combined with their good speed and great quality.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The actual user experience required further maturation to make sense from top to bottom and integrate with the remaining tech stack. But that was difficult to accommodate in our very limited budget.

I’m the CPO of a market research SaaS application that we call the market research cloud. We’re an enterprise-oriented software platform that delivers a wide range of market research technologies to our clients.

We’ve been building our platform for a few years, and as we looked into the future, we came to the conclusion that we could differentiate our company by delivering a fantastic and compelling UX. In order to be proactive, we hired Momentum Design Labs to improve UX.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Through several workshops, we went over our strategy and objectives with them. Then they delivered comprehensive designs through Figma, created low fidelity wireframes, followed by high-fidelity designs that were ready to ship to developers. They also created user stories that we could share with our development team.

The quality of their work was very good. They did a fantastic job of collaborating with us and understanding our business. They ensured that our future needs will be met.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Everything was documented and shared with us on Basecamp. Then we met twice a week to discuss the project design and give feedback. All of the meeting notes were tracked in Basecamp. They also updated us on how many hours they used each week and how that impacted our budget. Outside of our meeting times, we used Slack to collaborate.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were exceptionally committed, delivered quality work, and were easy to communicate with. Unlike other partners we’ve worked with in the past, they understand our long-term strategy and are able to apply those ideas to design.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had such a positive experience that we don’t have real complaints. They responded to feedback very quickly.

Have a clear vision of what you want so you can provide them with the context necessary to be successful, and let them do their work.

I’m the director of customer experience for a company that makes AI software to help doctors record their patient interactions.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

Right now, our onboarding process is manual, but we’re building software that would help us customers to onboard automatically. We hired Momentum Design Lab to design the user flow for customer onboarding.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I walked them through our standard onboarding process, which was done using PowerPoint slides. Then, I also walked them through a partially complete configuration tool as a reference point for how we wanted our users to onboard. Using that information, they used Figma to design the platform.

What is the team composition?

We worked with Lydia (Lead Designer) and Jasmine (Client Service Representative).

How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?

We found them through a Google search. We considered two other companies but chose Momentum Design Lab based on their work and location. They’re also located in California.

We started working together in March 2021 and we wrapped up the project in April 2021.

They gave us a better onboarding flow. They handed off the designs to us, and we’re now in the process of implementing them.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We share a Slack channel, but we also had a lot of phone calls and video calls. They were very adaptable to what we wanted to do.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team moved their schedules around so they could begin working on our project quickly. As a result, they were able to complete the sprint quickly. They were extremely helpful; they came up with some good ideas to streamline the user flow.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The Figma design wasn’t fleshed out, but we were expecting that. We also had a tight budget and tight timeline, so they did the best they could.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I don’t really have any advice. Their flexibility made them easy to work with.

I’m the founder of a clinical decision support company. We provide artificial intelligence and research support to doctors and nurses.

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

Currently, clinicians don’t have adequate analytic tools for clinical decision support. We were trying to design a solution that would allow clinicians to use a user interface to answer their questions without involving technical resources.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provided a full range of user interface design services, from the user profile and use case through final design delivery. They facilitated the research discussions that drove their solution. Their designs are being used in a SaaS application that’s being built from scratch.

What is the team composition?

We worked with three people from their team.

How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?

We sought out vendors online and found them on Clutch. We had the multiple potential vendors that bid on the project define their methodology and provide examples of business intelligence and analytics products they had built in the past for reference. We chose their team because they had the most domain expertise in building analytics solutions.

We spent between $100,000–$250,000 with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from July–November 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The product isn’t slated to launch until the end of 2021, but we’re really happy with what they’ve contributed. They delivered over 200 unique interface elements for us, all with a cohesive and intuitive design. These designs have now been integrated into our product.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

They had excellent project management skills. Everything was planned in advance and executed on time. We progressed according to the original plan and communicated via Slack. Our teams also had bi-weekly design calls in addition to the early discovery sessions.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team’s desire to understand the user’s situation distinguishes them from their competitors. They took extra time to work with subject-matter experts to truly comprehend the specificities of our business challenge and our end-user base.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They couldn’t have done anything better. They’re that good. We’ll use them again for our next project.

Follow their process, take them seriously, and assemble a proper team of domain experts. Good designs take time to be created.

I work for a health research organization as a strategic design and innovation manager. We’re a global health charity that funds lots of different initiatives and research in the health field.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

We were looking to understand how large employers, faith leaders, and ambassadors dealt with the pandemic in terms of finding information and connecting with each other about that information.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They started by understanding our problem and devising a strategy for us to develop user testing. They were amazing in terms of finding clients, employers, and groups to work with that were in a global position. We didn’t just deal with the UK, but with Saudi Arabia and Australia. Momentum Design Lab handled the interviews, and we worked directly with those clients to understand exactly how they were dealing with the pandemic at multiple levels within their organizations.

Beyond that, Momentum Design Lab developed visual prototypes of a platform that would solve those groups’ issues, and they tested them as well. We started with a web-based platform because it was easier, but they definitely suggested that we should go with mobile as well.

Large employers will use the solution at multiple levels: senior management, executive leadership, HR, and internal communications. It’s going to be used in faith-based organizations and with international organizations.

What is the team composition?

Mark (Managing Director) was the liaison and project manager. We also worked with a UX/UI designer that did some user testing.

How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?

We decided to work with Momentum because they presented a strong understanding of the issue, asking many questions about what we were trying to find out. They were very thorough.

I searched for user design issues online, and Momentum came up. I was impressed after an initial call with Mark because he listened to what I was after. Their presentation was strong in presenting the problem and developing a fit-for-purpose solution. Their rates also stood out.

How much have you invested with them?

My team invested £70,000 (approximately $96,000 USD), and another organization put it another £25,000 (approximately $34,000 USD), so it’s around £100,000 (approximately $137,000 USD) pounds in total

What is the status of this engagement?

The project ran from May until September 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The people in the user testing environment said the system was incredible and that it got to the heart of their issues. Additionally, they felt listened to with the design work.

Our metric was measuring the “wow factor” involved, as well as how Momentum Design Lab incorporated outside technology that we weren’t aware of. In terms of an evaluation, we couldn’t wait to work with them again, and I think that that speaks volumes.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

It was impeccable. I haven’t seen anything like it before. They kept us up to date without bombarding us, and they used the tools that we already used — messaging me on Slack and WhatsApp. The latter was for emergencies when they needed a response but I wasn’t at my computer.

They met all the deliverables on time, and when there were some issues with our timing in providing them users for testing, they went out and gathered the testers themselves. They knew the timeline was growing short, and they acted on their own.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Whenever I spoke to Momentum Design Lab, they didn’t just listen to what I had to say, but they also thought about the user testing being done or the extra research they’d done. The fact that they brought all that into conversations without making me feel like I was losing control of the project was outstanding. I always felt safe in talking to them. They gave me everything I asked for and more.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They are currently working on the third phase of the project, and we brought in another company to handle phase two. They didn’t present well for the second phase, as they didn’t focus purely on the problem. Rather, too much time was spent on brainstorming people they could connect us with. They tried hard, but they didn’t have the field-specific knowledge we were looking for. Finally, while the visuals in their products are fresh and new, the visuals in their presentation were a bit outdated.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as frank as possible about what you can and can’t do, as well as what you’re looking to receive from them. They’ll exceed all expectations as long as they understand the problem.

I’m the VP of AR/VR programs for a medical technology company that provides AR/VR reconstructions for surgical panning, simulation, and navigation. Our clients also use these models for patient engagement and understanding.

What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?

We’re updating our current UI to optimize workflows and make it more intuitive.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They did a workshop with us over a couple of days because we knew what our requirements were and what we were struggling with in our software. Then they quickly moved on to quick designs that we could continue to iterate. We’ve been working on development following a weekly sprint structure since then.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with Jazmin (Director of Strategy & Client Service), Peter (Head of Design), and Fernando (UX/UI Designer).

How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?

We did some research online and found them on Clutch. We relied on Clutch reviews to make our decision.

Our first project began in June 2020, and we’re still working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They’ve given us a beautiful interface that is intuitive and user-friendly. They’ve really helped us achieve our goals. On top of that, they taught us a lot about how to think about design while keeping our user-base in mind. They even have helped us implement an internal frontend development team. They’ve provided a lot of valuable context as to what other companies are doing in this day and age.

How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We didn’t have the budget for a full discovery phase, so instead, they offered a flexible solution.

We have three meetings a week, but we also correspond with Peter on a daily basis on Slack, Basecamp, and email.

We’re pretty quick, but they’re even faster than we are. Jazmin as our delivery lead has been wonderful, and Peter has a lot of leadership skills that have been very valuable to support project planning. They always deliver early or on time and under budget.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understand the nuances of our software and how it fits in with our business model. Our software is very technical, but they’ve gotten up to speed quickly.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t think there’s much room for improvement.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When starting a design project, doing some internal discovery can be very valuable. Interview stakeholders, so you understand the overarching goals for the project before you define your requirements.
