Working with Magma Labs on The Etho website was an excellent experience from start to finish. Their team was highly responsive and communicative, which made the entire process feel collaborative rather than transactional. The project resulted in the successful launch of theetho.com as a functional, multi-vendor marketplace, moving Etho from concept into an operational platform.

• A live marketplace infrastructure supporting vendor listings, product uploads, and transactions
• Successful implementation of vendor onboarding flows, enabling multiple sellers to participate within a single platform
• A streamlined user journey for browsing, discovering, and purchasing products aligned with Etho’s ethical sourcing mission
• A scalable technical foundation that allows for future vendor growth, expanded inventory, and feature development
• Reduction in manual processes by centralizing vendors and offerings into one system, creating operational efficiency from day one
  
  Overall, the launch of theetho.com as a working marketplace validated the business model and created a tangible platform that Etho can now actively grow, test, and optimize.

Magma Labs demonstrated strong, thoughtful project management throughout the engagement. Deliverables were clearly scoped, progress was communicated consistently, and milestones were met despite the inherent complexity of the build.

We’ll be candid — we were not the easiest client. We came in with limited technical expertise and a desire to keep costs lean by working with more junior-level development resources, while simultaneously holding expectations that often aligned more closely with senior-level outcomes. Rather than letting this create friction, Magma Labs handled the situation with exceptional clarity, patience, and professionalism.

They took the time to translate technical realities into language we could understand, set appropriate expectations, and proactively flag risks or trade-offs before they became issues. When our needs shifted or when gaps in understanding surfaced, their team responded with solutions, not defensiveness — guiding us through decisions and helping us prioritize what actually mattered for launch.

What impressed us most about Magma Labs was their ability to bridge the gap between technical execution and non-technical clients without ego or friction. They didn’t just build what was asked — they actively helped us understand why certain decisions mattered and how to make smarter trade-offs given our goals and constraints.

They were especially strong at meeting us where we were. Despite working within budget limitations and shifting expectations, their team remained solution-oriented, calm, and collaborative. They never defaulted to “that’s not possible” or “that’s out of scope” without first exploring alternatives that could still move the project forward.

Magma Labs also stood out for treating the project like a shared problem to solve, not a transactional engagement. Their mix of technical competence, clear communication, and genuine partnership is rare — and it made a meaningful difference in successfully launching a complex marketplace.

QuantHub provides an adaptive platform that helps educators and businesses quickly create and deliver data and AI skill-building programs. We combine learning science, automation, and expert input to future-proof teams and classrooms.

What challenge were you trying to address with MagmaLabs?

We needed team augmentation. We had a team of two building a Ruby on Rails app.

What was the scope of work?

MagmaLabs has provided a senior Rails engineer who has helped us build out new features and our CI/CD pipeline and automated tests. Gerry (Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer) has worked on everything from user onboarding to the core educational experience.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with five teammates from MagmaLabs.

How did you come to work with MagmaLabs?

I’ve worked extensively with Obie. I chose MagmaLabs because of the trusted relationship I have with Obie, their partnership with the university in Colima, and their large team with specific Rails expertise.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve shipped features and grown our presence in school systems. The impact on students’ learning has been positive.

How did MagmaLabs perform from a project management standpoint?

I have a project manager who checks in every month, but we mainly have the engineer integrated into our team. We have daily standups and weekly retrospectives, as well as quarterly off-site meetings.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Gerry has been a fantastic Rails engineer.

What did you find most impressive about them?

MagmaLabs' level of Ruby on Rails expertise has been impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had one engineer who seemed to be going through some personal issues and was unable to deliver.

The team is very communicative, and the developer was extremely detail-oriented as he worked through the tasks (detailing constraints, possibilities, and requirements). He made sure to gain approvals before pulling the trigger on changes. The internal team really appreciated his help and cadence.
