We’re a perfume and cosmetics retailer that distributes products from international brands in Saudi Arabia. We have three branches in the country and we also sell online.

What challenge were you trying to address with Magecom?

We needed to move from physical shops to e-commerce, and that’s what we wanted to do with Magecom.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built our Magento store, and have provided continuous development on the front- and backend. The technologies they use are PHP and JavaScript. Most of the design was made by our internal team.

Magecom started from scratch, making a feature list and looking into our pain points. One of our problems with the old site was that it didn’t have order tracking. Once an order left our warehouse, we wouldn’t know if it was delivered to the client or not.

They made sure to implement this functionality, among others, in our new site and worked with us like partners. We now have a customer care functionality for viewing shipment details, tracking orders, sending SMS notifications, and so on. Magecom has also implemented a function that enables our clients to pay by bank card, by a local Saudi payment gateway, or upon the delivery of their orders.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with around 10 people from Magecom, including front- and backend developers, QA testers, and a project manager.

I asked them for more resources at one point, but they couldn’t accommodate me. They promised to give me more resources, but we’ve stopped working with them in the meantime.

How much have you invested with them?

The average cost of the project is around $15,000 per year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Magecom around May 2017. We paused the development during the pandemic for budget reasons.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Magecom is one of the best developers I’ve worked with. They’ve had a shortage of developers at times, but every company faces this situation. The quality of work also dropped at one point, and when I talked to Magecom about it, they changed the developers. Generally, they have a good, collaborative team who helps out whenever we’re stuck.

They’ve been with us since the launch, including during crises. We’ve had surges of traffic that led to our servers going down, but Magecom was there to help most of the time. There were a few occasions when we couldn’t reach them, during holidays and on weekends, but they’ve usually been by our side to support us.

How did Magecom perform from a project management standpoint?

They use the agile methodology and test every feature before going live. It’s an efficient way of working, and it’s reduced the number of issues.

They also do great in terms of project management. I would rate them highly for meeting deadlines. I usually message them on Skype and have weekly meetings with the team. They have a good project manager, so I don’t have to call them often.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a talented team and competitive pricing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their developers don’t speak English. Other than that, they’re very talented and competitive.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If the client ever has a bad experience with Magecom, they need to speak up about it.

All the team members were always working hard to get all the deliverables ready within the deadlines and possibilities. There were good communications if any of the deliverables would exceed the estimations. They provide great developers that think with you in crafting solutions.

The project manager used our own private Jira to manage the tasks in a scrum manner.

Personal touch. I've visited them a few times on-site, everyone is open and friendly.

We had some ideas on design and Magecom's designer helped us implement them in Photoshop. The most challenging part was the ring configuration - we wanted it to work smoothly, intuitively and look beautiful. We decided to use Magento as a platform due to its stability, functionality and customization capacity

It took a bit longer than initially planned, however, team made the job very well. Outcome was a modern and technologically advanced tool to help us grow our business.

I needed a complete guidance on how to start online business, and to build a site. We initially planned to use Magento, later I decided to pick Opencart. Magecom advised me on the platforms, on usability, on store administration, created design and launched the shop.

For what projects/services did your company hire Magecom, and what were your goals?

We wanted that our customers have opportunities to pay and get paid online. At this point we needed to integrate with some of payment providers, credit card processing services and banking services.

How did you select Magecom and what were the deciding factors?

We have conducted a market research(through Google) and shortlisted a few companies with experience in similar payment integrations.

The site had already existed, we needed to extend the functionality. We had the specification and design, but we hadn't had the capacity/proper experience in our internal team and time was an issue, so we decided to hire an external team. The project uses LAMP stack.

We mainly dealt with a PM, also for our project had been worked developers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The scope was implemented in time, with acceptable budget and perfect quality. We were able to launch the online payments functionality on our site.

Their expertise and quality of work were impressive.

I wish it was less expensive.
