I’m an executive at Papillae, a social media app for restaurant reviews. The app allows users to share restaurant reviews only with their friends and family. The idea is that less than 10% of people who go to restaurants rate their experiences, and people don’t really trust the reviews that they see online. They think it’s written by a friend or by people simply having a bad day. With Papillae, only your friends and family see your reviews, creating a more trusted review environment.

What challenge were you trying to address with Liorra Tech?

When it became time to deploy our app, I needed to find someone to help with that. Building an app is really expensive, so I was also looking for a partner that gave me time to pay the initial deployment cost.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The team helped us deploy our app, built for iOS and Android, and fix issues to ensure it complied with the App Store and Play Store regulations.

However, 99% of the design work was done by me. I used Adobe to create the screens. Nonetheless, I asked the team to create a screen, and they added some input. For example, Liorra Tech added a spot for a profile picture. If the person didn’t have a profile picture, they added what the screen would say.

We started with the deployment and then had people test the app. We realized that some bugs and things needed to be fixed. We engaged in a three-month contract to fix bugs, create small updates, and determine enhancements.

What is the team composition?

My only point of contact is with the co-founder. I believe that two developers worked underneath him.

How did you come to work with Liorra Tech?

I reached out to a friend who is one of the founders of Liorra Tech. During our conversations, they were nice and helpful. They also understood our financial situation. Building an app takes a toll, and they allowed me some time to pay off the initial deployment cost, saying they didn't need all of it now. So, we made an arrangement, and they continued the work from the previous provider.

We spent 120,000 Rand.

We worked together from October 2023 to June 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Liorra Tech successfully helped us deploy our app. Moreover, our measure of progress and happiness was how quickly and well we completed the points in the Excel spreadsheet. Overall, we were happy that they did their job. They were efficient.

How did Liorra Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

The communication was good. We had a Google Meet meeting once a week. I also used a Google spreadsheet to note the issues that I had identified and take meeting minutes. So, I would send them a message and say I stated this and that. Everything was ironed out in the weekly meeting, and we figured out how to move on.

I have the co-founder's WhatsApp number. If there was an emergency, I could WhatsApp him. They were good with deadlines, and they communicated if there was a delay of any sort. I understood development enough to know it wasn’t a linear process and that if things didn’t work, we had to retry.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Liorra Tech was startup-friendly. In fact, they were nice to me and understood our financial situation. They made allowances to help me get where I wanted to go. It was really nice to work with a company like that.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could make a slightly lower-cost option for startups. I was lucky that I could afford it, but some people weren’t that lucky.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise you to have weekly meetings. Lay out your expectations from the start of the project. Stay in contact with Liorra Tech as much as possible because you are entrusting them with your baby. Keep the lines of communication open.

We hired Liorra Tech to assist in the development of web app for doctors and mobile app for patients to consult with doctors remotely and for both doctors and patients to use other services in the healthcare space that we offer. The platform also offers medicine delivery services, patient remote monitoring as well as ambulance services.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We actually searched for app developers both in Africa and Europe. We initially had telephone interviews and then had face to face meetings with 3 shortlisted bidders. We chose Liorra based on their past experience, diverse skills, enthusiasm, and eagerness to venture into new areas and their ability to conduct research.

We had numerous meetings where we discussed the project's objectives, goals, expected outcomes as well as the social aspect of our offerings. Once we were on the same page, we worked on the designs and specifications together. We arranged to have weekly meetings where progress was presented and we will review what has been achieved, provide feedback and adjust where we needed to. Within 3 months they had patients app done and they then moved on to the doctors web app which was then followed by specialists web app. They have conducted component tests as well as the full integrated system tests before we ran a beta test.

They had a project manager to had the full responsibility of the project that I interacted with almost on a daily basis. They had a front end manager, backend manager whom I interacted with regularly. Outside of that, they have 6 developers who works on the project.

They have delivered a fully operational platform that is launching on the 1st July. Measurable deliverables have been the patients mobile app, doctors web app, specialists web app, emergency app within the app. Also, they have been managing consultants that are doing other things such as marketing, registration with health bodies and governments as well as the compliance.

His project management style is sequential. He provided frequent updates through face to face / video link as well as through emails and telephone. All the deadlines were met and are being met

Their ability to translate plans into action, their overall development skills as well as their attitude.

We had an existing system, Liorra iterated on my solution. Primarily fullstack web development with frontend in React and Backend in Node.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Through word of mouth. I got a referral from a friend, and it was a smooth experience working with them, and I continue to work with them.

Its a retainer based project, I pay a fixed amount to them each month and get access to 2 developers and a project manager. I mainly liaise with the Project manager, and its been very burden lifting to work with them. Basically each week we have a checkin session, and the pm updates me on whats done, and I give advise on what I want.

They also are very responsive, and often send looms to give updates when Im on the move, and I respond via voice notes sometimes, or email. They had to iterate on my tech, build some new features such as the interactive code editor, tutor support system, revamping the Zaio product.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• We successfully revamped our product with brought us atleast 1000 new signups.
• Implemented the interactive learning editor, which increased engagement and activity on our platform
• Implemented mixpanel integration so we can clearly see stats and analysis of what we need

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

No complaints at all as it was very smooth. They were good communicators and very flexible. We were communicating on slack because that is what I am comfortable with. I was only liaising with the PM who was a technical person, easy to talk to and quick progress was happening so no problems at al.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Really flexible and almost instant communication & execution. Whenever bug fixes happened, they were quick to resolve. Also great people to work with, I actually really enjoy working with the team. Good culture overall, and nice people.

I am 100% satisfied their work, can't really suggest any improvements.

I'm the CEO of Splasharoo Limited, an on-demand hand car wash service. We've developed a mobile application allowing customers to schedule car wash appointments.

What challenge were you trying to address with Liorra Tech?

We needed help with mobile app development and design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Liorra Tech has developed and designed our mobile app from scratch. We initially met with two designers to help them understand our concept. We spent about 4–5 days with them, ensuring they understood the app's purpose and process from beginning to end.

The team has developed our iOS and Android app using React Native. Liorra Tech has designed the app's screens, determining what information we need to capture from the registration process, booking, and payment. They've also created the website and dashboard, focusing on the administration part.

Our app is a sophisticated diary system. It captures our customers' details, like location, vehicle registration number, the time and date they want us to arrive, the type of service they want, and a payment method. Liorra Tech built our backend software. We will get updated on the booking and then send our agents out to wash our customers' vehicles.

Now that the app is live, Liorra Tech provides maintenance services. We continue to work with them to add new features and make necessary tweaks.

How did you come to work with Liorra Tech?

We went through a few companies before finding Liorra Tech. We were in the second year of development and had worked with a company in Dubai, but they let us down. We then outsourced the work to India, but the application came back and let us down.

After that, we researched three companies in South Africa, including Liorra Tech. They seemed to understand and visualize what I wanted when we met them.

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent between $60,000–$70,000.

We started working with them in July 2023, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've had about 1,000 downloads so far. The app functions well, and Liorra Tech has promptly dealt with bugs or issues with the app not reacting correctly with the core of niche phones, for example. When we find a bug or problem, we send it to Liorra Tech, who promptly addresses it.

The most important part was the dashboard. Having the application is fine, but what you do behind the scenes for the administration part of how you control it is the primary concern, and Liorra Tech has done an excellent job. Their design was also fantastic; we didn't have to revise it.

How did Liorra Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

We've dealt with four other companies before Liorra Tech, and they're good at what they do. The team understands our project and has the zeal and enthusiasm to build something substantial. They're not just there to get the job and throw us to the side; they put their backs into it.

Liorra Tech is available at all times and works hard. They react quickly to any issues we send their way and get to the bottom of them. We communicate via Zoom and WhatsApp. We also use email if anything needs to be signed or documented.

The team has shown us the development stages using a software platform, but I don't use it much since I need progress updates. Their team has also given me access to their Figma instance, where I can see everything and ensure we're happy.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Although Liorra Tech's price isn't on the lower scale, they get the job done on time and are concise with timings. The team understands how things work from a perspective closer to our company, which is a wholly different dynamic from the companies we've worked with from other places and backgrounds.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be beneficial if Liorra Tech had a business person who could understand the shortfalls of the application. If we had more time, we could have built the app faster and tested it more to see where the pitfalls were before going live. I wish Liorra Tech were next door to work together. However, I can't blame that on them; it takes time to build an application.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I highly recommend working with Liorra Tech. They do exactly what they say they'll do. Save yourself the hassle of going to companies that charge less; they won't deliver an application worthy of your business. Liorra Tech may charge a mid-price, but they'll do the job.
