While our email campaigns had started losing traction, their telemarketing work really cut through the noise. Using telemarketing and email outreach, they were tasked with reaching marketing leaders or budget holders in relevant sectors, with a goal to initiate conversations with companies experiencing underperformance, stagnation, or disengagement with their current agency who may have been looking to switch.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The CEO of Lead Gen Dept said that 30 qualified leads within 3 months would be easy to accomplish, but due to a more precise Ideal Customer Profile the guarantee written into the contract would be 18 to be on the safe side, to be delivered within a 3-month campaign. He was extremely confident that Lead Gen Dept would easily overshoot.

The measurable outcomes were poor. At the end of the initial 3-month engagement, the 30 leads the CEO spoke about did not materialise, and the number of qualified leads who attended meetings stood at 8 or 9. Even at a guarantee of 18, this was very poor. The CEO at that point went into full defensive mode, focusing more on protecting his own backside rather than client delivery.

Fortunately, Ryan and Sanja were fantastic, and agreed to continue working the account until the minimum number of leads was reached. This took an additional 3.5 months, and the campaign was only closed, reaching the bare minimum of the guarantee, more than 6 months after the engagement began. After this happened, I did not hear again from the CEO.

ROAS has also been poor, and if we booked another campaign with Lead Gen Dept, we would be losing money.

In summary, classic overpromise/underdeliver by the CEO (who was otherwise charming and friendly), somewhat rescued by a great attitude and work ethic by the wider team, especially the account management team. Thank you Ryan and Sanja.

Overpromising and underdelivering - unfortunately this is a negative ROI for us and cannot afford to use them again. Senior leadership appeared more concerned with protecting money already paid to them, than actually delivering for their clients.

The lead generation project happened in five phases. In the first phase, we brainstorm to understand our needs and target audience. We then refine our target in the second phase by reviewing potential customer profiles for high-value leads. In the third phase, we built the right message for our email sequence, ensuring the message was engaging and effective in convincing prospects to join a meeting. We then go live with the campaign in phase four, enabling us to generate leads from day one.

Finally, in phase five, we monitor progress by sharing documents between team members that keep track of performance metrics, positive responses and negative feedback.

The Lead Gen Department had two essential resources: Connor, the founder and CEO, and Shirgie, the campaign manager. Both individuals brought invaluable experience and expertise to the department and worked together to ensure a successful lead-generation project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

20 leads in a couple of weeks. Our initial KPI was 5 leads during a month.

The workflow between our team and theirs was extremely effective. Communication between both teams was timely and clear, enabling us to work together in a highly efficient manner with almost no mistakes or misunderstandings. The final outcome was flawless.

What was most impressive and unique about this company was its ability to adapt to a unique market quickly. Despite having yet to experience with utility tech companies, they were able to understand our needs and deliver effective solutions rapidly. Seeing how well they respond to the challenge is inspiring.

We were looking for an external company to provide leads in our target industries - in particular around S&OP in the supply chain space. This was for both sales pipeline generation and to spread the general awareness of graph technology.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

After requesting quotes and pitches from three lead generation companies, the Lead Gen Dept. were by far the best. Price-wise, all three companies were about the same, but the Lead Gen Dept. were the only company that really tried to understand where we were coming from, what we were trying to achieve, and to provide something specific and tailored for us. The other companies just had a standard package and that was that.
