**The Review** — Oct 25, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: Thanks to LaunchPad Lab's support, the client maintained their complex lead assignment process while still operating the core of their business on Salesforce. The team was highly qualified, professional, and easy to work with. Clients can expect a communicative team that gets the job done.
""The workflow with LaunchPad Lab was perfect.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the Director of Business Systems at Lamacchia Realty. My Job requires me to architect all major solutions for our Custom CRM built on the Salesforce Platform as well as oversee the support and development team that works on the system. Lamacchia Realty is a top-rated, fast growing, privately owned Real Estate Brokerage in New England and Florida.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire LaunchPad Lab?

We have a complicated set of rules for Lead Assignment to ensure leads go to the right stake holder. With close to 500 realtors and multiple inside sales staff it became a real challenge to automate a solution that in real-time determines the proper lead owner.

The size of our database in conjunction with the complex set of business rules and ever growing list of agents forced us to hit limitations of the Salesforce Platform. We contracted with Launchpad to assist with a solution that enabled us to keep working within Salesforce but outsource the lead assignment logic off-platform

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

From the start the time Ryan spent with us to really understand the problem spoke volumes. Other firms wanted us to hire them for a project just to scope the project. Ryan and team spent a number of hours doing a deep dive into the business problem to really understand our concerns and needs before we even signed anything.

They also conveyed an unshakable confidence that their proposed solution to our challenge was solvable. It became very obvious from the onset that Launchpad was going to help us to become successful. It felt like a true partnership.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

The project required us to re-engineer our lead assignment process. Originally hosted 100% in Salesforce we exported all the processing in Heroku then send the result back to Salesforce. After preliminary scoping the team spend considerable time up-front to go through the complex web of business rules with us.

Then they set to work over several months coding up the solution with continued check-ins on a weekly basis to give us project updates, scope tracking, and ask any poignant questions to any issues they encountered during their current development phase After their own internal QA process they passed the baton to us for QA thoroughly till we were confident in the end result.

They were constantly accessible during that process to quickly resolve issues as they were discovered. Then we went live which was as smooth as could be. There was barely a hiccup. Given the complexity and number of moving pieces it was impressive how uneventful the go-live process went.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We had 5 people working with us. A Project Manager, a principle solution architect, A dedicated QA resource. A principle developer, and VP of Strategy

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project allowed us to maintain our complex lead assignment process while still run the core of our business on the Salesforce platform and no longer be subject to the Platforms limits for larger data volumes. The process runs real-time and without the frequent errors we were encountering with our prior implementation.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow with LaunchPad Lab was perfect. We are a small team so after the initial scoping was complete it was very hands-off. I could just let go and trust the project was in good hands. If they had questions/issues they communicated swiftly. I always knew where we stood within the scope.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The whole package. They never trivialized our issues or concerns. Every member of the team was extremely competent and professional and fun to work with. It felt like a true partnership. Like we were all in it together and they were going to get the problem solved. I wished we had gone to LaunchPad first rather than initially trying to solve the problem ourselves.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Nothing comes to mind. This has hands down been the best project I've ever worked on with a vendor. From project management, scheduling, coordination, communication, professionalism, timeliness, scope and budget management. They just hit it out of the park

- Industry: Automotive

**The Review** — Nov 10, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab's work has boosted productivity and efficiency within the client's teams and processes by implementing improvements and upgrades to the platform's functionality and ease of use and navigation. The team manages expectations well and has established an effective communication cadence.
"“LaunchPad Lab has done what they said they were going to do.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of Flexco Fleet Services. We are in the automotive remarketing business. The core of our business is buying fleet vehicles from corporations and reselling them.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We needed a company that could help us overhaul our internal customer relationship management system. It was a homegrown system that just wasn't meeting the needs of the technology world today. We wanted to recreate all of our systems with new branding.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

This internal customer relationship management system is the one that our account executives and all of our internal folks use to move vehicles through our process, which involves getting a consignment from a customer and moving the vehicle physically to an auction or a dealer. All of the work that our internal employees do is done virtually — our people are in an office, and all of the vehicles are out in the field.

LaunchPad Lab came in and went through a complete design phase with us. We started the engagement by teaching them the business and our needs, after which they created the solution using Salesforce. They did all of the custom work to retool that system and recreate our CRM tool. They also rebuilt our online auction website using Heroku.

They didn't rebuild the external facing website itself — they rebuilt the portal that allows a customer to come in, see the inventory, and choose a vehicle, which is just one page on the site.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with two teams of 3–5 people at any given time. One of the teams handles the CRM build and data integration, and the other team works on the Heroku integration with Salesforce.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I was introduced to LaunchPad Lab by Salesforce.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $1.1 million USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The most important measure of success is internal customer satisfaction. The solution has made our folks' day-to-day system better and more efficient. It's easier to use, and it's more functional, which boosts productivity and efficiency in our employees’ jobs. They now actually enjoy working in the system, whereas before, it was more of a headache for them. We’re also getting good feedback from our customers on the platform’s functionality and ease of use and navigation.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

LaunchPad Lab has performed well in terms of project management. They’re excellent at communicating, and they were pretty accurate in what they scoped out for us. They lead weekly touchpoint meetings and have set up an effective collaboration cadence.

We used Zoom to communicate and Asana for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

LaunchPad Lab has done what they said they were going to do. They committed to a goal, and they met it. I know it's really simple, but it's really important.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to be upfront with them on what's needed and what's expected so that they've got a clear path forward.

**The Review** — Aug 4, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Adjusting to a changing scope, LaunchPad Lab has continued to hit budget and timeline targets, pleasing the client. Their direct, consistent communication is a highlight, as is their wise consulting on spending priorities and product roll-out strategy. They are a fully fledged innovation partner.
""I have full confidence that LaunchPad can complete almost any project that they’re assigned." "

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I work for a global fintech company whose interests are primarily retail and banking. I work on the innovation team where my job is largely helping bring new products to market, from ideation to roll out.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We’re rolling out a new software product and needed a development team to perform frontend work.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

The product is a marketplace that brings three main stakeholders together; financial institutions use it as a way to connect their customers with the broader community around them. LaunchPad built out the frontend of the marketplace, created profiles, and worked on deal redemption and backend dashboard creation. They work in Ruby on Rails.

What is the team composition?

We work with around 5–6 people. My day-to-day contact is their project manager. Two designers and two developers also work on our account.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

We looked at a variety of firms around Chicago and narrowed our search by using Clutch. There was an existing code base for this project that the selected vendor would have to pick up and run with, so one of our priorities was to find a Ruby on Rails developer.

Our other requirement was experience working in financial services and banking. LaunchPad had some internal staff familiar with those industries. Finally, we did a few demos of our existing products and picked their brain on how they would approach those products. They came back with a concise plan of how they would roll it out. Their nature and team structure mixed well with ours.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent over $100,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since April 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Any project that I’m working on is measured against its budget and timeline. The nature of this project has changed a bit; we’ve modified the statement of work as we learn new information about the project. Ultimately, we’ve been satisfied with what we’ve received compared to the initial budget, scope, and timeline. They’ve hit the mark of releases and key milestones throughout the project.

LaunchPad is very accommodating of internal conversations and schedules we have, ensuring we have the resources to hit our expectations.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve gotten to know their team closely from working with them every day. When I selected LanchPad as our vendor, I focused on their ability to communicate day to day, and they’ve followed through. I’ve always felt that I have the information necessary and the most recent updates.

We work primarily in Asana; LaunchPad added me to their organization so I can monitor their activity as a guest editor.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’ve been upfront with LaunchPad that our goal on the innovation team is to build products quickly, test them, let them fail if necessary, and keep moving forward. Our top priority is to not invest money where we don’t need to. LaunchPad has been great at helping us think strategically about where we should be prioritizing our budget and what features will allow us to scale better. They’ve acted as a consultative partner as we decide when and how we should do things. They’re great at ensuring we’re being smart with our spending without cutting corners. They help us set ourselves up for success as we roll out our new products.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At this stage, I can’t think of anything. I’ve been very satisfied with them and would continue to work with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I have full confidence that LaunchPad can complete almost any project that they’re assigned. First and foremost, they are a good group of people that I enjoy working with. They have the right process for software development — going through the journey with the client.

Anyone that works with them should push them to give feedback, as they’re open and willing to help us think through our rollout and construction. We didn’t want a vendor that would take our recipe, go off for three months, and then deliver exactly what we asked for. We wanted a hands-on partner, and LaunchPad excelled. Anyone who’s going to work with them should leverage them in that way. They have plenty of resources that will ensure your project is a success.

**Feedback Summary**: Equipped with utter control of their development expertise, LaunchPad Lab's team delivered a user-friendly and refreshing web app that secured user and client affirmations. They were receptive to feedback and keen on presenting productive ideas, paving the way for an agreeable engagement.
""We always looked forward to our meetings because LaunchPad Lab was fun and easy to work with."

"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the manager of museum technology at Eskenazi Museum of Art, a non-profit art organization at Indiana University. My main task centers around contacting and hiring agencies that could handle development work for us. I also manage each project that we launch to ensure a smooth transition and successful run.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We needed their team to develop an application that specifically featured one of our exhibits.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We tasked LaunchPad Lab with developing a progressive web application that we could present to our different stakeholders who were part of our exhibit. We specifically wanted LaunchPad Lab to integrate features that allowed users to virtually view any art piece they wanted before or after visiting our exhibit. The web app also had a virtual tour map that guided visitors throughout the museum, which they could access anytime using their devices.

LaunchPad Lab relied on the content and information provided by our team. They then implemented everything into the web app using different technologies and developed a CMS backend to help us customize and manage the platform.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Amy (Product Manager) and John (Product & Client Strategist), who trained some of LaunchPad Lab’s developers to take part in our project.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I was first in touch with John when he was still part of another company. He then contacted me when that collective was acquired by LaunchPad Lab, and we organized a call with our CEO to discuss this project. We both thought that this project was a good fit for LaunchPad Lab, so we kicked off the engagement.

How much have you invested with them?

Our fixed budget for this project amounted to $75,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project ran from October 2020–June 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

LaunchPad Lab was a dedicated team that promptly provided the deliverables we needed, even when they encountered some time constraints. They valued our feedback and created extra mockups or features that augmented the web app’s UX. In the end, we were rewarded with an impressive, user-friendly platform that mirrored both our organization’s style and the theme of our exhibition.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

LaunchPad Lab had an efficient project management approach — they kept things moving forward and provided us with constant updates and productive ideas. On top of that, we always looked forward to our meetings because LaunchPad Lab was fun and easy to work with.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They quickly understood our project requirements and their complexities. We were an art institution with different goals and preferences, and LaunchPad Lab’s team exerted a lot of effort to comprehend those deeply.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were instances where we encountered delays and had to communicate with their team members to get them up to speed. However, those did not impact the outcome of our project, and we were still overwhelmed with its success.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to appoint the right people to collaborate with LaunchPad Lab’s team. That way, there will be a productive exchange of ideas that can further refine your product.

**The Review** — Jul 7, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: The product that LaunchPad Lab delivered has saved the internal team time and has made the process smoother for both third-party clients and advisors. Additionally, the portal has seen high usage rates. The team is very responsive, and their ability to translate technical language is invaluable.
""Their ability to understand a problem and accurately measure how long they think it will take is great."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of Apex Leaders, a service provider to private equity firms around the US. We help to align those firms with industry expertise around the country.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We wanted to create a system that only our clients could see and use to be a part of our process. Before, our clients would send us an email and then we’d do an intake on the phone, put it into our Salesforce system, and then email our client with three leads.

After our client had given us their availability, we would then set up a video call and send a calendar invite. Although this process worked, it wasn’t scalable. A lot of the work wasn’t worth our team’s time.

We wanted to automate everything that we could while making it an interactive process that reinforced our differentiation.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

LaunchPad Lab created a two-sided platform that allows clients to select or reject individuals and then schedule time with them in our portal. The team used Heroku from scratch, which was a different approach to creating a portal.

What is the team composition?

Ryan (Partner) is one of our main points of contact. I’ve also worked with Diana (Software Developer). When we started the project, we had a UI/UX teammate and a project manager.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

We had two massive failures in the development of this portal with two other companies. We then went to Salesforce and told them that we wanted a partner who could work on Heroku, and LaunchPad Lab was one of the companies they pointed to.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent north of $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in April 2018, and our engagement is ongoing. The major part of the development took about 10 months. Once we released publicly, we spent about nine months doing a lot of tweaks. The team is now doing maintenance.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The portal removed a lot of our error-prone manual operations. Additionally, 90%–95% of our clients contact us through our portal. Before, they would go through a separate form. It’s easier for our clients as well as our advisors who can invoice us online.

Something else we measure internally is how many actions our internal teammates have to do to push things through the portal. Right now, 85% of all actions in the portal, are taken by our clients. This also tells us that only 15% of the time do our staff members have to do work on their behalf.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Ryan was instrumental in the early days in terms of transcribing our business needs into technical elements. LaunchPad Lab is using Asana right now, and they’re incredibly timely. If they’re not going to be on time, they tell us.

Their ability to understand a problem and accurately measure how long they think it will take is great. LaunchPad Lab is also very responsive when it comes to maintenance. When we need to change anything or if something doesn’t work well, they respond quickly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

LaunchPad Lab came up to speed on our business very quickly. Given that we don’t fit nicely into a box, the team did a great job of understanding the intricacies of our business and translating them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I love working with them but there are definitely some things that they can improve on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Because I’m non-technical, I had to put a lot of trust in them. I found that they were worthy of our trust and didn’t need to be as micro-managed as other development firms.

I would recommend potential customers to put a little trust in them because they’ve shown us that they deserve it. Also, be prepared to do a lot of QA.

""Their communication was exceptional and had a great impact on the project."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a communications manager for a financial regulator — National Futures Association. We’re the regulator for the derivatives industry in the US.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We wanted to redesign a web application on our website. The app hadn’t been touched for the better part of 20 years with the exception of light facelifts over the years.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

LaunchPad conducted research and ultimately redesigned the frontend of our web app. They collected and evaluated data on usage over several years and benchmarked the project. All of that information went into the wireframes, which we approved. Then, they conducted the design work based on the wireframes.

The system features a series of pages that function as templates. Data populates the pages on the entity that a user searches.

Their team completed a series of pages that consisted of how the profiles would look for an entity in the system. They also created search landing and search results pages.

What is the team composition?

In the middle of the project, LaunchPad had turnover so there wasn’t a set number of people dedicated to us. Our main point of contact was Monique (Head of Design). She actually did the frontend design work for us. Ryan (Partner & CEO) oversaw the project.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

We researched firms in the Chicago area. When possible, we like to engage local consultants because they're able to participate in leadership meetings to get buy-in. I found and spoke with several firms but hit it off with LaunchPad. Based on the folks who started the company, they had an understanding of this project’s unique needs.

How much have you invested with them?

All in, we spent about $75,000 on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We first spoke in September 2017 and engaged them around January 2018. We launched the project around June 2019, but they completed their work around February 2019.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It was an absolute pleasure to work with LaunchPad. The product was better than we could’ve imagined.

They made a concerted effort to understand our business as it related to this project. Their drive to understand our users had a significant impact on their ability to design the system in a way that ultimately was received extremely well by the public as well as our organization’s leadership.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

They used Basecamp to manage the project. Their communication skills and turnaround times were exceptional.

There were several instances later in the project when I had to ask for them to rework features. Monique was responsive and completed the work in an exceptional manner. She helped to get the project done on time at a super high-quality.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication was exceptional and had a great impact on the project. What set them apart was their willingness to understand our business needs at a deep level, which ultimately benefited the tool’s UX.

Their greatest strength was their drive to understand why we asked for features and then translate that information into a product that met our needs. They met with subject matter experts to learn our needs across business units.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, it was a seamless project.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The more information that you can give them the better. They wanted as much data and feedback as possible to access meaningful information that they used to complete their work.

**The Review** — May 15, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab satisfies the requirements by consistently delivering quality work. Their involvement has helped internal stakeholders achieve their goal of scaling the platform to new communities. The team meets deadlines, communicates well, and collaboratively addresses challenges.
"“We’ve been very satisfied with the work we’ve done with them.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the director of data and research at a small nonprofit organization based in Chicago. We work with Chicago public schools to ensure that students have access to arts as part of their education. We’re what is called a backbone organization; we’re not direct service providers, but instead support the universe of service providers that work in that area.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We have a software platform that we had previously built with another firm. We use the platform to support our work.

The platform was built at a very basic level; a lot of it was hardcoded, and it wasn’t very flexible or adaptable. We wanted to rebuild the platform in a way that would allow us to grow and move forward. Eventually, we hoped to scale the platform to new communities beyond Chicago.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

LaunchPad Lab took our existing platform and rebuilt it from the ground up. They fully redesigned the database and converted it from an SQL to a PostgreSQL database. They also redesigned the platform and rebuilt the frontend.

What is the team composition?

Our main point of contact on a project management basis is Stephen (Product Manager). Then, depending on what we’re working on, we interact with 5–6 people.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

We were beginning to think about how to rebuild the platform. We were also considering building a CRM system for our organization. We talked to a handful of different firms, including LaunchPad Lab, and did some discovery work. It took us a while to figure out what we wanted to do, so it took as long as a year for us to go with LaunchPad Lab.

How much have you invested with them?

My company has spent around $500,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in March 2017, and it’s ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re in a routine development cycle with them, so we’re not on a project-by-project basis. We do releases every two weeks. Given the fact that we’re on a release workflow with them, we evaluate the release and assess their work to make sure that we’re still on track with what we want to be doing. We’ve been very satisfied with the work we’ve done with them. We’ve been able to white-label the platform and launch it in different communities outside of Chicago.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We interact with them a lot on Asana. Their project management is good; they meet deadlines, and we’re in regular communication. We know when there are challenges, and we work together to figure out how to adapt them. It works well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We have become much more sophisticated consumers than we were when we went into this process. One thing they’ve done well is adapted their approach to our increasing level of involvement and opinionated perspectives about how to approach things.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing stands out as a real need for improvement. The only things that come to mind are just part of the routine of working with someone. There are moments when things are challenging, but then we always work through them well. I don’t view that as a need for improvement as much as it is a reflection of the fact that you have to figure stuff out when you work with people, and they do a good job of that.

Any advice for potential customers?

Do your best going into the work to figure out what you want the engagement to look like, and try to be as clear as you can about that. Then, you’ll be able to set up a good working relationship in terms of what you need to get out of them and what you’re able to put into the process.

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab's efforts have been integral to the business’ growth, leading to an increase in revenue, customers, and weekly users. The team has strong project management skills and works quickly. Additionally, their commitment to building longterm working relationships is noteworthy.
""I’ve been really impressed with the caliber of the people who work there."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder and CEO of Zcruit, a platform that college football programs use to find recruits and access high quality recruiting data and insights.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We hired them for design work. We had an MVP product that was working with 13 Division I football programs at the time. We initially hired LaunchPad Lab to design our player profiles.

However, they ended up convincing us to take it a step further, which was the right decision. We wanted a professional design to be put together to allow us to build on the product we had. We wanted to expand it and clean it up.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

In the first two months, we had a great iterative process where the team created design screens and honed in on what we were looking for. Afterward, they helped us with the overall look and feel of the product, and then they focused on the profile page experience.

From there, the team worked on the list and filtered views that help users search and find players. Additionally, they built a settings page. I often put the product in front of our users and then communicated the feedback to LaunchPad Lab. From there, we would iterate to get the product we wanted.

What is the team composition?

Our primary points of contact were Monique (Head of Design) and Paul (Director of Product).

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

My company was acquired by a larger company at the end of 2017 and one of the product managers told me to reach out to 3–4 Chicago-based design companies that he had worked with. We reached out to them and we got proposals from them.

We felt comfortable and confident in LaunchPad Lab’s understanding of our scope of work in a high-quality way. Additionally, their price and timeline were very reasonable, and the product manager at our sister company had had a positive experience with them too.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $60,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement began in February 2018, and it’s ongoing. We haven’t done any work with them in the past 16 months but, starting next week, we’ll be engaging in another design project with them that will be more longterm.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since working with LaunchPad Lab, the Zcruit product has grown from working with 13 Division I programs and having $50,000 in revenue to working with 60 Division I programs and having a projected revenue of $500,000 this year.

A lot of that growth is attributed to the design experience that we worked on with them. Additionally, our product usage rates are astronomically higher than they were. Before working with LaunchPad Lab, we would’ve been lucky to even have 20–30 users.

Now, we’re getting north of 400 unique weekly users, which is good for a closed system website like ours. We’ve also tripled the price we charge, which has been exciting and encouraging. Across the boards, it was a great investment with a great ROI. We got everything we wanted out of it.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

We didn’t collaborate over project management tools, but the team was great from a project management standpoint. Along with our two direct contacts, we also had check-ins with one of the co-founders.

In the first two weeks, there was something that we weren’t comfortable with from a communication standpoint, and that was something we were able to remedy very quickly. They pushed out work at an incredibly fast pace and the time that was required of me was very minimal.

When working with our internal design team, it often takes up a lot of my time. However, with LaunchPad Lab, all I had to do was provide them with feedback, and then a week later I’d see drastically improved screens with all of my thoughts, comments, and feedback incorporated.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve been really impressed with the caliber of the people who work there, so I have nothing but good things to say. They’re a high-quality team.

Even though we haven’t worked with them in 16 months, I still grab lunch and catch up with Paul every so often. It’s been a good continuous relationship.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything. Our collaboration was great.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very upfront and thoughtful right off the bat in terms of communicating exactly what you’re looking for and understanding the process. LaunchPad Lab does a great job of telling you which processes work and which ones don’t.

**The Review** — May 5, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab developed a Ruby on Rails platform for a test prep company. The site features individual learning profiles for users, and allows schools to track student data.
"“They continue to prove that they’re a mainstay in our company’s growth.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a test prep organization. We teach ACT and SAT test prep online. We work with students across different socioeconomic backgrounds, non-profits, and public schools, to make sure that our students have access to an engaging education.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

I was about to launch the company and needed to develop a website to host our video content.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

They built the front- and backend of our site. It’s primarily Ruby on Rails, but has a few components in Java. We also needed a way to allow students to have individual learning profiles, and for schools to be able to track data analytics through the backend. We worked on the wireframes and mockups together.

They understood our needs and were able to put together an MVP in 8–10 weeks. That led to our product that could be sold and begin generating revenue.

What is the team composition?

There were 2–3 people who worked on the project.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I took an application development class in college, so I reached out to my professor for suggestions. He provided a list of domestic and international web dev workshops.I vetted all of them with the help of my CTO, and we selected LaunchPad Labs because of their ability to meet our deadlines and their quote.

In the beginning, we were drawn to their client-first focus. We considered a few other companies, but beyond the initial scope meeting, they were able to meet our deadlines, they were more affordable than their competitors, and they could give us feedback on our ideas. It felt like we were collaborating with their team.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $120,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began in February 2019 and it’s ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Overall, the quality is very high and we’ve only experienced a handful of bugs that were immediately resolved. They were able to make those adjustments in a thoughtful and efficient way.

In client calls and demos, I’ve received feedback that the site looks very clean, that it addresses all their major pain points. We’ve also received positive reviews from internal reviews from students in entertainment, education. Users have provided testimonials and have commented that the site is easy to use. In the end, we were pleased with their work. They were receptive to feedback. Initially, we weren’t thrilled with the design elements, but we got exactly what we wanted in the end. They continued to deliver on time and present strong work that exceeded our expectations.

We have been able to continue to scale through our collaboration with them. They continue to offer advice about what different updates we would need to make to grow the platform sustainably.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Also, their product team was extremely communicative. They responded within moments of asking a question. They were focused on making sure that were felt empowered to ask questions and understood what was being delivered. So, communication was very clear.

We use Asana to communicate, and I’m able to rely on their speedy response. It has been a pretty seamless process. Our project manager who is a reliable communicator. We recently were unclear about whether or not we needed to add on hours, but that was a wrinkle that was ironed out very quickly. I can now trust that we’re on the same page when it comes to billing and hours worked.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When building a company, it’s super important that we trust the party we’re working with. We needed them to be available, transparent, and at the top of their game, and LaunchPad Lab always delivers. Other companies might be cheaper on an hourly basis, but the value we’ve received from this partnership has been one of a kind.

They continue to prove that they’re a mainstay in our company’s growth. Beyond the high-quality product they developed, their communication and ever-ready presence is a sign of security and assurance through what could otherwise become a tumultuous journey of entrepreneurship.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Initially,  I would have said their design work, but they’ve done a stellar job at improving that. We’re on the same page about how we can work together moving forward.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Trust that they have your best interest at heart. Also, communicate about wrinkles that come up because they’re particularly receptive to receiving feedback.

I work for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. I’m the Senior VP of finance and administration and CFO.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We were looking to improve the CX on our web store, primarily in regards to ticketing and membership purchases.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

They worked with the API in order to post unique ticket-numbered sales as well as unique purchases or renewals into our PoS system accurately. Our PoS is SQL.

They also designed the UI and screen-flow of the web store in order to make it as efficient and intuitive as they could. They even added a pop up at the end of the screen set that allowed for solicitation for contributions. Recently, they developed a new page for donations.

What is the team composition?

Ryan(Partner & CEO) and Diana (Software Developer) were my main points of contact. There were normally four people on our review calls though.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

They had done some work through our PoS provider. We received an RFP response from them and another company we worked with. We selected LaunchPad lab based on their experience with our product and their presentation.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $85,000 to date.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in December 2017 and we continue to make adjustments or develop new pages.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In 2019, the first full year our system was in place, we saw a 7% increase in both online membership sales and general admission tickets.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Their communication was great. They always met deadlines. They were very good at laying out the schedule and setting expectations.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their effort on this project was definitely noticed. They also addressed peripheral issues as they came up. For example, when our PoS API caused a problem, they were willing and able to help troubleshoot those issues. They’ve always been extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, we were completely satisfied on our end.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure that you’re prepared from the beginning. Commit to the schedule because they’re dedicated to meeting that timeline, but that requires effort on the customer’s part too.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

There was no integrated platform that met the needs of scholarship organizations like ours. We needed a platform that would bring in donations, awards students, and provide school portal and parent portal information. After conducting extensive research into various options, we decided to work with LaunchPad Lab to create our own proprietary platform.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

I originally hired them to develop our website, but our engagement grew and they became our complete technology vendor.

Our main platform is Ruby on Rails. They created a platform with a lot of different tabs on it. It involves school information, which schools and students received the award, the amount, and so forth. There’s a family info section that provides pertinent information and provides a portal for applicants.

There’s a processing component. There’s a donation tab that shows what the donations are from each donor and if it’s available in the system. Then there’s an administrative component that they created for reports, expiration rules, reservation imports, and so on.

What is the team composition?

We have a project manager and two developers. There’s a core group of four people, but they’ve brought in 4–5 other people on a rotational basis depending on what we need. In total, we’ve probably worked with nine people.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

During a major event that’s important for us to distribute these scholarships, the technology our provider used crashed. It was a catastrophe and we needed to fix everything quickly. A tech person at a local incubator recommended LaunchPad Lab to me. They understood this process better than everyone else, so I thought they could deliver what we needed.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in October 2017 and the work is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After they created this solution, all of our reservations and have gone off without a hitch. To put it in context, we have thousands of people come to our site, and it’s first- come, first-served, so that’s very important. Anecdotally, one of our primary contacts in a big school system told us that she had no calls or concerns this year. Before we had this solution, there was a lot of anxiety, panic, and a lot of people didn’t understand how it worked.

We now have an established process that is easy to follow. They did a great job conceptualizing the project and executing it. The process has been very iterative, and whenever we tell them we need something, they discuss amongst themselves and create a solution.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

They primarily use Asana, so we use that to make comments or point out any changes. I think they’ve missed some deadlines, but nobody is perfect, and that was really early on in the project. Now they understand what we need. They have also added another developer, so there’s a little less pressure and they can follow the timeline. They’ve been responsive. I’m a tough grader on this, but in the gran scheme of things, nothing has affected the performance of what we needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They listen, and understand what we want to do. They always come up with creative solutions. They’re very diligent, and it’s clear they’ve bought into our mission.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not at this point.

**The Review** — Apr 23, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab delivered a product that has successfully become an essential part of the business. In addition to having excellent project management skills, the team listens well. Customers can expect an attentive partner who puts the business' needs before financial gain.
""The team doesn’t give you what they think you want; they actually give you what you truly want and need."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m one of the co-founders of Guild Row, a social club for the artisanally curious. It’s a space for people to come together and build relationships by making things.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

One of the biggest challenges we had was to establish an operating taxonomy for all the different activities we wanted to do. We didn’t want it to be a free-for-all because customers need a high-quality structure to be able to experience and learn.

We wanted a digital interface that would allow us to source ideas from members as well as handle all of the logistics around producing a real-life, high-quality experience.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We went through an extensive discovery phase and provided the team with photoshop mockups of what we wanted. A lot of firms wanted to build something from scratch at great expense that wouldn’t have been very flexible and adaptable.

However, LaunchPad Lab found a baseline, off-the-shelf club solution that we could customize to our liking. They created an effective web app that has simple, clear, robust functionalities.

What is the team composition?

Our main point of contact was Brendan (Co-Founder & CTO). Over the course of the project, we’ve worked with 4–5 different teammates depending on the stage.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I previously worked for a tour boat company in Chicago whose website and booking interface LaunchPad Lab had redone. I was really impressed with the work they had done.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $50,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in the spring of 2018 and our engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The product has been incredibly valuable for us. The solution they found kept delivery time and costs down. This showed that, from the beginning, they were thinking of our needs and not their bottom line.

It’s hard to speak to specific metrics because their work is so central to what we do. We have more than 150 members at this point, and it’s a vital component of their everyday experience. Overall, we’ve been successful and this is at the heart of what we do. It’s a very broad metric, but it’s an important one.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

They perform exceptionally well. LaunchPad Lab has been tinkering with different project management tools, including Basecamp and, now, Asana.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re great listeners. You tell them something once, and they know it. The team doesn’t give you what they think you want; they actually give you what you truly want and need.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I have no suggestions. We haven’t encountered any pain points, so we’re very happy.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t be too eager to translate everything into technological language. LaunchPad Lab is able to have a plain-spoken conversation at the outset and then translate it into technological terms when needed.

**The Review** — Aug 27, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: The platform recently launched, but some benefits are already apparent. The process is easier to manage, invoicing is clearer, and there is an increase in early applications. LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) was communicative, and their procedures were effective.
"“They are much more involved in our process than a larger firm might be.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the president of an educational nonprofit focused on international relations.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Kohactive?
We wanted to recreate an online tool and registration portal.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?
The tool helps register various participants from different schools for conferences. They built the platform from scratch. Applicants can submit paperwork and are notified if they are accepted or waitlisted. We communicate and invoice participants through the platform, so the functionality also includes payment processing and a communication portal. The platform is built on Ruby on Rails and Ember.js and integrates with QuickBooks.
What is the team composition?
We primarily worked with two people. One was our main point of contact during development, and we communicate with both now that we've moved into our maintenance phase.
How did you come to work with Kohactive?
We considered three or four competitors but chose Kohactive because of the support they offered. They were a smaller company, and we felt we could get more attention and dedication to the project.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent approximately $70,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project ran from March-July 2019.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our registrations are annual, so it's difficult to pull numerical metrics just yet. Invoicing is simpler, which saves us time. We've also seen an increase in early applicants, and reporting is also much clearer. The whole process is much easier to manage than the old version was.
How did Kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?
The interaction was good. Through weekly calls, we communicated and prioritized what would happen in the next sprint. We faced a little bit of confusion with bug support, but we resolved that after a call. Communication was good, and they effectively ensured that we got all the support we needed. Overall, we're very satisfied.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their process is very good, and we value our access to their leadership. They are much more involved in our process than a larger firm might be.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We were a little lost right after the handoff, and there was a lack of closure. We brought that to their attention, and they're much more attentive now.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Scoping is the biggest consideration. Software development can be unpredictable, and we had one additional week-long sprint that we hadn't anticipated. That isn't attributable to anything that they did wrong but is more a part of software projects like this. Have your priorities laid out well and know the essential features you need to make your project viable.

We weren’t fully satisfied with our current development vendor—our website wasn’t mobile responsive and needed to be redesigned.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We started the project with brainstorming sessions between our teams. They created the initial wireframes and came back to us with new ideas. We worked together to tweak their designs and finalized the strategy. From there, they developed our site using WordPress and created a smooth user experience.

They provide a project manager, who was replaced with another individual.

There’s nothing coming to mind that they could improve on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Approach the project with a clear idea of what you’re trying to achieve. If you provide Kohactive with a straightforward plan, they’ll be able to guide the process.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Kohactive?

Our website was outdated and needed to be modernized to catch up with our competitors. We wanted the platform to serve as an online brochure.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided Kohactive with a list of 5–6 sites we found appealing and expressed specifically what we wanted. From there, Kohactive created the first draft for the platform and we submitted our changes and feedback. Then, we supplied their team with content and they made minor edits for brevity and clarity before finalizing the site.

What is the team composition?

Kohactive supplied a team of 3–4 people for the project.

How did you come to work with Kohactive?

We reached out to several large and medium firms and interviewed between 5–6. We chose Kohactive because their bandwidth to support the project and price-point matched our needs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Have a clear idea of the project goals beforehand, so the scope of work doesn't change as design and development take place. Our website ended up taking a little longer than expected, because we weren't as prepared going into the relationship as we could've been.

"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the owner of Select Home Warranty.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with kohactive?

kohactive has done many projects for us over the last few years. They took over as our developers to revamp a poorly built custom CRM that had been previously developed and got it under control. Our goals for the engagement were to update our CRM and add more automation to the system. They've made a lot of updates to expand it.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

kohactive has provided everything from web design, development, and minor updates to our system to support significant projects. Recently, they integrated our system with Velocify, which is a lead distribution system. The team redid the dispatch portal in our system we use to dispatch technicians and revamped the billing portal that bills customers and charges for recurring billing. They helped us integrate a Redash reporting tool that reports metrics from the database.

Throughout our engagement, they've completed many small updates and changes to the fields and automation. They recreated our permissions system based on which users should have access to different areas. They've also helped us significantly with our program to manage our affiliates.

What is the team composition?

kohactive assigned us a project manager and two developers. John (Founder and Managing Director, kohactive) also worked on our project.

How did you come to work with kohactive?

We posted online that we were looking for a development company and Kohactive responded. After speaking to a few different companies, they sounded the most trustworthy and reliable. Based on our initial few conversations, we felt comfortable giving them a try with a few small projects. It worked out well.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent over $100,000 on kohactive’s services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working together for probably three years now.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

kohactive’s services have had a positive impact on our business. All the projects they have done for us have been a success. They've made the CRM more secure and helped us in emergency situations when things have gone wrong.

Improving our mobile site’s responsivity markedly improved our sales. Beforehand, our site hadn't been very mobile friendly. The team helped redesign a few landing pages, which also notably increased sales. Updating permissions and the CRM has made our website much more secure.

How did kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

The workflow between our teams was very effective. Our communication is great. kohactive uses a system called Trello for major projects. They respond quickly to any urgent issues we experience.

What did you find most impressive about them?

kohactive is very easy to work with. John (Founder and Managing Director, kohactive) is a great person, and we trust his team.

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the co-founder of Jones Software Corp, a company that provides an intervention math software tool for grades K–12th.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with kohactive?

We engaged kohactive to help us develop our e-learning web-based platform.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Kohactive built our e-learning math platform on Microsoft Azure, using JavaScript and Ruby on Rails to create the cloud-based web application. They collaborated with our team on the overall design and incorporated Google APIs that allow us to bring other schools onto the platform.

What is the team composition?

We work with a project manager and about five developers.

How did you come to work with kohactive?

We came across kohactive through a co-working space we're both apart of in Chicago. We interviewed a handful of developers, but kohactive stood out for their ability to understand our project and vision. They also helped us understand various elements of the process we were previously unfamiliar with, which we found extremely helpful.

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested a little under $80,000 thus far.

What is the status of this engagement?

Kohactive has become an invaluable arm of our company and had a very positive impact thus far. We're very happy with the quality of the platform they've built and their efforts have helped significantly boost our IBIDA, which we anticipate to continue growing. They've taken the time to understand our client needs and are quick to support us through any bug fixes or issues that come up.

How did kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

They're great at managing projects overall and maintaining an open line of communication at all times.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Kohactive was one of the few firms willing to work with our unique business plan. Compared to others, we got the sense that they actually cared about building a platform with a high chance of success, so their input has been invaluable throughout the engagement. They'll be honest if they see something isn't going to work, which ends up saving a lot of capital, resources, time, and money in the long run.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No.

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab's (formerly Kohactive's) work resulted in a massive increase in users on the site. The new system enables better communication with users and improved analytics. The team excels in understanding the work and executing it quickly. They deliver clear and frequent communications.
"“We felt very comfortable with them.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a global marketplace for buying and selling of tiny houses, which are homes that are 500 square feet or smaller.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with kohactive?

The website was antiquated and on a limited platform. It ran on WordPress. It was time to take things to the next level. I also wanted to establish a pay per lead system so each time a new lead is generated on the site, we would be compensated for it.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We had quite a few things we wanted to change. Communication with our users wasn’t centralized before but was email based. We wanted to bring that all in-house so we could have more analytics. We developed an internal messaging system through the site where all the messages that are exchanged daily were done internally, in-house, and kept on Amazon Web Services. They integrated a messaging tool called Intercom into the site.

They produced everything from scratch. Our website platform runs on Ruby on Rails. They provided several mock-ups and wireframes. We picked one and kept making iterations until everyone was happy with it. They also established the pay per lead system.

What is the team composition?

At any given time, we had 4–6 designers, one project manager, and the owner/creative director.

How did you come to work with kohactive?

We found them through Glassdoor.com. We did a lot of research and interviewed about 10 companies. kohactive didn’t have the best price, but they had the best communication. We were impressed with their interpretation of our vision and the timeline. We felt very comfortable with them.

How much have you invested with them?

It cost close to $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August 2017–March 2018.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The number of users we have coming to the site has increased exponentially. Now that we have so many more users, we can communicate with them via Intercom on the site. There’s much clearer communication with our users and much better analytics to determine how we can better serve them.

How did kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

We used the agile approach and we used InVision. They’re very good communicators whether it be through Trello or Slack. On any given day, we did daily stand-ups. We had very clear communication daily, multiple times per day.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The owner is willing to get involved in the process. He has the ability to delegate to the team. The team has the ability to understand what needs to be done and they do it quickly.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Before the project starts, schedule an appointment with some of the people that you’re working with to familiarize yourself with how agile will work on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. You’ll then have a better understanding of how to communicate to them within that framework. Also, have a clear understanding of how things will work post-launch.

**Feedback Summary**: Launchpad's team transformed basic sketches into a beautiful, intuitive website. They built out features that continue to be key to the success and online engagement of the business. In the best interest of their clients, their team takes a dedicated, collaborative approach to achieving goals.
"“I'm 100% happy with the final product—they knocked it out of the park.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the director of operations at an education company focused on employment.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Launchpad Labs?

As a scrappy little startup, our first challenge was redoing our pilot website. Once we had proven the marketability of our vision, we needed a website that would help establish a strong and credible presence online.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

I had a good sense of how I wanted the website to look, so I provided some sketches for Launchpad's team to work off of. Through an iterative process, they created a new website on Wordpress that showcased our product offering.

In a second project, they built out our online database, which houses our qualified applicants.

What is the team composition?

The three people I communicated mostly with were Scott Weisman (Co-founder and Developer, Launchpad Labs), Monique Marchwiany (UX & UI Designer, Launchpad Labs), and Ifat Ribon (Developer, Launchpad Labs).

How did you come to work with Launchpad Labs?

As soon as I came onboard, getting a solid website up and running was the most important task I had assigned to myself. I did a ton of research on top website design companies and had conversations with half a dozen vendors. Ultimately, I felt Launchpad understood what we were trying to achieve and were the most flexible. They really believed in our mission and wanted to deliver a great end product, and they were willing to work with the budget we had available at the time.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together on the website in the Summer of 2016, followed by the database project in February 2017. While we don't have any active projects in the works now, their team remains available for website maintenance and to answer any questions we may have.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Launchpad was able to transform the very basic sketches I sent their team into a beautiful website. I'm 100% happy with the final product—they knocked it out of the park.

We get so much great feedback on our website from both applicants and potential partners. It's really helped us get a leg up in this space. The database that they built out has been a key resource in keeping our partners engaged and excited to work with us. It's very user-friendly and intuitive.

How did Launchpad Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

I loved that it was a very iterative process, with lots of back and forth and conversation throughout. They were extremely collaborative, even as I continued to blow up their inbox with various ideas and design changes. Open and receptive to my input, they worked in every detail of the website I wanted and took a hands-on approach to getting it all done.

We communicated mostly through Basecamp once the second project started, and they've always been great about getting back to us within 24 hours. If for some reason they predicted a delay, they were transparent about it.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate their willingness to engage with me on every minor detail of the website. They've been incredibly collaborative in everything they've done for us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. They're on top of everything.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don't be afraid to show them a really basic idea of what it is that you want, even if it's just a sketch on a sheet of paper or mockup in Word. It helps them understand that end product you're envisioning that they can help make a million times better.

**The Review** — Feb 15, 2018

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab successfully linked multiple programs, creating simplicity and efficiency within the new platform. The platform increases communications capabilities for both work and safety needs. The product is still in testing and development but is exceeding expectations so far.
"“Their strength is their phenomenal ability to take our vision, understand it, and develop it.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the senior director of operations for a facility services company. I assist with all of our accounts throughout the country and I’m currently spearheading the development of our product with LaunchPad Labs.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?
At the start of every contract for employment, we give our employees a schedule that tells them what they need to do and at what time. A lot of schedules were lost or thrown away within the first week in that system.
We needed a platform for continuous communication with our frontline employees where we could push out schedules and information. This would help ensure that the scope of work is met on a nightly, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?
We started with brainstorming sessions to inform LaunchPad of the gaps that we had. We asked our employees, supervisors, leads, managers, and customers about what’s important to them. LaunchPad did their own interviews with many of our stakeholders and brought common themes to the table. We developed a plan based on what themes were most important to us.
They took a lot of our programs and streamlined them in a few phases, starting from scratch. Different systems talk with one another and pull into one system, which was our ultimate goal. We wanted to work smarter, not harder. We’re still adding features.
The web-based platform also gives our supervisors and our managers personal cell phone information for every employee that reports to them so they can easily communicate if needed.
What is the team composition?
We worked with Ifat (Software Developer, LaunchPad Lab), Scott (Co-founder and Developer, LaunchPad Lab), and one other person.
How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?
We met them at a tradeshow.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in May 2017 and the work is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They’ve been able to do all the work that we’re looking for in our platform. A lot of our sites are already testing the system out in the field. We’re getting some feedback about things to improve and we're testing every feature to make sure there are no issues. It’s been going really well. As of now, it’s exceeded our expectations.
With what they’ve put together for us, we’re able to communicate to our staff what’s expected of them.
How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
Ifat and Scott have been intimately involved throughout this whole process. They were great to work with. They’re on the same page with us for anything we need or ideas we have. When I tell them my vision, they see that vision in a developer’s mindset. I tell them what I’m looking for and they explain to me exactly what I’m talking about. I can log in and see the features on the development site prior to them being pushed out.
Their communication and timelines have been spot on. They’ve exceeded our expectations in how quickly they developed the various aspects of this platform. When I send a message, Ifat usually responds with new materials within an hour.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their strength is their phenomenal ability to take our vision, understand it, and develop it. They’ve been a wonderful extension of our staff. They found a way to implement our vision of the platform. They’ve been able to tackle everything that’s been thrown at them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be open and share your entire vision with them. Don’t try to hold anything back because you think they can’t accomplish it within your budget. Tell them exactly what you want and what your end goal is and they will work within your budget parameters. Don’t think any project is too big for them.

**The Review** — Feb 13, 2018

**Feedback Summary**: The team was responsive and transparent about cost and developed the labor-intensive core architecture. This time-consuming work enabled in-house developers to focus on critical new features. Launchpad Labs yielded a product that matches expectations and remains a resource to answer questions.
"“They clearly laid out what they were capable of, and gave us a reasonable price.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the CEO and co-founder of a university recruiting platform. We help colleges standardize and distribute student information to employers for hiring purposes and organize their recruiting practices.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Launchpad Labs?

Our company is relatively new to the market, and there's not a lot of technology in the university recruiting space. We hired Launchpad Labs to develop the initial app. When I first engaged with them, it was still just an idea, which they helped flesh out and develop.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Launchpad Labs conducted product discovery and customer interviews starting from day one. They asked all the right questions to figure out what I wanted. The web platform's design was based on wireframes developed by another vendor. Since this was my first foray into tech development, they knew exactly what I hadn't considered. They helped me figure out problems that I didn't even know existed, which was really helpful. In the long term, that saved me a lot of time grappling with first-time entrepreneur or tech founder problems.

What is the team composition?

One of the great parts of Launchpad was that I knew exactly who to speak with about each type of feature and problem we ran into. I had contact with one product manager and one developer who was the technical lead. I'm aware that other software developers were also working on this project. At one point, there were different product managers for respective features, but it was great to only have two points of contact. They dispersed information wherever it was needed.

How did you come to work with Launchpad Labs?

We first found them via a Google search. As a senior at Purdue University, I’m relatively young. I couldn't relate well to the management of several other development companies I spoke with. They were much older than the young group of people who run Launchpad Labs. We held several meetings before starting a formal relationship, so I was really able to get to know them. Since we were going to be working together for a long time, it was important that we got along well.

How much have you invested with them?

I've invested around $85,000 in their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2017, and they started development in late February or early March. They were able to create a prototype within six weeks, by April, and finished most of the development by October 2017. We're still working with them a bit here and there. We've brought development in-house, but Launchpad Labs is still a resource for our developers to reach out to and ask questions about the initial architecture and features they worked on previously.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They've built a great product. Two engineers who work for us now, very talented developers, have said that the work Launchpad Labs did was incredible. They're really glad they did much of the initial heavy lifting. The team took care of the core architecture, which was very time-consuming. That work made it much easier for developers to focus on critical new features.

How did Launchpad Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

The team was very responsive and upfront about the cost and number of hours they thought it would take. We mainly use Basecamp as a project management tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their greatest strength was their ability to execute on what they said they were going to do. They clearly laid out what they were capable of, and gave us a reasonable price. It was very simple to engage with them, and they delivered a product rather quickly. There wasn't much more I could ask for.

**The Review** — Jun 14, 2017

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) delivered a successful platform and remain engaged as necessary. When the first design wasn’t ideal, the team gamely produced a better, more accurate version. They were helpful and responsive, and they took responsibility for staying on time and on budget.

""They’re great to work with in general, very helpful, and just a really good team."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work for a private equity firm focused on investing in middle-market companies. I am an associate in the marketing an investor relations role. I am in charge our engagement with our investors. We raise outside capital and then invest it in public pension funds, private wealth managers, and things like that. We invest, on behalf of them, into relatively large, private companies to help improve them operationally, and then ideally sell it at a profit, then return the capital back to the investors.
I engage with investors on a pretty regular basis. I’m in charge of giving them the information they need on the portfolio companies and giving them updates periodically. We wanted the information we gave our investors to match how we showed ourselves externally, so we decided to update our website. That’s how that digital marketing aspect came in.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Kohactive?
We’re a middle-market firm focused on investing in sustainability and wellness companies. We hadn’t updated our website in at least 10 years, and it really needed a facelift and an update to coincide with our brand, how we wanted to be perceived in the world, and who we thought we were. We wanted to give it a fresher look to match how we perceived ourselves and how we wanted others to perceive us as well.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?
They just did the website redesign, and they did a really great job. We were very happy with how it worked with them. They were very engaged, very responsive to our emails. They came up with a lot of really creative ideas and really listened to what we were getting at. When things didn’t go how we envisioned the first time, they took a second crack at it. They were really great in that regard. It’s an information site built on WordPress.
How did you come to work with Kohactive?
I talked to a few different website developers. We decided to go with Kohactive for a number of reasons. A co-worker at the firm has a friend who had previously worked with Kohactive and highly recommended them. They were reasonably priced compared to their competitors. Looking at their work, they were doing exactly what we wanted for our own website.
How much have you invested with Kohactive?
I don’t know off the top of my head.
What is the status of this engagement?
We had a pretty short, three-month timeline from start to finish. We launched it in October or November of 2016.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
I am definitely satisfied with their performance. They’re still very helpful when something isn’t working right or we have questions. They’re very responsive to our emails. I think it was a very successful project. They’re great to work with in general, very helpful, and just a really good team.
We have annual meetings when all the investors come, and we present to them about annual updates on our portfolio companies. We launched prior to our annual meeting, and we got a lot of positive feedback from our investors. We’re not a consumer-oriented company, so we don’t expect a lot of traffic to our site outside of potential investors or portfolio companies that might be interested in partnering with us. So, we have a limited number of people who look at our website. The website has been operating smoothly since the launch.
How did Kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?
They were very responsive, and they made sure we stayed on task and on budget, which was very important to us.
What did you find most impressive about Kohactive?
I think they’re very creative. They sat down with us and listened to how we viewed ourselves, in order to put a pen to paper and put it on a screen. I think that was very helpful. They put together something I don’t think I could have done myself in terms of vision. I think they were really great in that regard.
Are there any areas Kohactive could improve?
No. I think they were really great.
Do you have any advice or suggestions to help other clients be successful when they work with Kohactive?
It’s important to have a clear and concise vision of what you’d like to see on your website and how you view yourself, then communicating that to them very clearly. This will help to avoid confusion and assist them in taking a great first crack at it. In our case, they did a really great job, but if you’re not clear and communicative, there could be issues.

#### MVP Website Launch for Sports Fantasy Startup

**The Review** — May 30, 2017

**Feedback Summary**: Since launching several weeks ago, the platform has successfully supported testing with 50–60 users. LaunchPad Lab's (formerly Kohactive's) strong coding skills and cost-effective price point allowed the site to meet all original requirements and accommodate an evolving product vision.
""They responded to emails quickly and did everything they could to make me happy.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

FanMatchup.com is a startup gaming site that combines daily fantasy sports with confidence pool rules. I have arranged it like DraftKings and FanDuel where users can create contests, and the site makes money by taking a percentage of the entry fees. That's the long-term goal. Right now, I'm doing free contests to try to increase interest.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Kohactive?

I'm trying to break into the industry. I have an original intellectual property concept that I designed over the last few years. I chose Kohactive to build the site.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

I spent a lot of time putting the design together in Photoshop and other programs. Kohactive took my design and built it exactly the way I wanted. They're always adding and changing things. They had to create a home landing page. Kohactive used Ruby on Rails and Ember to build the app and deployed it on Heroku. We do Facebook and Twitter, but they're not really doing much of the marketing.

They built the platform for football. After football season ended, we wanted to continue, so they added baseball. Right now, we're doing baseball contests, but the main goal is having the site primed for football season this upcoming year. In the daily fantasy sports world, football is the dominant participation. Eventually, I would like to do football, baseball, hockey, basketball, and golf, but getting the stats for all of those is pricey, and I really want to have clients first.

How did you come to work with Kohactive?

I interviewed a number of companies when we were deciding how to build the site. Kohactive came up through my searches for firms in Chicago. I met with 5 or 6 people in the area, and they seemed to be the most reasonable. Other companies said they couldn't take on a project like this, and 2 others asked for higher prices. Kohactive had a whole startup section targeted at building a minimal viable product (MVP) within my price range.

How much have you invested with Kohactive?

The original MVP was $30,000. Since then, we've added close to $6,000–$10,000, so I could be at $40,000 pretty soon.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the work in last September. It took few months to get everything running the way I wanted. The site is currently live. I post new contests every day to get people interested. It really is going to be an evolving process. Right now, the startup is just me. Hopefully, Kohactive will maintain responsibility for changing and adding to the existing site until I can hire a CTO or bring in some coders.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

The website looks the way I wanted it to look, and it's working the way I wanted it to work. Kohactive did a great job with the coding. Their MVP met my goals and can accommodate add-ons. I want to add 5 new things to the site already, as well as continual adjustments.

We've been testing the site with about 50–60 people. During the last 4 weeks of football season, we had about 20 people enter. Since we went live 2 weeks ago, we're pushing it on Facebook and Twitter and trying to get more users.

How did Kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

They responded to emails quickly and did everything they could to make me happy.

What did you find most impressive about Kohactive?

Overall, I'm happy with Kohactive; they did what I needed. This was their first time doing a daily fantasy sports site, and they have been helpful when something needed to be changed.

Are there any areas Kohactive could improve?

A minor negative is their design abilities. if you want to build a totally original design or concept, more preparation really expedites the process. When Kohactive had to design something like my homepage, it took too many hours. Besides that, I think they're bright coders, and the owner, John, is receptive to ideas.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Kohactive?

Try to be totally prepared with your design. The more prepared you are up front, the faster Kohactive can work. If you leave the design to them, the hours could add up.

**The Review** — Apr 4, 2017

**Feedback Summary**: Although LaunchPad Labs’ project management declined after the initial project launch, they provided personable service at an affordable rate. The new site boosted traffic by 225% in the first few months.

""They’re easygoing, and it’s pleasant to work with them. They give us great advice."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the director of marketing at a nonprofit that does sexual assault prevention through live and online programming.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?
We needed a new website. We had rebranded and our old site wasn’t mobile-friendly. Also, our previous site was all built on Flash, which means you can’t measure or track anything. It was chaotic, and we didn’t really understand what was being communicated on the site, so it was time for a change.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?
LaunchPad Lab created the framework and the look and feel using branding we provided. We gave them information about what we wanted on the site, and they restructured the entire setup. They built it from scratch using the Locomotive CMS. We do the SEO and content marketing ourselves, but they built the site to allow everything to be tracked.
We wanted a clear and fresh look. We have different sexual assault prevention programs for military, college, and corporate audiences, so we wanted a clear message about the programs that are good for each group. LaunchPad built a way to see all programs together, but also filter the programs for a specific audience. It’s an easy way for a user to see programs based on individual needs, instead of browsing through the entire website.
We already had a blog page, but it was very chaotic, so LaunchPad put an emphasis on being able to find all blogs within a certain topic.
How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?
I checked out a couple companies at the time. I felt that LaunchPad really understood our ideas, and they were in the right price range for us.
How much have you invested with LaunchPad Lab?
I think it was $20,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started January 1st, 2015, and the site launched in July of that year.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
I don’t have the stats available. As we couldn’t track anything on the old site, we didn’t have a clue about how many visitors we had. However, I believe there was a 225% increase in usage over the first couple months. I think people are staying longer on the site now.
How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
They were great for the first six months, but they’re not as fast in responding now. Sometimes it takes them a while to get back to us.
What did you find most impressive about LaunchPad Lab?
They’re easygoing, and it’s pleasant to work with them. They give us great advice. They have a lot of ideas on social media and how to track our numbers.
Are there any areas LaunchPad Lab could improve?
We chose Locomotive based on their advice, but I don’t think we would make that decision again. We’re not really excited about the system. Their response could be quicker. But I do think they’re a great company with super-nice people. They deliver nice work.

**The Review** — Apr 3, 2017

**Feedback Summary**: The launched site met all branding objectives and offers superb accessibility for individuals with low vision. The interactive guides produced by LaunchPad Lab continue to attract new constituents and donors, increasing web traffic for both national and affiliate entities.
""They have a proactive approach to making recommendations they think will support our goal.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

Prevent Blindness is a nonprofit founded in 1908. We’re the leading eye health and safety advocate for patients and consumers. We focus on eye disease, eye health education and awareness, vision screening for children, and policy advocacy issues relating to eye and vision health. I’m a senior director of marketing and interactive communications.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

As a nonprofit, we don’t have a lot of money for marketing, but we wanted to create an appealing consumer- and patient-oriented site with our available funds. LaunchPad Lab seemed excited about our mission and was willing to help us revitalize our web presence and update our online technology.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve helped us with multiple projects, including our main website redesign and a number of interactive tools. We’re now working on the third project with them, and it’s been very rewarding.

We have a large website presence that includes hundreds of pages on eye health and safety issues and promotes our news and events. We’re a national and affiliate organization: the national organization runs websites for a number of affiliates in different states. We had a fairly large CRM challenge to make the site available to our affiliates, allowing them to do independent updates and administer edits on their own. Creating a site that can accommodate that CRM need was a challenge, but LaunchPad Lab found a good solution at a decent price.

It’s a Drupal site, and they updated that platform for us. They used a number of plugins and some custom tools. They really did it from start to finish. We had a logo, basic branding guidelines, and some requirements to ensure accessibility for people with low vision. LaunchPad Lab did everything from there—all the site design and concepts. They also helped us with SEO.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I was looking for vendors for a potential app targeting people with age-related macular degeneration. I found them and got some good recommendations for their work. We did that project and asked them to give us a quote for the website redevelopment. Since then, we’ve expanded on that initial project. We’re now working on a guide for people with diabetic retinopathy. LaunchPad has also worked with us on a number of interactive eye disease guides plus the national website.

How much have you invested with LaunchPad Lab?

The investment is in the $50,000 range for all of that work.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in 2015, and the relationship is ongoing. The current project is almost complete, and we’ll probably ask them to do another project within the next three to six months.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or impact of the engagement?

LaunchPad Lab produces excellent results. We get a lot of good feedback from our constituents, partners, donors, and sponsors. The interactive guides they created helped us connect with new constituents. Their work has helped us with donor and constituent acquisition. We’ve definitely seen an uptick in web traffic on the national site and most of the affiliate websites since launching. It’s a good marketing tool for potential sponsors, partners, and donors.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

The projects were delivered on time. We had some flexibility in the first project, but the website redevelopment was on a strict timeline. They’ve been good about getting the projects done within the timeframe we created. The current project is ahead of schedule.

What did you find most impressive about LaunchPad Lab?

They have a proactive approach to making recommendations they think will support our goal. Their quality control and review is very strong, and I like their design work. It’s been a pleasure working with them.

Are there any areas LaunchPad Lab could improve?

They’re a small organization, but they give us a lot of personal attention. I never felt that they were struggling to find time for our project. I assume they’re still growing, and they have all the challenges of being a small organization. They’re trying to grow at the right pace; so far, I think they’ve done a very good job managing their resources among their different clients.

""LaunchPad Lab uses the most modern technology prevalent in the industry today, instead of leveraging on platforms they’ve been using for a long time.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

Cobalt Solutions designs, develops, and delivers mirror-processing cloud applications for the human resources market.

What is your position?

I am the founder and president of the company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What business challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

We had begun working with a different development team that was not performing well. I wanted a fresh start.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

LaunchPad Lab jumped in, put a team on our project, and did a phenomenal job. They not only organized content and understood the problems we were trying to solve, but they also saw our vision in terms of design, which they carried over into a holistic product.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I knew one of their founders and contacted him directly regarding the current opportunity. I had seen the previous products built by LaunchPad Lab, understood their process, and knew that they could get the work done. I didn’t go through a rigorous selection process but rather gave them a chance to jump in and fix the work done by the previous team.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The total project cost is anticipated to be around $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with LaunchPad Lab in November of 2015. The project is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any statistics, metrics or other feedback from this engagement?

The quality offered by the development teams has been top-notch. The graphical user interface and frontend portions have been completed. The software is very responsive; it works quickly and delivers on the vision of creating a simple-to-use application for the average end user, unlike many other software applications.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re very good at communicating to the client what it is that they need to work on. Any changes to scope have been documented, and the work product is outstanding.

What distinguishes LaunchPad Lab from other providers?

Having a diverse team has made a difference. Their project manager has made sure that the work is on track, they have a very good graphic designer who has delivered a clean user interface, and their developers are very good at getting things done quickly. LaunchPad Lab uses the most modern technology prevalent in the industry today, instead of leveraging on platforms they’ve been using for a long time.

Is there anything LaunchPad Lab could have improved or done differently?

They’ve been solid in terms of what they’ve delivered. We sit at the top-end of the estimates in terms of what it would take to build a 1.0 product. The project has required more than we initially thought, but we’ve also taken the product further than we had ever envisioned for an initial release.

LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) came up with solutions to various design challenges and demonstrated good project management. The team was communicative of their own accord, although there was sometimes a few days gap between project updates.
""LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) hit the nail on the head with every task we gave them.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

We are called Can Do Inc. We have designed and created a mobile application that connects a college student with a problem to another student within the same campus who can solve that problem.

Whether they have broken their phone screen or need to put together some IKEA furniture, they can log on to the app, create a job and, from that, seek someone on the campus who is able to fix it. We receive a 15 percent commission from each job provider, after its completion. Transactions are done entirely through the app, and it is a free download.

What is your position?

I am the president, chief financial officer, and one of the founders of the company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What business challenge were you trying to address with kohactive?

We needed help in developing our application.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

They've facilitated the development of the app for iOS, working with our creative designer to implement a prototype. They've worked on the creative design of the app to a limited extent. We're also working with kohactive on website design for our company.

[Editor's Note: The project also involved UX/UI work and was completed using Ruby on Rails and Heroku.]

How did you come to work with kohactive?

We reached out to five different development companies in the city of Chicago. We met with each one, going through a discussion process around the application, seeing if they had any ideas for it and what their level of interest was.

After that, each company submitted a proposal. Our team assessed which of them had the best input as a whole, and kohactive were chosen as a result. We liked them and thought that they understood our idea. They were eager to work with us on the project.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The total development cost so far has been between $50,000 and $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Work on the application is almost finished. At this moment, we're in the middle of developing our website.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

They were helpful and accommodating with everything that we needed, and worked with us in coming up with solutions to initial design issues we had with the application.

We sent out 250 to 300 different renderings of our app to kids on college campuses as well as having an initial think tank about the idea itself. The satisfaction rate has been around 80 to 85 percent.

How did kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

kohactive hit the nail on the head with every task we gave them, taking our initial renderings and functional specifications producing the final product we were looking for. They reached out to us, sending constant updates of different variations that they proposed.

What distinguishes kohactive from other providers?

They were very helpful and committed to each project. They never treated any task as if it was inferior to another. As a small startup company, we felt that kohactive, being a small company themselves, would be more inclined to understand our motivation. They understood that we function within a competitive market and have pushed us to the next level.

Is there anything kohactive could have improved or done differently?

At times, there was a bit of a lack in communication, from my standpoint. There could be periods of two days without talking, in the midst of the project. I would have preferred to stay ahead of these things. Otherwise, they were great.

**The Review** — Dec 17, 2015

**Feedback Summary**: The MVP has won several awards at the national level and has been very successful in meeting targets. LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) successfully turned a tedious aspect of research into a fun one. The team has good project management, regular communication, and allows access to the codebase upon request.
""LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) knows much more about the technology side and ensures that I achieve my outcome.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

My idea started a few years ago: collecting and crowdsourcing the content that is generated in federal labs around their intellectual property. I thought this information had tremendous commercial potential so I decided to start a business around the idea.

What is your position?

I am a cofounder with one other main person.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What business challenge were you trying to address with kohactive?

We hired kohactive to build a platform for collecting and aggregating intellectual property, which we ultimately push out and move to the private market.

We wanted to make things more efficient and provide access. We do a lot of work with the Department of Defense and the Air Force. They are seen by their national and local communities as a kind of black box. As taxpayers, we spend billions of dollars in R&D [research and development]. There's been a lot of research that has been deployed to our military to serve war-fighting needs, but there's also a lot of economic value in those inventions. kohactive has helped us take that information, shed light on it, and use local incubators, accelerators, universities, serial entrepreneurs, and investors to add valuable knowledge to the markets where those inventions can be repurposed.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

I brought the architecture of the software to them. I had an idea of how I wanted it to operate, and they started building it in sprints, which we'd deploy to our customers and users. kohactive did some design work, and a lot of back-end work. It's a very complex piece of software with many user roles and permissions. We have many stakeholders in our user base that have different reasons for using it. They helped design the best UI [user interface] and UX [user experience] for our needs at the time.

They did some front-end design as we rolled it out to more users. It had to look a little bit friendlier than a minimum viable product. They didn't do any training for the software. I handled that myself.

[Editor's Note: The project also involved UX/UI work and was completed using Ruby on Rails, Anjular, and Heroku.]

How did you come to work with kohactive?

I had been working with a few freelance developers. They were terrible. I had project requirements that I delegated to a few people and, typically, things didn't work correctly, if at all. It wasn't up to my standard. I had one freelancer who was basically a fake. We kept spending money, and I never received updates. That was the last straw.

My business partner also suggested we should hire a development shop as this was going to be a bigger project than we'd thought. In March 2015, I started looking up web development firms on Google. I saw that kohactive had been rated best in the previous year. I spent a couple of hours on their site, looking through their testimonials and previous work. They worked with startups and built minimum viable products, which they actually called minimum lovable products. That term really stuck out. I would be having people using it, so it shouldn't look crude. I wanted it to be loved and to be able to log in and play with things.

I sent them a message on Sunday afternoon. I didn't expect to hear back, but I got a note that night, and we had a meeting the next morning.

I looked up John [Koht, principal and creative director of kohactive] online, and saw that he was a whiskey lover. I picked up a bottle of Chicago Whiskey, and brought it to the meeting, saying I was in desperate need of their help and wondering if they could work with me. We worked it out and signed a contract the next day.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

To date, we've invested $70,000 to 80,000 into the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in April 2015. The work is ongoing. We have kohactive on a monthly retainer.

We have a minimum viable product and people are using it, but we've had a lot of notoriety within the federal lab system because of kohactive's fine work. We've won many awards for our platform on a national level and more people want it. kohactive continues to enhance the existing features, and also add new things.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

The Air Force Research Lab is our biggest client. They have an unusual legal structure for doing business. You have to go through the right channels to transact with the federal government. We work with many partnership intermediaries across the country. Last year, one of the labs that we were working with won a few awards for the process that we deployed with them. That was the basis for a lot of the software that we built.

This year, the executive director of the entire Air Force Research Lab [Doug Ebersole], who has around $8 billion to $9 billion for R&D available to him, has endorsed our platform and will be using it in 2016 across multiple labs. We're also getting a lot of traction with multiple Department of Defense labs for deploying it within the universities and the various communities with which they work.

This isn't the most glamorous field. We're inputting intellectual property and dissecting inventions, and doing this with Excel spreadsheets can be tedious. kohactive made that fun. I have a few administrators for the platform, who add inventions, labs, and edit features of those inventions. They love it. We're making something that was tedious before seem fun. The labs we work with didn't actually want to do any of this before.

How did kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Trello for project management. I have access to the codebase, too. I can change and edit things, so I manage the project with John and his team in parallel. That gives me a greater feeling of control. This is our software, we've invested much into it, so I don't want to hand it to someone and not get what I expect. I appreciate the processes and tools that they use, which allow me to achieve the outcomes that I want.

What distinguishes kohactive from other providers?

They spend much time with me and have the right tools and processes in place. I want things deployed very quickly, and there's a necessary process for each step. I talk to John on a weekly basis and meet him face to face. He gives me plenty of time for expressing my concerns, not about the team, but about what I'm trying to get done and making sure that I'm meeting objectives within my timeline and budget. His team has always been able to resolve this. Communication is always good.

I appreciate what John and his team do. This kind of business is very people focused and many engineers and developers tend to have their heads down and build things without trying to understand what you're trying to achieve. John has spent an extraordinary amount of time with me, making sure that they're building exactly what I need. He even challenges me.

There are things that will cost a lot of money – features that I get enamored with. We sometimes have to take a step back and ask if we really need a particular feature and if there isn't something more important to the user base that we can roll out. kohactive knows much more about the technology side and ensures that I achieve my outcome. I've come to appreciate that.

""They gave us the proper guidance, and the end-result was fantastic, exceeding our expectations..""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

I work for a restaurant group in the Chicago area.

What is your position?

I provide social media management support.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What business challenge were you trying to address with kohactive?

Our goal was making sure that our webpage is current and relevant, and has the appropriate social media links.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

We've worked with the kohactive team to enhance our website. We had an older website but it badly needed an update of the content, design, with a focus on social media and retail links.

They created the website for us, made sure it had the appropriate links for retail purposes, and worked with social media.

[Editor's Note: The project also involved UX/UI work and was completed using Wordpress and WooCommerce.]

How did you come to work with kohactive?

We were referred to them. We'd done research between kohactive and another company. When we priced out the work, kohactive was much more cost effective. Also, we preferred the look of the sites that John [Creative Director] and his team had created.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

This is confidential. I don’t want to share financial information.

What is the status of this engagement?

The work was completed in the middle of 2015. I don’t remember the exact month.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I am completely satisfied. kohactive was very easy to work with, and are very savvy in their technical field. They gave us the proper guidance, and the end-result was fantastic, exceeding our expectations.

I haven’t received much feedback for the site yet.

How did kohactive perform from a project management standpoint?

They did a great job and gave strong advice throughout the project.

What distinguishes kohactive from other providers?

Their level of customer service and care is exceptional. They spend a great amount of time with us, in person and via email, in order to accommodate all of our needs. The service was phenomenal.

Is there anything kohactive could have improved or done differently?

No, not at all. No big things to note.

**The Review** — Aug 25, 2015

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab delivered a site that receives positive feedback from its visitors, especially on its aesthetics. The site attracted press coverage which increased book sales. LaunchPad Lab excels by providing customer-specific services. The agency is responsive and friendly.
""They were truly great. It's my pleasure to talk about these guys. They're awesome.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

It's a book and a reform movement effort called "Unlock Congress." I wrote the book and created a website for it. It's centered on marketing the book and getting folks to sign up and learn more about the reforms I propose and how they can be involved. That's the overall goal.

What is your position?

I am the author and head this movement.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What business challenge were you trying to address with LaunchPad Lab?

I wanted to sell copies of my book but, more importantly, get people involved by having them participate and interact with me and others online.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

It was for website development. LaunchPad Lab trained me on how to do various things on the site and helped me learn about analytics and how to compose email marketing messages on MailChimp and send out newsletters and create and design elements. They've been terrific all the way around on those tasks.

How did you come to work with LaunchPad Lab?

I know one of the principals of the company. I met with him and he actually connected me to a developer separate from LaunchPad Lab to work with, and then that developer actually ended up partnering and becoming part of LaunchPad Lab. I was glad to work with them because the principal, Scott Weisman, and I are friends. I knew I could trust him, and he's been great.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

It was $10,000 to $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

It's mostly completed. They help me now and again when I need assistance or have a question related to my website.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I'd rather not share the statistics. It's a practice that I maintain to be confidential. The anecdotal evidence I hear mostly from people who see the site person to person is the site looks clean and beautiful and they love it. I've also had media coverage and producers on television and radio and also print journalists that have come and covered "Unlock Congress" and the website was a portal for a lot of them. My strong website has built credibility in "Unlock Congress" so that I can attract media coverage and, hopefully, sell more books, this is attributed to LaunchPad Lab's work.

How did LaunchPad Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

I'm more than satisfied. The design of the website is beautiful, and they worked with me on changes I wanted to make to optimize it. The accessibility of it for users and the ease with which I can post items and improve it is fantastic. They've been responsive when there are things that I need them to do whether it's a small change or something that's larger. LaunchPad Lab is extremely fair and patient with my needs. I'm a specific detail-oriented person, and they haven't let me down once. I love the site.

What distinguishes LaunchPad Lab from other providers?

I would just say their whole team is really friendly and easy to work with. LaunchPad Lab works with you in a way where you identify designs that you like, and then they pare it down and create choices for you and that's exactly what I wanted. For me, one of the biggest parts was developing the design and getting the feel and look of it right and then the functionality also. If I chose a web developer again, I would choose LaunchPad Lab in a heartbeat and have sent them to other people, too.

Is there anything LaunchPad Lab could have improved or done differently?

Not that I can think of. They were truly great. It's my pleasure to talk about these guys. They're awesome.

**The Review** — Jun 5, 2015

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab’s work had a positive effect on all relevant metrics including time spent on site, sales, and retention and conversion rates. The agency quickly developed an understanding of the business model and its target market. LaunchPad Lab excels when given freedom to be creative.
""Nothing was going to prevent them from making the site awesome.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

We're an aluminum bunk bed and loft bed manufacturer. We built loft beds and bunk beds out of aluminum for adults. Loft beds usually go to larger cities that have tiny living spaces. The bunk beds go to lake houses and resort-style homes. They're great for when you have a lot of adults in a house. We sell all of our beds online.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am the co-founder and president.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What was your goal for working with LaunchPad Lab?

We started with a Shopify template. Our website was not mobile friendly. We need to make the user experience better. I hired them to make a custom theme for us that was mobile friendly for Shopify.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their work.

They designed our website, coded it, and incorporated SEO [search engine optimization]. They ran the whole gamut.

What was your process for selecting LaunchPad Lab?

I hired them because of their user experience and design abilities. They had a good focus on being mobile friendly. I looked at other shops. I was familiar with them, and I looked at cost and quality. I looked at their portfolio on what they've done for marketing sites, and I felt their design was closer to what I was looking for. It was more modern than other firms.

Can you give a sense of the size of the initiative?

It was from $10,000 to $50,000

When was the work completed?

We started in 2012. It's ongoing work. It's live now, but there are some things that we're still working on.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Do you have any statistics or metrics on the project?

I saw an increase in conversion rate for the first month after it was launched. We saw a 15 to 20 percent increase in the first month. That's important for an e-commerce site. We saw a much larger retention of mobile visitors, which was what I was hoping for.

We saw a 20 percent increase in average time spent on the site. All the stats were good. We saw an uptick in sales. People have reached out to me and asked about where we got our site built, and I'm happy to refer them to LaunchPad.

Are you satisfied with their performance?

Their quality was so good, so I'm satisfied.

Is there anything unique or special about LaunchPad Lab that really makes them stand out?

What I was mostly surprised at was how quickly they grasped our business. I was concerned that the design would fall short, and they took on the whole thing as if it was their own company. They understood our target market and built a whole design that centered on that kind of person. Nothing was going to prevent them from making the site awesome. They Photoshopped pictures if they needed to.

What advice would you give to future clients of theirs?

Trust their professional input. I think they really did well with design freedom. Don't try to direct too much of the design. Let them ask the questions and figure out what's best. They work well with an ambiguous starting point. They had a good strategy to figure out the best branding.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

We made a Shopify theme. Since we customized it so much, I think I would have spent more and just had them customize the whole thing instead of using a Shopify site. That was more my fault. I would reevaluate that. I know they had to fight with some things with Shopify because of what we customized.

**Feedback Summary**: The website’s aesthetics improved significantly and received much more positive feedback. LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) was very personable and accommodating throughout the project, making sure to stay within the tight budget. The team will work on site updates in the future.
""They’ve been very accommodating to our needs, especially around budget."  "

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your organization.

I work at an educational software firm.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I'm a content developer and was the project manager when we rebuilt our website with kohactive.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What was your goal for working with kohactive?

Our old website was on WordPress, and it was just taped together and not professional. In terms of growth, we needed more of a custom solution to fit our needs so we could grow and create engaging content. We wanted to move off WordPress and have a custom app built for us.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their work.

Their work was mostly development. We hired another company to do UI/UX [user interface/user experience]. kohactive got the final wireframes from all the designs. They changed the layout a bit during the process, but they were more focused on the development side.

[Editor's Note: The project was completed using Ruby on Rails and Amazon.]

What was your process for selecting kohactive with which to work?

We did a lot of research upfront. We looked at their profile on Folio and we talked with friends in the industry who had Web projects similar to ours. We did a lot of Google searches. They weren’t found through a referral, so it must have been through a Google search or an online portfolio.

I did a lot of the initial conversations and kohactive seemed like they had a good understanding of what our needs would be up front. They seemed excited about the project and the work. It seemed like a good fit.

Is this ongoing work, or is everything completed?

The initial project that we contracted them for is completed, but we still work with them on a monthly retainer. We're talking about doing some changes to the site. We don’t have any plans to stop working with them.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

It was several hundred hours, perhaps around 300 to 400 hours. It was a significant project, and it took a few months of them working with us. They had two people who were devoted to it, and who I would talk with once or twice a week, if not more. Toward the end of the project, they pulled in one or two other part-time people as the need arose.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Are you satisfied with kohactive’s work?

From an aesthetic standpoint, the website is a lot better. The user experience is a lot better, and people seem to enjoy it more. I don’t have growth numbers offhand because I'm on the content side. We've seen growth in traffic since the site launched. We've been pretty happy with it. There were some lingering bugs that took a little longer than we would have liked once we launched, but that was the only issue during the transition period. Overall, we're satisfied.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other agencies?

They are very personable. They’ve been very accommodating to our needs, especially around budget. We didn’t have as much money as we probably should have had to launch this project. They were fairly flexible in that regard. Overall, they’ve been good partners.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

We probably wouldn’t have split design and development between two different shops. We would have stuck with one vendor, and that would have been kohactive. If we had to do it again, we would have stuck with them from the beginning and run all the way through to the project’s conclusion.

In terms of things they could do, because they are growing and taking on more clients, week to week it's not always clear what their availability is. Sometimes, they’ll be out for two or three days, and I won't know that until they get back or until an issue comes up, and we can't reach them. That can be a little stressful, but that only happened once or twice. Frontloading that communication if they're going to be busy is something they do, but not always.

- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 5,001-10,000 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview

**The Review** — Oct 14, 2014

**Feedback Summary**: The final website has received many positive responses from users. LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) has a good, knowledgeable team with fast turn around times. The team was open to project changes regardless of time commitment and cost. They were able to heavily automate the e-commerce platform upon request.
""They’ve gone above and beyond what was necessary to aid anything that we had an issue with." "

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company.

We manufacture appliances for the home. The company is based in South Korea, but with a large U.S. presence. The goal of our company is to help people make their homes healthier by providing cleaner air and water through our devices.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I’m the marketing and communications manager. I handle all marketing and advertising for the company as well as the website, social media, and trade shows.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What was your goal for working with kohactive?

Our old website was dated and was not functioning as a website should in the current market and with the internet being such a strong medium. We contacted kohactive to help us develop a new website that was more user friendly and more based on consumer purchases.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their work.

They did all our development. They set up an e-commerce platform that is specific to us and our website as well as doing design work. They did a lot of backend development for our website.

The initial setup, design, and launching of the website is done, but it is an ongoing process. We’re currently on version 1.1, tightening up loose ends, adding additional content to the website, and ironing out the e-commerce issues.

[Editor's Note: The project was completed using Ruby on Rails, Spree Commerce, and Amazon.]

What was your process for selecting kohactive with which to work?

The president wanted to work with a local Chicago-based company. We went through a lot of ad agencies and Web development companies. We conducted a few different meetings.

We chose kohactive because their website was a good example of the work that they could do. They had a good team that seemed knowledgeable. Their response times and turnaround times with any issues are fairly fast.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

We started developing in late November and the first version was launched in late April or early May. There were several revisions that took place before the current launch. We changed our minds multiple times throughout and they’ve been responsive about these requests. If we ever need their help or need something changed, they’ll hop right on regardless of the cost or the time commitment.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What were the results of the project?

There’s a better response from users than before and the information is presented more clearly. Our content is more accessible.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

We haven’t gotten into this yet. We did use Google Analytics, but with the new website it changed and there’s no side-by-side comparison we can currently do. The e-commerce development is one step away from being completely automated, where we as an office wouldn’t need any involvement whatsoever. This was our choice, but it’s that good.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

They’re more down to earth. They take the time and care about all their clients, and we’re satisfied with the work they’ve done. They’ve gone above and beyond what was necessary to aid anything that we had an issue with.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

No.

**The Review** — Oct 8, 2014

**Feedback Summary**: LaunchPad Lab (formerly Kohactive) has performed very well on all projects assigned to them. The team produces quality work and understands the business needs that drive each project. They could improve in terms of QA and testing.
""Our relationship is expected to last into the long-term future.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company.

We have two companies that work with kohactive, one is an auction software company, and the other is a music software company.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I’m the CEO.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What was your goal for working with kohactive?

They basically have built an application for us for one project, and on the other project, they manage all of our IT [information technology] infrastructure, and do development work.

**SOLUTION**
Please describe the scope of their work.

Software development with a mobile component is the main service.

[Editor's Note: The project also involved UX/UI work and was completed using Ruby on Rails, Amazon, Node.js, and Ember.js.]

What was your process for selecting kohactive with which to work?

We interviewed a variety of firms in a face-to-face setting and like kohactive best.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

This is very hard to answer because there’s been a variety of different projects. One project was a few dozen hours, and then for the other we have an ongoing engagement that is probably 200 hours a month.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What were the results of the project?

The project is ongoing. Our relationship is expected to last into the long-term future.

Are you satisfied with how they’ve performed?

I am very satisfied with their performance overall.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

No.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Work quality, and understanding of the business needs of the project is their strength.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

Yes, that would be testing the application, so QA [quality assurance]. It’s done internally but there isn’t a dedicated QA team. This is the only weakness that comes to mind.

CEO, Event Trading Software Company
- Industry: Financial services

- Client size: 1-10 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview

**The Review** — Mar 12, 2014

**Feedback Summary**: The key descriptor for LaunchPad Lab is “flexibility”. They are proficient with many technologies, and if they aren’t, they’ll learn it. The team has a broad professional background outside of web development, so they bring diverse perspectives to their work. Their creativity was evident throughout.

""They’ve got a perspective that’s much wider than most Web development companies.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please give a brief description of your company and your role.

We make event trading software for the average investor. We take in outside news sources that may trigger events that you can trade off of, such as an economic number or an earnings reports or lawsuit.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
Did you have any specific goals for the project when you started?

When we started, the main goal was just to build a better marketing website. Somewhere along the lines, we’ve changed directions a few times, and they’ve gotten more involved in the business. So, there hasn’t always been one clear-cut goal. They’ve been flexible in meeting our needs.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of the project?

CSS/ SCSS, CMS, blog and video blog, SSL/ DNS, Webserver, Cloud database, FAQ, and various analytical tools. The scope also included teaching our own programmers about Ruby on Rails, and other front end web development skills.

Why did you hire LaunchPad Lab to begin with?

We met at a networking event called BuiltInChicago. I found out that one of the partners had a background in trading, and they also specialize in a language that we were interested in – Ruby on Rails. It’s a very flexible language that allows us to innovate faster.

How long have you been working together?

A year and a half to two years.

Can you give us a sense of the size of the initiative, either in a cost range or personnel work hour figure?

Usually, we’ll schedule one to two programmers to spend several weeks on a project. So, we stick to an hourly rate and give a general guideline for the project. We leave room for that timeframe to grow if we change our needs along the way, which we often do.

Total man hours [so far] would be probably more than 1,000.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Are there any metrics or feedback that you can share that indicates the effectiveness of their work?

No. I don’t have any specific metrics.

How would you describe their performance?

Versatile. If I tell them I have a software need, even if they don’t have prior experience doing that specific thing, they can go out and learn how to do that very quickly.

Is there anything else unique or special about them compared to other vendors or companies that you may have worked with in the past?

Yes, their backgrounds. The three first founders – one was a lawyer, one was an engineer, one was a trader. They’ve got a perspective that’s much wider than most Web development companies. They understand my perspective better because of that, and it takes less time to explain my goals and needs to them.

Looking back on the work that they’ve done so far, is there any area that you think they could improve on or that you would do differently?

No.

If you have to sum up your experience with them briefly, how might you describe it?

Professional and creative.

Founder, LandID

- Client size: 1-10 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Mar 10, 2014

**Feedback Summary**: Users recognize that the app offers something different from other social media platforms. Although LaunchPad didn’t have much experience developing social functions like sharing and commenting, they were honest and hard-working. They considered the business model, not just the functionality.

""I really appreciated their honesty and their discipline around deadlines and responsibilities.""

**BACKGROUND**
Could you give a bit of background on your company and your role?

I am the founder of a mobile app called LandID. In that capacity, I was looking for a local Chicago developer to work with me.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
When you approached LaunchPad Lab, what in particular were you trying to do?

I was trying to take the idea from my head and put it into a mobile app. I didn’t know at that time whether that would be an iPhone app or an Android app. I would describe myself as very tech enabled, but pretty ignorant with respect to app development at that time. I was looking for someone to help me bring it to life.

Did you have any specific business goals for the project or metrics that you were trying to achieve?

There was never a desire to monetize the app, which sounds a little strange. That would have been fine if it happened, but it was more something that I felt very strongly about that I wanted to see created. I was the only investor in it, so I wasn’t taking outside money. The goal was really to bring something to life that I think a market has a need for in the social media space. I had goals about subscriber growth and all of those things. But the ultimate goal was to develop a high-quality app that people would enjoy.

**SOLUTION**
Can you tell me about the scope of the project? What did it include?

There was nothing at the start but an idea. The total development time for the launch of the first version was probably four months. It started with a good month of light board work, where we sat down and talked about how the frames would work and how best to structure it, and what to include, what not to include, so a lot of good conceptual work before we ever put a hand to coding.

The second phase was that we rolled into using Flinto and other simulation pieces of software, so that before we began the actual coding, we could see it in a visual form in a demo.

When we were comfortable with that, we rolled into phase three, the coding. It went pretty quickly after all that conceptual work. So, four months from zero to version one in the iStore.

Did you also launch additional versions of this product?

We launched a second version and maybe a third, just within the following two months. But, they were rather minor bug fixes. We had worked out a number of the bugs before the first launch because we had allowed friends and family to use the app before it was ever in the iStore. [The second version] wasn’t materially different.

How long have you worked with them?

I continue to work with them. At this point, it’s probably been 10 months, because there was probably a couple of months’ process of getting to know them before we ever launched. I continue to have a relationship with them, advising on the next step for the app. I’ve just come to like them a lot. I bounce ideas off them, and they bounce ideas off me.

One of the things that really set them apart to me was that they’re technology guys, but they actually come out of the real-world business environment. They come out of the securities trading environment, and have also clearly worked on some pretty demanding applications in the past. I like that because they’re very responsive.

Why did you decide to use the iPhone platform?

We perceive the iStore to be the benchmark of app loyalty. While there has certainly been substantial growth in non-Apple platforms, [such as] Android, the App Store and the loyalty of iPhone users is still the hallmark of where to start. Then, to the extent that it thrives there, we would bring it into Android.

When you selected LaunchPad Lab to work with, were there other candidates that you were considering? Why did you choose to work with them?

I had [to consider whether] to get the guy in his basement or hire a real development firm. I quickly went to a real firm because if you hired a guy in his basement, and he’s not able to get it all the way there or can’t support you post launch, and you bring it to a real developer at that time, then they’re not going to tweak what he did. They’re going to rebuild it from scratch. I didn’t want to take that risk.

In the real developer space, I talked with other firms. There are lots of people that are capable. At the end of the day, I wanted someone local. I talked to people who had more mobile app experience than LaunchPad, but I really liked [LaunchPad’s] approach, and their ability to think about the business model, not just the app. I liked the fact that they came out of the real world, and I perceived that they would be very responsive. That’s turned out to be absolutely correct.

I’m very pleased with their work, very pleased with the app, just enjoy working with the guys, and wouldn’t have made a different decision.

Can you give us a sense of the size of this initiative either in dollar terms or personnel work hours estimate?

Between the developer, a local PR firm, and some legal work, I’d probably spent somewhere in the range of $70,000 or $80,000 on the app, all my own funding. The developer piece was probably 80 percent of that, I would say.

When was the initial project completed?

We launched it in the iStore in the second week of November of last year [2013].

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What were the results of the project? Are there any metrics or qualitative feedback you can share?

I’ve had some great press. The biggest thing to me is I probably have 1,500 users at the moment, three or four months in. I have a lot of content creation on this app. Again, given that my goal was never to monetize it, the cool thing for me is just seeing how people use it. I’ve seen hundreds of examples of people using this app to document important moments in their life in a way that I think social media cries out for more of today. I’ve been really pleased with the growth, and with watching the content from behind the scenes.

How would you describe LaunchPad Lab’s performance? Was there anything unique or special about them compared to other companies with which you may have worked?

I can’t really say in the development space because it’s not as though I have done this before. But, they have a pretty good discipline about not starting the coding until we’re absolutely sure exactly what we’re doing, so a very client-focused approach to being efficient with resources and time. Even in the simulation software, making sure that we get through a whiteboard discussion of what everything’s going to look like beforehand, so a very businesslike approach to technology.

The other thing is every two weeks, there’s a very rigid structure where it’s here’s what we’re going to do, then we go do it, then we come back to show you what we did, and talk about what we’re going to do the next two weeks. So, it’s a very businesslike approach to accountability and also holding me accountable, the fact that they can only do things as they receive feedback from me on a real-time basis.

I just really appreciated their honesty and their discipline around deadlines and responsibilities. Again, that was one of the primary things that I hoped to get from them given their backgrounds, and that proved to be true.

Looking back on the project, is there any area that you think that they could improve on or that you would do differently?

[At the time], they were still a relatively small developer, and while they were growing, they were outsourcing. In my instance, they outsourced some of the visual design features. I know that now they’ve insourced that. Actually, I was quite pleased with their outsourced design partner. But I think the more that you use outside, the more legal risk of other people taking a client’s idea or sharing it with other people. That was not my experience, but I’m glad to see that they’re insourcing more of their capabilities as they grow.

The only other thing, and I knew this going in, they hadn’t done a lot of work in the social media space in particular. They hadn’t developed a lot of apps that create new mechanisms for people to follow and share and like what’s going on. I could tell, in the process, they were learning some of that along with me. But, again, I knew that going in, and it was not an impediment. In fact, I think we were able to do some things that were maybe outside the box because they came at it from a different lens.

### How Bullhorn’s AI-Enhanced Hub Drives Efficiency
The Challenge
Rapid expansion led to the inheritance of multiple legacy systems, each with separate authentication processes, making it difficult to connect customers with their account and product information. The Approach
Bullhorn turned to LaunchPad Lab for support. To map out plans for the new, unified system, the team used a structured approach involving research, technical planning, tech stack selection, testing, launch, and maintenance. The new product would be built using Salesforce Experience Cloud, existing data would be migrated to the new system, which would offer seamless SSO authentication, personalization, and AI-agent support via Agentforce.

LaunchPad Lab’s team improved the UX of the map and portals and gave them a fresh look and feel that was consistent throughout the full experience. ### Liquideed
The Kickoff
We leveraged previous design work provided by the client to initiate a solid starting point. We extensively workshopped interactions between buyers and sellers to fully understand the requirements and ideal flow for all potential users. We integrated existing UI mockups with our own design concepts to efficiently create a fluid user experience.
Reason Behind the Design
We inherited some design mockups from Liquideed that served as the initial foundation. Together we walked through the flow and made improvements to the user experience and user interface along the way. With such a complex application, one of the major challenges we had to overcome was making sure users understood what phase in the process they were in and what they should expect in the upcoming phases. This was especially important when it came to the multi-round negotiation process, and to solve this we designed a progress bar that listed out each phases, showed the current status, and explained what action (if any) was required of user. Also since the Liquideed’s process is time-sensitive we translated all the desktop mockups we received into mobile and tablet friendly views to ensure that users could quickly view and make offers/counteroffers on a property from any device. In regard to the color palette, the blues references the idea of water or “liquid” from the company’s name and light greys and whites are used to give the application a light, friendly feeling.
What’s Next?
We continue to work with Liquideed to support the application and integrate new features. We work closely with the Liquideed team to make sure the client onboarding process runs smoothly. In addition, since launch, we enhanced the negotiation flow and improved accessibility for older users.

### Catharsis Productions
The Challenge
Catharsis Productions’ mission is to create a world without violence. By focusing on artistically innovative and research supported programming, they are successfully educating audiences on how to reduce interpersonal violence. Currently, the three main customer groups that Catharsis serves are Military, Government, and Colleges. Catharsis wanted a new website geared toward helping them grow their business by attracting new clients as well as reinforcing their offerings to current clients.
The Outcome
By focusing on Catharsis’ mission to engage their audiences with funny, relatable, credible, and innovative programs, we were able to design and build a website that reflects that message. The style is both professional and modern, yet at the same time unique and edgy—just like their programs. We reorganized the site architecture to make it easier for users to navigate and find the information that was relevant to their needs. We established a content hierarchy for each program that would include a brief description, media such as videos and images, features or topics covered in the program, key takeaways, testimonials, and other programs that pair well with each other. There are also several areas throughout the site where Catharsis can share various resources and blog about current events which not only reinforces their credibility, but also encourages their users to return to the site.

### Prevent Blindness
The Kickoff
We met with the foundation’s team to discuss their goals for both the website and content management system so that it would appeal to both their national office, affiliates, and most importantly visitors to site.
They came prepared to discuss the areas within the site they wanted to improve from security to site architecture to design. They also showed us a handful of sites that they liked either in terms of navigation or visual design. Our next step was to do some additional research, map out the existing site’s architecture (noting any areas that could be improved), and create wireframes based on our research as well as the notes from the kickoff meeting.
The Outcome
We started by organizing the site architecture and navigation, where worked closely with the Prevent Blindness team to simplify and re-categorize the content to make it easier for users to find the content they’re looking for. With this foundation in place, we designed several templates tailored for specific types of content. The templates created some visual variety and hierarchy. As for the design, we brought the pages to life with the use of color and imagery. The content management system we built provides admin users with all templates and plenty of options for customizability.

### Building a multi-day event for Groupon
Groupon is an ecommerce company that offers a variety of products and services. When they embarked on creating a three-day adventure in Chicago that included activities, concerts, and city-tours, they needed a trusted partner to help build their product.
The software required user registration, activity selection, and integration with the main Groupon site. One of the biggest challenges was the multiple different types of tracks that a user could take during the weekend.
