BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the marketing manager for R&O Construction in the Las Vegas regional office, one of our satellite offices. We focus on commercial construction, which includes large retail centers, multifamily complexes, industrial buildings, and multiple other types of construction.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Key Lime Photography & Video?

When we finish a project, we like to make a historical archive of the completed project, including images. We use it to showcase our construction work and our prowess and quality in different construction techniques, as well as a general marketing tool. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provide photography of our finished projects, as well as drone work and b-roll video capture for us. We’re still in the process of the video portion. They handle everything from the capture to the editing with our input so it meets our vision. 

What is the team composition?

Joey (Photographer) is my main point of contact. 

How did you come to work with Key Lime Photography & Video?

I was looking for a way to expand our portfolio; we keep a number of photographers in our Rolodex for different projects, but a few have closed or retired. I was looking for a local shop that understood Las Vegas since it’s a very unique market. I wanted them to understand the community and how construction impacts the community. 

After interviewing at least half a dozen organizations, Joey seemed like he understood what we needed and, frankly, understood the perils of working with the construction team.

How much have you invested with them?

Per shoot, we spend around $1,000, which is a very good price in this location for that level of quality. In the last year, we’ve probably spent between $6,000–$8,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since around March 2019 and our relationship is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They have become my primary resource for shooting my construction projects. They’ve met every metric I’ve set for them thus far and exceed my expectations. For marketing, it’s not easy to determine the return on our images. However, since starting with Joey, I’ve seen an uptick in clients reaching out to us and wanting to license those images, which is always a good sign. At least three clients reached out after seeing the images we’ve posted and wanting to get them for their portfolios. 

How did Key Lime Photography & Video perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management aspect has been where Joey’s team is key for me. In construction, things can be very fluid — there can be delays and things need to be moved around. There are also numerous safety concerns before getting people on our site, which can be very trying for creative types because it breaks the schedule. However, Joey always understands that aspect of construction and is flexible. He always meets the absolute crazy timelines that construction requires. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their level of creativity is the best part about working with them. We worked with them on an industrial building, which was a very difficult place to shoot. I was absolutely astounded by how Joey pulled it off — I won’t pretend to know how he did it. The end product is always beyond my expectations and shows me I made the right choice bringing them on. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I cannot think of anything for them to improve on. They’ve done everything I’ve asked them to, at this point. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure you’re hands-on. Any photographer will find good angles, but it’s up to the client to let them know what’s most important to the organization and their marketing. I don’t expect my photographers to understand why tilt-up construction is important, so it’s paramount for the client to make sure the photographer understands the company’s vision.
