Aside from their technical excellence and high throughput, I appreciate that there's an initial period of shadowing when someone is hired. For us this period didn't last long, but we were glad to know ivelum was so invested in getting their staff off to a good start.

Working with software vendors, I've learned that many treat it as pretty transactional — you hand over the requirements and the payment, and they hand back the work. Not much beyond that. Ivelum has been different. Their engineers do genuinely strong work, but what really sets them apart is that they actually care, about the project, about where we're trying to go, about the business itself, not just the ticket in front of them.

One area for improvement would be broadening their backend technology coverage beyond Python.

We had a hard deadline in December when we had to demonstrate at least a system preview. The demonstration went well, and universities responded mostly positively although there were some concerns about security (after all, this is to promote cybersecurity education).

After that, ivelum has been working on the remaining items and are now close to launching it into production

They are proactive, suggesting ideas and brainstorming together with us - nice that they suggest ways to keep track (e.g. Trello) of tasks, and encourage prioritisation of features that can be updated / added on.

Mostly on time, great especially considering that many other dev teams we contacted almost refused services considering our timelines.

Continuous development - seemed to be unique / rare amongst dev teems sampled.  This was a major reason why we chose ivelum in the first place.

The team has done an impressive job in building the Reach platform and facilitating cybersecurity matchmaking for our needs. I really admire the ability to conduct business in a second language—it’s impressive and not an easy skill! One area for potential improvement could be streamlining communication, particularly for non-native English speakers, to ensure smoother interactions. Perhaps additional language support or clearer guidance in key areas could help bridge any gaps. Overall, though, the effort and execution have been great!

 The MVP launch is a major milestone, and we are on track for launch this month and right under budget.

Features were delivered on time each monthly Sprint and according to the roadmap and priorities set by our agency Product team. Ivelum team members were HIGHLY responsive and amiable, always willing to go the extra mile and seek to understand the goals of the task and project as a whole to aid in their deliveries. The Ivelum team worked very well with all members of our team, keeping positive and professional attitudes even under project stress, e.g. when roadmap priorities shifted suddenly, a feature was especially difficult to build, etc.

Work was basically always delivered on time, unless we needed to change scope or some other project parameter. They responded to our needs quickly and per whatever level of priority or urgency that we communicated. We approached Ivelum in search of engineering talent that we could embed with the rest of our America-based team to accelerate the development of our core platform. They needed to get up to speed quickly on the nuances of the publishing world, including best practices for deploying and managing CMS backends, analytics, advertising, affiliate monetization, privacy compliance, data management, and a broad swath of the needs of an entire industry while simultaneously distilling the expertise into best in class tools lead by our own Product Managers. They were tasked to implement a variety of web based apps on top of a new core platform, with integrations with dozens of third parties, and documentation and support for large scale customers.

Projects were all seen through to completion. Ivelum expertise and proactive feedback was key to successful delivery. Products have all been high quality, and support responsiveness to maintain them has been very fast (above reach goals).

Ivelum has provided not only the highly skilled engineers that we needed to get the company off the ground, but they brought best practices, excellent management tools and practices, and an enthusiasm for our business. They worked with our own product and project managers, but also self-organized internally. 

Delivery has always been punctual - both due to their own buy-in to our business needs and also their ability to deliver honest, clear updates throughout the execution. Everyone on the team is always responsive, and the time zone differences have been an asset for the volume of work produced.

No. Our work with them has been a learning experience for us as well, since I have never trusted this much of the core work of a startup to an external team before, and our own biggest learning has been how to improve the clarity of our own communications and to lean into treating them as a unified part of our own company.
